Well, September blew in and out quickly didn’t it?! Before I put this month in the rearview mirror, for this week’s Fit Five Friday, I’m joining Marcia to share some Runfessions.
September ’25 Runfessions
After spending a couple of months clearing out and prepping my mom’s condo for sale, I runfess that I’m now on a massive decluttering mission at my house. Seriously, my mom threw nothing out – like I found my elementary school report card among other things…it was just so much! While some times a fun stroll down memory lane, the whole process of clearing her house has me wanting to take a fresh look at what’s filling up the drawers and closets in my house.
I also runfess that I am also surprised, even after decluttering and donating items prior to our remodel, that a year later there’s still stuff to consider parting with. Makes me wonder if decluttering is ever “done.”
What say you – are you pretty good at keeping things to a minimum or do you feel like there’s always something to declutter?

Ah yes Michelle! I had the same experience when I had to clean out my parent’s home. There was SO MUCH STUFF, and most of it ended up in the trash (or donated, of course). You could kind of say I was scared straight after that. My house still has too much stuff, but I’m much more ruthless about getting rid of things. I picture my own kids going through it all someday and having to throw it away.
Oh I absolutely feel that! I’m determined to not have my kids have to sort through so much.
My mom’s house is the same way. It’s going to be a lot, for sure. I do think decluttering is an ongoing process. I’ve gotten much better, but I’m nowhere near where I want to be.
I feel like I’ve gotten better as well though it continues to boggle my mind how quickly and easily stuff can accumulate.
I think it’s so easy to let things build up. I have plenty of things that I’ve just put off to the side and when I go on a purge I’m just shocked at what’s there. I also think older generations held on to more. I have so many friends who just have NOTHING (on purpose) and it’s so interesting to me the difference.
I find the difference so interesting as well – and I agree that I think there’s a generational component to it as well.
You made me laugh. Every time I throw things away, there seems to be just as much left…
It’s such an overwhelming job!! Good luck!
My hubby throws nothing away!!!!!!!!!!
I swear sometimes I feel like the clutter fairies are adding more things when I’m not looking LOL
I didn’t have to declutter anything of my dad’s BUT he left me the boxes and boxes of his mom’s stuff to declutter!! in the end it was probably a good thing; I powered through it because I had to and so I didn’t linger too long on things. I did keep some stuff that I found interesting and select photos were kept. but she also kept E V E R Y T H I N G. good lord. I have been decluttering at home as well, but no… I don’t think we are ever done. it feels good to have a cleaner tidier space though, even if the next room over has a bunch of unnecessary crap in it.
Yes – exactly! I take the wins of having some spaces that are cleared and sometimes just have to close the door on those other rooms 😉
After my big declutter (by default of moving) last year, I am MUCH mire mindful of all of my purchases! It’s much easier maintaining a cluttered house than creating one , LOL!
Ha so true!
I hear you on the decluttering. I’ve been working on cleaning out my mom’s house and it makes me very aware of how much stuff we have in our own house.
It is an eye-opening process, for sure.
