Catching Up Over June Coffee

It’s the first Friday of the month which means for this week’s Fit Five Friday, I’m linking up with Coco and Deborah for the Ultimate Coffee Date. So grab your fave beverage and let’s catch up!

Catching Up Over June Coffee

Over coffee, I’d start by asking how your weather’s been? Would you believe that we’ve had 11 straight Saturdays of rain – I kid you not! I’m really not sure what Mother N has against Saturdays but it would be nice to finally have a complete weekend of sunshine. Sadly the forecast for tomorrow looks doubtful – hello Saturday #12 🙁

Over coffee, I would tell you how much I have been enjoying being back in my garden. You see last year between the renovation and my angry hip, I wasn’t able to accomplish much and trust me as the winter thawed it really showed! Its been a lot of work but I’ve been happy to be back at it.

I love Peony season!

Over coffee, I would tell you that one of my favorite Mother’s Day gifts this year was a beautiful fountain pen. I’m a die-hard planner/journal girlie and so I love a good quality pen. My boys picked out a great one, don’t you think?!

What would you tell me over coffee?

May Coffee Chat

Hello May!

I love the feeling of having a fresh new month laid out before us, don’t you? It’s always a great way to kick off the month with a little coffee chat with friends – so for this week’s Fit Five Friday, I’m linking up with Coco and Deborah for the Ultimate Coffee Date. Grab a mug of your fave beverage, and let’s chat.

May Coffee Chat

Over coffee, I’d tell you that, in typical May-hem fashion, there’s not a lot of white space on the calendar this month, and I’m not mad about it. I have booked lots of time with friends for lunch, dinner, cocktails, etc. With my hip surgery just over 2 months in the rearview mirror, I’ve been itching to get out and about more to catch up with friends!

And, speaking of surgery recovery, over coffee, I would happily tell you that I’ll be sprung from PT next Tuesday! I’ve spent the last couple of sessions working on single leg strength work with increasing weight and my “bionic” hip has been tolerating the load nicely. My physio is helping me to create a plan to continue on my own, but as she’s told me, “you have no limitations…time to just go live your life!” – Alleluia!

Over coffee, I would tell you that our new puppy, Ryker, has been with us a month now and is settling in nicely. My gosh I had forgotten just how much frenetic energy a puppy brings – he’s turned our household upside down, but in the best possible way! And I’m super glad our dog Kai has taken to the role of big brother 🙂

Over coffee, I would share that while I’ve been enjoying my “semi-retirement,” I am starting to think about what’s next. Do I look for a new job? Hang out my shingle and consult? Stay in the non-profit sector? Could I continue to enjoy retirement through the summer and dive back in the fall? Lots of questions, but no answers at this point.

So tell me, any big plans for May?

April Coffee Catch Up

It’s time for another edition of Fit Five Friday, and since it is the first Friday of the month I’m linking up with Deborah and Coco for the Ultimate Coffee Date. So let’s chat a bit. (This post contains an affiliate link).

April Coffee Catch Up

Over coffee, I would first tell you that I hit a big milestone this week – I’m now 6 weeks post surgery! I’ve had this date circled as 6 week would mark when my surgeon said I’d have no restrictions. Now, I still am not cleared to run just yet, but I can take on more strength training and more walking miles…all of which will get me back there.

Over coffee, I would tell you that tomorrow I’ll be picking up a new walking buddy – a puppy! My hubs and I have been wanting to get a second dog and have been debating when…well then this little face appeared in my feed from one of the rescue groups I follow and we had our answer! He’s a German Shepard/Great Prynees mix and I can’t wait to meet him and add him to our family (Fingers crossed our current Shepard feels the same way!).

Over coffee, I would share that one of my goals for this year is to make more time for reading and so far so good. One of my latest reads was The First Lie Wins — oh so good! It’s face-paced thriller that will keep you guessing right to the end. If you haven’t read it, I’d encourage you to add it to your list.

OK, your turn, what would you tell me over coffee?

Coffee Catch-up – March ’25

It’s the first Friday of the month so for this week’s Fit Five Friday, I’m linking up with Deborah and Coco for the Ultimate Coffee Date. Grab a mug of your fave hot beverage and let’s chat a bit.

