January Runfessions Over February Coffee

Happy Friday!

Well, here we are at the end of the month. Is it just me, or did January feel oh so l-o-n-g?

Marcia has opened the Runfessional and Coco & Deborah  are inviting everyone to catch up at the Ultimate Coffee Date, so let’s dive in and chat a bit.

Over coffee, I runfess that I’m losing my cold-weather edge. Despite the relatively milder weather we’ve had this month, I still have no desire to layer up to run. My runs this month have been a pretty even split between indoor and outdoor – seriously, who am I?

Over coffee, I runfess that I had originally planned to kick off my racing season with a 10-miler in February, but given that I have had absolutely no desire to run longer than 5 or 6 miles, I’ve decided to take a pass. Both my brother and husband will be running the 5K option, and I’ve happily decided to join them!

Over coffee, I would tell you that I made the decision to step down from 3 ambassadorships and not re-apply for 2020. While I am still a big fan of SPIbelt, SkirtSports, and Tailwind, collectively I runfess that all the ambassador stuff started to feel like too much. Cutting back a bit feels good. Now that being said, I also runfess that there is one apparel brand I would certainly say yes to if selected.

Over coffee, I runfess that despite my goal to prioritize sleep, I have not been doing myself any favors thanks to staying up to watch the Australian Open. After Wimbledon, I have become a huge fan of Coco Gauff. It was fun watching her make a run through the Open, but the time difference was problematic for sure. It’s time to get back to an earlier bedtime.

So, what would you tell me over coffee? Any runfessions to share?

  1. I hear ya on the sleep (or lack there of). Although I’m pretty adept at functioning on 4-5 hours, yesterday’s stairway/HIIT workout really had me feeling some fatigue. Thanks for the reminder…I gotta make sleep a bit more of a priority. I think it’s great you’ll have the hubby and brother to do the 5K with…that’s a win-win 🙂

  2. I thought this month went by too quickly! Can’t believe it’s already the end of the month. I feel you on cold weather running. When it’s in the 40s here I opt inside because I don’t want to layer my clothes. But I also don’t mind running indoors.

  3. I stepped down from SpiBelt this year; and while I so wanted to re-up for Inknburn, I just couldn’t justify buying more of their gear. I’m happy to rep the 2 race promoters in Chicago. That’s not so much work since I get to run!

  4. Isn’t Coco something else? Love her! I was definitely more selective with ambassadorships this year as well. Thanks for linking!

  5. I also stepped down from a bunch of ambassadorships. Too much work and not enough reward. I actually prefer the winter runs but it’s slightly warmer here. I think you should do what ever makes you happy! That’s why you run 🙂

  6. Oh, I hear you on running outside. Even though most of the time it hasn’t been that bad. It can take me hours to get msyelf out there!

I think dropping down to the 5k is a great decision. Honor your body! I bet you have a ton of fun. Training for Winter races is no joke.

  7. Sounds like we’re both enjoying the shorter distance runs at the moment!

Totally understand about stepping back from ambassadorships – I did the same time. Sometimes it feels like a part-time job and I just don’t have the extra time to devote a lot of different brands anymore.

  8. Sleep has been hard for me, lately, but when it does come, it changes everything.

I stepped back from some ambassadorships last year and am rebuilding this year. It was the right decision, for sure.

  9. There certainly isn’t anything wrong with running 5 or 6 miles. I’m actually looking forward to going back to that after April.

  10. I needed every day of January to get my work done — and I’ll need our extra day in February too! Since I have to bundle up to take Scooby out any way, I usually convince myself I shoud just take him for a run. It will be fun to do the 5K with your husband and brother!

  11. I stepped back from a few blogging partnerships too. I needed to for time managment!! It sounds like you are doing the right thing by opting for the 5k!!!

  12. I feel like January always feels like the longest month of the year. ._. But we’re finally into February!!

I’ve been sleeping about 5 hours/night for the past 1.5 decades and I liikkeee to think I function pretty well as it is, but will admit–winter always makes me want to sleep more, hehe.

Have fun with the 5K! :]

  13. Love watching tennis. Federer is my fave. Love Coco too.

Yes I gave up all my ambassadorships. Just legacy skirt sports. No pressure to post or buy.

I’m running a lot of halfs. With thus constant foot pain I wound not run at all if I didn’t have a big race on the horizon. Crazy I know.

  14. I am always surprised when there are so many long distance races in the Northeast in February – way too cold for me! I hope you have fun at the 5K!

I hear you on the ambassadorships. There was a year where I had so many and it became pretty overwhelming!

  15. Sometimes you need to change the game. We will miss you at Skirt Sports but totally understand the need for change.
