Calm before the storm

It’s the calm before the storm…..literally!

A monster snow storm is due to hit the Boston area starting some time early this afternoon. In anticipation of what’s to come the schools have already been closed and the local weather people have done their very best to whip everyone into a “clear the store shelves of milk and bread” mentality!

And, while yes I did have to the hit the store yesterday for a few things – I usually do my best to avoid that kind of madness…I have to say that I exercised great self-control with my fellow man as they filled shopping carts with all manner of “supplies”…. seriously how many bags of chips and cases of soda are needed in the face of “snowmaggedon?” I’m still trying to figure out what the woman in front of me in line was going to do with that 5lb barrel of icy melt?!

My big “storm prep” came mainly in the form of getting my usual Saturday long run done yesterday. Thanks to a cranky ITB, it became just over 7 miles with more walk breaks than I would have liked. But I’m happy I got some miles in on dry pavement! I’m headed to the chiropractor this morning before the flakes fall, and then I’ll consider my storm prep complete πŸ™‚ As long as the power company holds up it’s end of the bargain, it should be a weekend filled with cross-training in the form of building snow forts and snowmen, movies, cooking and games with the kids.

  1. You can never one too many bags of chips in a storm, eh? πŸ™‚
    Stay safe!

  2. Good move getting the run done before the storm! The hysteria that the media creates with storms always kills me. They are especially good about it here, where just an inch is a big deal. Enjoy the snow!

  3. Good idea to do your long run early…we did a hill workout yesterday and are hoping to get our 10 miles in maybe Sunday morning instead of Sat.

My husband was off yesterday, so he hit the grocery for us (great guy isn’t he?) while I was working. We’re all set and watching it snow now πŸ˜‰

    Stay safe!

  4. AHHHHH Those empty shelves make it look so scary! We got a ton of snow up here in Toronto last night, and it just keeps coming!

  5. I’m right there with you MIchelle! Here in MA, it’s been snowing (not heavily yet) since early this morning. I’m fortunate to be able to work from home, so no worries about getting stuck in some nightmarish commute. I was also fortunate in that I didn’t have to go near a store – though I heard horror stories!!

Good luck in your neck of the woods and great job getting the run in!

  6. Stay safe this weekend!

  7. I think my crosstraining will be done with a shovel in hand…..we’re hunkered down in our family bunker….red wine opened……movies to be watched….books to be read….should be a great weekend! Stay safe and warm!

  8. First of all, LOVE the new blog design!! I hope you all made it safely through the weekend!

  9. I hope you’ve dug out by now! Winter is teasing us — we’ve had snow falling from the sky but not much sticking at all this winter.

  10. Awesome article.
