Wrapping up July

I swear if I were running at a pace equal to how fast these days are clipping by I’d have a PR or two!

Instead, as I predicted, in my July goals, the month was very low-key on the running front. And, honestly could stay that way for the rest of the summer. But before I look ahead to August, Iet’s quickly wrap-up July.

Running – July was my lowest monthly mileage of the year, and if it hadn’t been for the RnR Chicago Remix I might have run even fewer miles. Both the hip and knee made it clear that time off and extra self-care were needed. I even finished the month with a week of non-running – though I did make an exception to log a little road time with my youngest son!

Strength Work – I made daily PT exercises a goal and for the most part, this was a win, as the only days I missed were during the Chicago weekend. I also logged 7 hours working with the physical therapist, leaving most sessions with jelly legs as Abby has really pushed me with a lot of single leg work. My plank streak also grew to 211 days, and thanks to the 5-minute Plank Challenge, I upped the ante on the length of planks.

Cross-Training – My July goal was to get to kickboxing class twice a week. Unfortunately, work and camp pick-ups made this a challenge so I had to settle for a weekly class and supplemented with time spent on the Arc Trainer.

Macro Plan & Weight Loss – I started following a macro plan in July and did hit my goal of doing a better job with meal planning and prep. I spent the month trying to figure out how to scale back on the carbs a bit while increasing my protein. As a result, I saw just a half pound off the scale but did lose a half inch in my waist.

I’m still noodling over August goals, so, for now, that’s a wrap!

I’m joining Holly and Wendy for the Weekly Wrap.

And, with ErikaMarcia, and Patty for Tuesdays on the Run.

How was your July? Have you set any goals for August?

  1. You did a great job!

PT is going to do the job sooner or later, and it’s awesome that you’ve got your meal planning down. I am really the worst about that and I wish I was better.

July ended up being a great month! Not sure about August yet, but I am hoping to get in some more cross training.

  2. I absolutely love the picture of you and your son running together. My oldest asked to run with me a few weeks ago and I’m thinking that he liked it as he has since bought himself a brand spanking new pair of running shoes!! Fingers crossed he sticks with it.

Hang in there, summer months with young kids makes it hard to maintain a workout schedule. Things will be back to normal soon and you’ll find yourself back in a routine.

  3. July was my lowest and I am healthy. So you did great comsidering you were injured.

I hope August is a good month for both of us.

No goals – but I do have a half in Sept.

  4. Well, you definitely kicked booty (literally!) with your kick boxing and all that PT work. I’m so glad you made it to Chicago, though, even if the races were a little treacherous for the hip and knee. Hopefully a little time off will work some magic for all those grumpy parts 😉

  5. All of that awesome PT time is going to pay off! When I did PT I always left sweating and feeling like I had just completed a workout lol

  6. I loved that you got to run with your son! I hope he continues.

I’m so glad you came to Chicago to run. Hopefully, your PT exercises will get you back to where you want to be.

  7. Sounds like you are doing solid work that will pay off. I can’t believe how fast summer is going by.

  8. I think making PT a priority is definitely the smart way to go! Decreasing miles now for self-care will only benefit you in the future. 🙂 And I love that picture of you and your son! I wish my girls had wanted to run with me when they were younger. Well, I say that now – back then, I think I was running to get some time away from them. LOL

    • Too funny – I totally get the running for away time 😉 My oldest started running with me when he was just starting middle school and now runs cross country in high school. I’m hoping my youngest will follow suit.

  9. I have been hearing more and more about counting your macros. I need to look into that and try it out Great job!

  10. all in all you did great – you got a lot of good work done with a bonus of weight and inches off! you don’t always have to run, especially when the body say “uh. excuse me, but I’m not feeling it right now!” Obviously you need the PT and the other stuff you are doing is working in your favor!

I’m still kind of noodling over august goals too!

  11. I wish we could pump the breaks a bit on summer right now. It’s slipping away too fast! That pic of you and your son is priceless!

  12. It sounds like July was a pretty solid month for you, even with the rest week and lower mileage. How fun to run with your son! I really wish I had started earlier–now there’s no way I could keep up with my kids!

Summer is going by entirely too fast here in Maine! Love the picture of you and your son, so sweet!!! 🙂

  14. Great job sticking to your goals! I need to figure out a better eating strategy. I’ve been too busy lately to make it a priority. Congrats on making changes that are getting you results!

  15. Summer is tough with kids out of school! But, I know you enjoyed every step of that run with your son! August will be my reboot month. I plan to double up on my PT exercises to strengthen a pesky hip. Fingers crossed for both of us! Thanks for linking!

  16. It is so hard to make changes with the macros and stick to them. Carbs are just too good! 🙂 Sounds like you are making progress!

  17. Carbs are my best friends. I love them so much. Glad you are having some success with the changes to your diet. And go you with the PT! I need to be better about doing exercises for my foot…

  18. Great job this month! It sounds like you were smart by backing off running a bit and focusing on PT. Hopefully that will pay off soon!
