Five Things Over July Coffee

And just like that it’s Friday again – these weeks are just flying by! It’s time for another edition of Fit Five Friday and since it’s the first Friday of the month I’m I’m linking up with Coco and Deborah for the Ultimate Coffee Date.

Five Things Over July Coffee

Over coffee, I would tell you that I’ve been enjoying a lovely stay-cation this week. My office has an org-wide shutdown for the week of July 4th so I’ve been blissfully logged off my computer since last Friday afternoon! It’s been a fun week of catching up with friends and family, time reading and lounging on the deck, and generally just recharging. I was feeling fried and this mid-year break couldn’t have come at a better time!

Over coffee, I would tell you that I’m knee-deep in design decisions and I’m loving every minute of it 🙂 We’re anxiously awaiting our appearance before our town’s conversation board but with lead times being what they are we need to work on parallel tracks to settle cabinet/appliance/countertop etc. decisions.

a wine dispenser sounds like a necessity, don’t you think?

Over coffee, I would tell you that once again I did not get into the London Marathon. Can’t say I’m surprised, but I always hold out a little hope. Maybe it’s the Universe’s way of reminding me that, at least for right now, I have no interest in running more than 10 miles and that I have too much on my plate to take on marathon training.

Over coffee, I would tell you that we’re 3 weeks away from our family vacation! I’m looking forward to seeing the glaciers, wildlife, whales, and all the amazing landscape Alaska has to offer.

Over coffee, I would tell you that I’ve momentarily jumped on the Threads bandwagon. I’m pretty sure I don’t need another social media app but admit that curiosity got the better of me. So far it reminds me of the early days of Twitter but there are features missing that would help to control what shows up in your feed. Apparently, more features are coming…we’ll see if it lasts on my phone.

Will you join Threads? Any vacations or staycations planned?

  1. Sounds like a great staycation! Your Alaska trip also sounds pretty sweet 😉 I saw the chatter about Threads, and for now I’m taking a pass. Like you mentioned, I don’t need another social media “obligation,” LOL

  2. I’m jealous of your staycation! My job gets very busy in the summer, sigh! Did you see anyone get into the London Marathon? I think I saw one post–otherwise, it was all denials. Crazy@

I also signed up for Threads and wasted, I mean spent a lot of time on it yesterday. I deactivated my Twitter account last year after Elon Musk ruined it. I actually missed it, so hopefully this will fill that void. We’ll see!

    • The whole London lottery is so crazy – I’ve only seen two runners say they got in.

This staycation has given me life – I was getting pretty cranky right before the time off!

  3. I just heard about Thread today. Deborah mentioned it and at the exact time I was reading her blog, a clip about it came on a news show I had on the TV. I am curious to find out more about it but I won’t download another app. I am never on Twitter anyway!
So glad you got to enjoy the mid week break. Your Alaska trip will be here before you know it!

  4. Our trip to Alaska was one of my favorite vacations ever! Hope you all enjoy as much as we did. Are you going on a cruise?

  5. No interest whatsoever in threads. Facebook is enough for me!

Glad you’ve gotten a break right when you need one. Alaska IS amazing — enjoy!

Sometimes the Universe works in mysterious way (the London lottery).

    • It’s funny about Facebook – just the other day I said to a friend that I’m not sure why I keep my account since I’m never on there. I do still use the messenger function sometimes.

While the London rejection was a bummer I honestly do not know how I would have fit in training for a Spring marathon!

  6. A midsummer week off sounds PERFECT! I’m glad you’re relaxing.

I can’t wait to see your Alaska pics!

I got rejected from London again, too! I only know one person who got in. womp womp!

  7. Too bad about London.

Good luck. I’ve been there. It’s stressful but worth it in the end.

Alaska has been on my bucket list not sure if I’ll get there. Many other $$ projects in the way

Lucky you having the week off. At least I had Tuesday and Wed off.

    • Having the week off has been such a gift!

I’ve lost track of how many times I’ve applied to London – perhaps it’s just not in the cards. Maybe I should try the NYC lottery instead 😉

  8. Ooh! You have a staycation AND a vacation coming up! Alaska sounds amazing.
I certainly hope you’ll be getting a wine dispenser in your new kitchen, ha ha. I’m hoping we’ll see before and after pics!
Don’t worry about London- you didn’t really want to do that anyway ; )

    • The staycation and vacation combo is definitely a huge bonus!

The thought of a wine dispenser cracked me up LOL – No chance it makes it into the final designs but I’ll definitely be sharing photos as we move along in the process.

  9. I love the idea of a midsummer holiday week! Glad you enjoyed! Sounds like lots of exciting stuff is coming your way. Have SO much fun in Alaska. It far exceeded my expectations. All the best with the kitchen reno as it moves along!
I don’t know a soul who got into London this year. I coach a handful of athletes who put in for it but nope!

    • Oh boo to none of your runners getting in. I know two runners I follow on social who got in, but my feed was filled with people posting their rejections 🙁

  10. I joined Threads this week. Not sure what I think of it so far…

I love Alaska and can’t wait to go back. It’s one of my favorite vacation spots. Have fun!

  11. Ah, sounds like a great week!

I think Zuckerberg is figuring out Threads too. We’ll see how it ends up. I was hoping a fresh start with a smaller follow list would make it more interesting, but your feed isn’t limited to who you follow, so ….

  12. hooray for staycations! I had this week off too! LOVE IT. Though I have to wait 8 weeks for my next trip though. Y’all are going to have an amazing time in Alaska!!

I didn’t get into London either. I think we may go just to experience it anyway. We’ll see. But yeah I don’t really want to run a marathon right now!

No threads here- it violates way too many EU privacy regulations.

  13. Say hi to all the whales and huskies for me! That’s going to be amazing.

I love Threads. Twitter was so toxic, and this seems easier.

I love that your company did an across the board break. How awesome for morale.

    • Having everyone off at the same time is great – it alleviates the stress of trying to “catch up” with everyone who was working while you were on vacation. And, everyone returns in the best mood 🙂

  14. I only know one that got in the London Marathon. Who are the other thousands of people that got in? How did I miss you going to Alaska this Summer? That will be so much fun! Where exactly are you going? I did a runner cruise a few years ago and it was a lot of fun.

  15. Staycations are so nice to have! :]

I…will not be joining Threads, haha. I can barely keep up with what’s already around; I don’t think I can handle yet any more!
