Ultimate Coffee – May 2016

It’s the first Saturday of the month, and time for the Ultimate Coffee Date. As always, a big thanks to Coco, Lynda and Deborah for hosting! When you’re done here, be sure to check out the link-up and see what the other ladies are dishing about.

The Ultimate Coffee Date
If we were having coffee together, I’d tell you that I’m back on my kick to catch up with a friend every week. I started this goal back in March, and managed to finagle lunch/dinner/coffee or something with a friend each week. While I’d hope to keep the streak going in April, I missed out on a couple of weeks. But I’ve already kicked off May with a long-overdue dinner this week with an old college friend, and am determined to make time for more connecting this month.

If we were having coffee together, I’d tell you that speaking of connecting, I’ll be stepping out of my comfort zone this month to participate in some group runs. I’ve never run with a group for fear of being “the slow one,” but I would really like to connect with more local runners so I’m going to give it shot.

If we were having coffee together, I’d tell you that I’m itching to put together a new playlist, and ask you to share your current favorite running tunes.

If we were having coffee together, I’d tell you that it blows my mind that in just 4 short weeks there will be a high schooler in my house! Really how did that happen?! So there are final projects to wrap up, class trips to enjoy and courses to pick. My son mentioned switching from Spanish to Chinese, and I’m thinking I may need to invest in Rosetta Stone just to keep up 😉

Rosetta Stone

Is this in my future?

If we were having coffee together, I’d tell you that my Mother’s Day plan includes sleeping in (if I get to anything post 8 o’clock, it’s a win!), cheering my boys on in Lacrosse (of course!), and, hopefully, a little running. J and the boys will also be cooking one of my fave dishes, Greek-style Shrimp, for dinner.

So what would you tell me over coffee?  Happy Mother’s Day to all my fellow mother runners!

  1. What a great idea scheduling and catching up with friends. Isn’t it amazing how the time just flies by and the next thing you know it has been months and years before you have chatted. Crazy!

High Schooler….eeek! My youngest will start K and my oldest 3rd grade….I can’t believe how fast time flies!!

I have run with my local Moms Run this Town and Black Girls run group but really prefer to run by myself or with 1 or 2 other people. Good luck and enjoy!

Happy Mother’s Day! Enjoy sleeping in and dinner 😉

    • It is crazy how fast the time flies, and like you said I realized that months were passing and I wasn’t connecting with friends. The weekly thing takes some serious effort, but it’s totally worth it.

I really do enjoy running by myself too – it’s my “me” time. But I’ve always wanted to try a group run, so I figured why not 😉

Hope you have a great Mother’s Day!

  2. What a wonderful goal, to try to see a friend a week. My social life slowed down while I was marathon training and as soon as it stopped, I couldn’t get enough of people ! I missed being around them. All I wanted to do was be with others… it was so weird.

High school is fun, but you need patience. And more patience. Happy Mother’s Day !

    • Ah yes patience…that’s exactly what a friend of mine said to me the other day about high school. Middle school was kind of stressful in my house so I’m looking forward to this new chapter!

      Happy Mother’s Day!!

  3. I love that goal of connecting with a friend every week! So fun. Hope you have a great Mother’s Day! I’ve been thinking about group runs over the summer just for fun and stay connected. I’m very much a solo runner.

    • I know what you mean on the solo runner thing. But, I keep reading about how others are really enjoying their running groups and I’ve always been curious to try one…we’ll see how this goes 🙂

  4. Oh Michelle, a high school kid. Yep, our daughter will be a freshman next year. Our son will be a Junior and I just got home {hours ago} from South Carolina as we watched our oldest son graduate the Army and is now heading for the Airborne Ranger program. My my how our kids make us feel old. I am envious of you finding a running group, as I have always wanted to join one. I am trying to find my way back to running and am hoping to do it soon. Have a fabulous weekend my friend.

    • Such a big and special event for your family – congrats to your son! Ah, so you’ll have a freshman in the house too? We’ll have to compare notes 😉

I hope you have a wonderful Mother’s Day weekend! Thanks for hosting the link-up!

  5. I love the friend-goal. That is awesome and really doable for one a month. My girlfriends are so important to me, but I don’t give them enough of my time- this is a great idea that I may borrow!

    • Yep I so agree about the importance of girlfriends! The various weekly meet-ups have been fun and definitely a nice counter-balance to work and all the other demands on my time!

  6. Oh Michelle, I am so happy to hear you’re participating in group runs. I don’t run with several people much, it’s usually just 2 or 3 of us but gosh, you would be surprised what you can do and how fast it goes. Running with others even at different paces helps so much. Hope it works out well!
I’ll see you in the Weekly Wrap and happy Mother’s day to you!

    • It’s been so much fun getting together with friends – hopefully I can keep the streak going!

Enjoy the day with your family 🙂

  8. Oh, I do miss cheering my son on at lacrosse! At least I will be seeing him for lunch. You’ve inspired me to try to make plans with friends more frequently. This week didn’t work out with business trips and mother’s day, but I’ve got something in the works for next week that I hope pans out! Happy Mother’s Day!

    • I do love the lacrosse games! I’m always sad to see the season come to an end.

Hope you have a wonderful time with your son at lunch! Happy Mom’s Day 🙂

  9. My son will be a high schooler too! They only have French, Spanish and German as options. He wants Japanese. His father is letting him not take a language.

  10. I hope you have a wonderful Mother’s Day! That’s awesome that you’re going to try out a running group, I do think it can be a little intimidating at first but when you find that right fit, it’s the best! You’ve also inspired me to do more reaching out to friends, I’ve been such a hermit since the winter!
