Thursday Thoughts – Summer Mode

Summer mode continues in full effect around these parts. I’m clearly not adhering to any set posting schedule, and right now, I’m ok with that. So as I sit here kicking back on my deck, I’m sharing a few more Thursday Thoughts.

I’m happy to say that our family unit is now back in tact – my oldest is home from camp and so far peace reigns among the brothers ๐Ÿ˜‰

Time away is good for the soul…especially when there’s some beach time involved. Wish we could have stayed longer!

We came home just in time for another bout of heat and humidity. I’m trying hard not to whine about it… so I’ll just say, I’m done!

I love to read, but am surprised to say that this is the first summer that I’ve not been plowing through books. Time to get back to my books. I’ve been debating Harper Lee’s new book, Go Set A Watchmen…but I loved To Kill A Mockingbird and don’t know if I’m ready to have my memory of those characters changed.

So, any good book suggestions? Have you been able to get away this summer?

  1. I have a book review post tomorrow, but it’s not a rave review. I just finished Judy Blume’s “In The Unlikely Event” last night, and am still digesting it. Maybe Paper Town (now a movie) if you like the YA genre – it’s a sweet story.

  3. Yay for sibs getting along! My kids are back to school and oddly we had storms (think tornadoes, not near us thankfully) and a cold snap. It’s so weird to go from 90 and humid to 60 and not. But I’ll take it. Almost picked up Harper Lee’s new one then figured I reread Mockingbird first.

    • I was thinking about re-reading Mockingbird too – it’s been ages since I read it. Can’t believe your kids are back in school already – good thing it’s cool off for you all.

  4. Have you read any of Liane Moriarity’s books? I really enjoyed The Husband’s Secret and Big Little Lies by her.

  7. We’ve been gone more than we’ve been home so far this summer, but we are done traveling now.

I’ve been reading mind candy this summer. I really need to get back to reading something with a bit more substance.

  8. I have a hard time finding time to read these days!! I used to love reading, but I can’t seem to fit in in!! Yey for blogging breaks ๐Ÿ™‚ That’s what summer is for! We took a 2 week vacation to NH back in June but that’s about it. Here’s hoping peace remains between the brothers ๐Ÿ˜‰

    • I know what you mean – I need to make time for a good book or two. And I’m happy to say peace still reigns among the brothers – fingers crossed it stays that way!

  9. We actually haven’t been able to get away. My oldest works, and we aren’t comfortable leaving him home alone. Sadly.

  10. Haven’t really “gotten away” this summer and let me tell you – I am starting to CRAVE “get away” time. Sure I went to Taiwan, which was amazing – but it was exhausting and for work! A staycation is what I need!

  11. I bought Go Set A Watchmen while I was on vacation, but did not get to read it. Will probably be awhile before I get to open it ๐Ÿ™‚

    • I just bought To Kill A Mocking Bird this weekend – my son will be reading it for English class so I picked up an extra copy when we were buying his school books. Then hopefully I’ll read Go Set A Watchmen next.