Coffee Catch-up – March ’25

Over coffee, I would start by telling you that my recovery continues to be on track. I was discharged from in-home PT yesterday, have been cleared to drive, and look forward to starting outpatient PT in about a week.

Over coffee, I would ask if you’ve streamed anything good lately? I’m half way through Laid, a dark comedy on Peacock that’s quite funny and a nice change of pace from the typical TV comedy.

Over coffee, I would tell you that I have looking forward to tackling some new house projects over the next couple of months. While we had hoped to start working on the home gym in January, things got hella busy for my hubs at work so we put a pin in that project temporarily. But now that things have quieted down a bit, and I’m past my surgery, we’re ready to tackle it! Additionally, we’ll be gathering landscaping estimates (our yard is a disaster following the remodel) and I’m planning to do a refresh on our garden. Of course, in New England it’s anybody’s guess when Spring will arrive!

What would you tell me over coffee? Any signs of Spring where you are?

Catching Up Over February Coffee

There may only be 28 days in February but it is shaping up to be a busy month for me! For this week’s Fit Five Friday I’m linking up with Coco and Deborah for the Ultimate Coffee Date. So grab a mug and let’s catch up!

Catching Up Over February Coffee

Over coffee, I would tell you that I’m scheduled for hip replacement surgery in a couple of weeks! If you’ve been around here for a bit then you know I have tried all the things to help with my right hip issue, but nothing has worked and the arthritis has significantly worsened. My ortho connected me with a great surgeon who’s supportive of the idea of me eventually returning to running – first and foremost I’m just looking forward to much more pain-free mobility!

Over coffee, I would also share my other big news – I’m wrapping up my job and taking a much needed break! I can’t get into all of the details, suffice it to say that the nonprofit I was working for ran into some funding difficulties and the decision was made that it would merge with a bigger affiliate. I did start the job search process and had two very promising opportunities, but I quickly came to the conclusion that what I really wanted was some much needed time off!  I’m very fortunate to have this kind of flexibility and I’m sure that I won’t be idle for too long…but for now, I’m semi-retired 🙂

OK, your turn – what would you tell me over coffee?

Coffee Catch Up for the New Year

Happy 2025 – I hope you all had a relaxing and enjoyable holiday season!

I’m kicking off the first Fit Five Friday of 2025 by linking up with Coco and Deborah for the Ultimate Coffee Date. So grab a mug and let’s chat.

Coffee Catch Up for the New Year

Over coffee, I would tell you that while I was missing my mom terribly, I did mange to enjoy the holidays more than I expected. There were lazy days, big meals and lots of family time. Maybe there’s something to be said for letting go of expectations and just taking the days as they come.

Over coffee, I would tell you that I’m looking forward to us setting up our home gym this month. As we wrapped up the renovation last year, one outstanding item was that we needed steps to connect the old basement to the new section that will house the gym. Well now that the steps are in place, and things are quieting down post-holidays it’s the perfect time to turn our attention to this project.

Over coffee, I would tell you that I’m excited to be back with Jenn, Darlene, Renee and Zenaida for another year of the Fit Five Friday link up! We’ve got some fun topics lined up in addition to joining in for Coffee and Runfessions. Of course, you’re always welcome to write about any fitness/wellness topic you’d like. We hope you’ll join us!

What would you tell me over coffee?

Last Coffee Catch Up for 2024

Now that we’ve hit December, it will feel like a mad sprint to the end of the year! I’m trying to do my best to slow down, to make time to relax and to connect with family and friends.  In fact I have lunch plans with a friend later, but first, for this week’s Fit Five Friday, I’m connectingwith Coco, Deborah, and you for the last Ultimate Coffee Date of the year! So grab a mug and let’s chat.

Last Coffee Catch Up for 2024

Over coffee, I would tell you that I’m looking forward to getting our Christmas tree this afternoon. After being under construction last year at this time, I’m really looking forward to decorating this weekend!

Over coffee, I would tell you that I’m once again participating in the #3for31 Challenge. This is one of my favorite challenges hosted by Peloton instructor Robin. The goal is to run or walk 3 miles or move 30 minutes daily in December. I like having this little extra nudge to make sure that I don’t slack off due to holiday stress and end-of-year overwhelm!

I’ll be heading out later this morning for today’s installment!

