It’s the last Friday of the month, which means for this week’s Fit Five Friday I’m joining Marcia to share a couple of runfessions before we head into a new month.
A Couple of January Runfessions
I runfess that the month of January always feels like THE longest month for me, and this start to 2026 has not changed that trend one bit. Perhaps it’s the post-holiday blues, my kiddo returning to campus, all of the political strife, being saddled for almost 2 weeks with a cold, the extreme temps…or all of the above, but my “new year” energy has taken a hit.
A couple of weeks ago I shared a post on ways to take care of yourself during these winter months and I runfess that I’ve not been doing a good job following my own advice, especially with my hydration! I recently downloaded an app to track my intake – curious to see if it helps.
Does anyone else feel like this has been the longest month? What would you runfess?

Yes, it has been a VERY long month, but I’m already stressing over how much I have to get done in the short month of February!
The super cold weather and turmoil in the wider world makes self-care a challenge.
Uh oh sounds like your clients are at it again – do you have a lot of work travel coming up? Hope it’s not too hectic!
It has been a long month -the weather is way worse than it usually is. I’m glad I am not training for anything bc it would not be going well. I guess that’s a plus. Hang in there and stay warm!
Yes I had the same thought about training! I couldn’t imagine trying to prepare for a spring race in this weather.
This has been the LONGEST, coldest, most brutal (in many ways) January EVER. Thank goodness for running and good gear.
Is it too early to start counting down to Spring LOL!
Total agreement…January is always a long month. Ironically, we don’t have the usual snow (though there is a tiny bit blowing around I type). Still, I’m eager to move on to brighter & lighter days and much warmer temps. I hope we’re both blessed with a better February:-)
Yes! Here’s hoping February is kinder to us 🙂
yes… longest month ever. Feb is shorter but so far it looks even colder. Boo.
and me too, I am so bad with drinking water.
Yes looks like this deep freeze we’re in is going to last for a bit!
Usually I feel like January is super long, but this year it flew by. Not sure why that would be! However, I didn’t have a lot of “new year energy” either. Long or short, it’s still a blah time when all the holidays are over and the college kids leave.
Keeping my fingers crossed that February is better.
THE LONGEST. I said that to A today… This month has been the longest year ever. It took him a minute to get it but he agreed.
I hope things are better for you soon. It’s almost too much sometimes.
It is almost too much at times…thanks Jenn.
This January has been the longest month in the history of the world! Having the surgery hanging over my head and scrambling to get everything done ahead of it has kept me busy and still every hour crawled. Now my recovery is crawling as well. Haha!
Oh I so know that feeling of having the surgery looming! I’m so glad you have it behind you now – Wishing you a speedy recovery!
