June Coffee Chat

It’s the first Friday of the month which means for this week’s Fit Five Friday, I’m linking up with Coco and Deborah for the Ultimate Coffee Date. So grab your fave beverage and let’s catch up! (This post contains affiliate links).

June Coffee Chat

Over coffee, I’d start by telling you how much fun I had volunteering at the Girls on the Run 5K Celebration! The weather was terrible – cold, windy, and oh so much rain, but it did not dampen the girls’ enthusiasm. I worked as a course marshall and got to see up close how determined they all were – really such a great event! I’m looking forward to hopefully working with the organization more in the future.

Over coffee, I would tell you that this month I’m taking in the #StreakingwiththeCoolKids Challenge. The goal is to either run or walk 1 mile every day in June. I wanted to log more miles walking on my non-run days, so this challenge fits the bill nicely!

Over coffee, I would ask you what you’re currently reading? I recently finished Theo of Golden and Sara Hall’s memoir For the Love of the Grind. The pacing of Theo was uneven and sometimes plodding, and I wasn’t a big fan of the book’s heavy-handed messaging.  I did enjoy learning more about Sara Hall’s story and admired her ability to come back time and again from injury to have such a long career. While I have a couple of other memoirs on my TBR list, I prefer to not read them back-to-back – so next up? Anatomy of an Alibi.

What would you tell me over coffee? Any big plans for June?

  1. Streaking with the Cool Kids sounds like a great way to keep yourself moving on your non-running days.

I haven’t read For the Love of the Grind, but I’m sure I’d love it. I do love a good running memoir!

  2. I like that streak challenge. I’m trying to walk more on the days I don’t run. Maybe I will be a belated streaker this month!
Sarah’s book sounds good! I haven’t read a running memoir in a while. And, I’ve heard of Anatomy of an Alibi- you’ll have to report back on that one.

  3. Deborah Brooks says

Sounds like an interesting book! I have a long summer reading list already. I”m currently in “yesteryear” it’s very intriguing-can’t wait to see how it turns out. I have been trying to keep my steps up I am all for a streak. Happy June

    • Oh I need to check out that book! I read First Lie Wins and couldn’t put it down! I just read Culpability and it was really interesting- family drama combined with AI,etc. I’m all for summer reading! And running! I like the streak challenge!

  4. Volunteering with GoTR is always the best!

I liked the idea of Theo of Golden but the religious messaging was a bit much for me. Agree – heavy handed. I read some fun romances (not my usual!) and thrillers this month and finally read (listened to) Project Hail Mary.

  5. Good luck with the Cool Kids Challenge! That does sound like a perfect way to stay active! I hope it goes well! It might be one of those chalk that you find yourself continuing to go long after the scheduled period ends!

  6. I love the idea of the street challenge. I’m always trying to get my steps in, but it’s harder on days that I try to not run. Oh I need to check out that book! I read First Lie Wins and couldn’t put it down! I just read Culpability and it was really interesting- family drama combined with AI,etc. I’m all for summer reading..

  7. The cool kids challenge sounds like a good one, a good way to get moving and get outdoors every day! When it comes to fitness I have very unambitious plans for June, but I’ve given myself the challenge to write every day – to me this is way harder than deadlifting or whatever!