Over coffee, I would tell you that just as my husband and I were talking about eliminating our Peacock subscription – we got it for the extra Olympics coverage – we’re now hooked on the new series The Day of the Jackal. It’s a great thriller starring Eddie Redmayne and Lashana Lynch and feels more like a movie vs. a TV series. I guess we won’t be purging Peacock any time soon.

Are you streaming anything good lately? If you celebrate, have you started your Christmas decorating?

Returning for November Coffee

It’s been quiet here on the blog while I took a much needed break. Now, as we usher in a new month, it’s a good time for a little coffee catch-up, so I’m linking up with Coco and Deborah for the Ultimate Coffee Date. And, of course, it’s Friday so that means another Fit Five Friday link-up! So grab a mug of your fave beverage and let’s chat.

Returning for November Coffee

Over coffee,  I would tell you how overwhelmed and grateful I am for all of the cards, text messages, DMs, and notes I have received since the passing of my mom. All of it has bouyed my heart during a difficult time.

Over coffee,  I would tell you that it’s been almost 6 weeks since my PRP injection and I’m still waiting for the angels to sing. Some days feel better than others but overall progress feels slow. I’m seeing my ortho on Monday and hoping he sees my progress differently.

Over coffee back in August, I shared that I wanted to learn a language. At the time I was debating between French and Spanish and selected French.  While I diligently put in the time on the Babel app daily, things kinda petered out a few weeks later and then life happened. Well, I’m happy to say that I’m back at it, but I’ve switched to Spanish! I am finding more practical uses for it and it helps to have others to practice with. We’re talking about a trip to Barcelona next year, so there’s some additional motivation!

Over coffee, I would tell you that I’m starting another gratitude challenge on Instagram. I did one a couple of years ago, and with the combination of life events, work stress, election fatigue, etc., I’m feeling the need to focus on the positive! So for the month of November, I’ll post daily either in my IG feed or story something I’m thankful for that day using #FocusingonGratitude. Join me!

What would you tell me over coffee?

September Coffee Catch Up

Happy Friday! Let’s kick the weekend off with a little coffee catch-up. For this week’s Fit Five Friday, I’m joining Coco and Deborah for the Ultimate Coffee Date. Grab a mug and let’s chat!

September Coffee Catch Up

Over coffee, I would tell you that it is crazy to me that my son’s already been on campus for two weeks. College drop-off went off without a hitch and he sounds like he’s settling in nicely. Of course I miss him big-time, but I take his lack of calling as a good sign. And, Parents’ Weekend is at the end of the month so I’ll get to hug him again soon enough!

Over coffee, I would tell you that I’m scheduled for a PRP injection later this month. In case you don’t know, Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injections use a patient’s own blood to help heal injuries and improve tissue function. My sports ortho had actually suggested PRP a few months ago, but I was initially not excited by the long recovery time, not to mention insurance won’t pay for it. Now, I wish I had just bitten the bullet because I’d be that much further along but it is what it is and I’m just happy it’s an option available to me.

What would you tell me over coffee? If you know any PRP success stories please share!

August Coffee Catch Up

Hello August – Can you believe we’re at the start of a new month already?!

And, since it’s the first Friday of the month, for this week’s Fit Five Friday, I’m joining Coco and Deborah for the Ultimate Coffee Date. Grab a mug – or perhaps an iced coffee, and let’s chat!

August Coffee Catch Up

Over coffee, I would tell you that I’ll be enjoying 4-day work weeks for the rest of the summer. My office closes every other Friday for “Summer Fridays” so I figured why not throw in some of my vacation days to even out the weeks. Work continues to be off the chain so why not lean into some long weekends, right?

Over coffee, I would ask you if you’ve been watching the Olympics? I have been all in  – I have especially loved watching the women’s and men’s gymnastics teams, the swim events, and women’s rugby. So many great moments and I’m looking forward to the track events to come!

Over coffee, I would tell you that I want to learn a language. I have been thinking about this for a while but have been putting it off. I recently received an email promoting Babbel’s birthday sale and am taking it as a sign to dive in! Now the debate is whether to go with Spanish or French. I took Spanish in high school and have retained some over the years, while I only took a semester of French in college. Both will work for future vacation plans…decisions, decisions.

Over coffee, I would tell you that we are 3 weeks away from moving my youngest into his dorm. I’m not ready! Deep breaths…

What would you tell me over coffee? Do you have a favorite moment from the Olympics?
