An Iced Coffee Chat for June

Happy Friday! I’ve got both today and Monday off and am looking forward to having another long weekend! And, since it is the first Friday of the month, for this week’s Fit Five Friday, I’m linking up with Coco and Deborah for the Ultimate Coffee Date. It’s going to be another warm one today so I’ll be having my coffee iced, how ’bout you?

Over coffee, I would tell you that last weekend I ran Boston’s Run to Remember 5 Miler. I still haven’t gotten around to writing a recap, but I will say it was a lot of fun to be back at a race – my last race was in November! I finished thinking about what I might run next and I’m pretty excited I’ve decided to reconnect with Coach Marc again.

Over coffee, I would tell you that I’ve been enjoying spending time in my garden. It’s one of my happy places and I’ve been loving seeing the colors start to pop!

Peonies in full bloom!

Over coffee, I would tell that my husband and I started watching Succession and we’re completely hooked! This family is a train wreck and we can’t stop watching.

Over coffee, I would tell you that I recently joined my office book club. It’s been a fun way to connect! So far we’ve read Woman in the Library (meh), Lessons in Chemistry (loved!), and Black Cake – definitely our best selection yet! Black Cake is an amazing story of a family’s history shaped by the secrets of the matriarch.

Over coffee, I would tell you that recently we had a great meeting with our contractor. Fingers crossed we’ll break ground on the new foundation by the end of July. I can’t wait to dive into all the choices for flooring, tile, cabinetry, and appliances! Just another excuse to watch HGTV 🙂

What would you tell me over coffee? Do you have any good advice for surviving a remodeling project?

  1. We just finished Succession! What an ending and I really had to process it. It was quite a show. There are so many nuances to the characters.

I loved Black Cake as well.

How exciting about your addition! I’m sure you can’t wait!

    • We’re still in Season 1 – I can only imagine what a wild ride the show will be by the time we get to Season 4!

I’m so excited to get this addition started! I’ve been wanting an new kitchen for years!

  2. Ooh, Succession sounds like a must-see. I’m totally hooked on Firefly Lane at the moment. I’m glad your race went well last weekend!

    • Thanks Kim – it’s definitely my favorite local race.

I’ve heard good things about Firefly Lane – I’ll have to add it to my watch list.

  3. Oh, I need a good book to read. I will check out Black Cake.

Enjoy your long weekend — hopefully in your garden!

  4. Thanks for the reading recommendations. We have some very long flights ahead of us. My daughter recommended Succession as well. I may watch that as we fly as well. I swear I spent 6 weeks living in the basement and eating turkey wraps out of our garage fridge during our kitchen reno but it was so worth it!

  5. I will check out black cake-I also loved lessons in chemistry. Did you know it’s going to be a series on Apple in the fall? Our deck remodel went really well. Are you doing your whole house or just a few parts? It is fun to pick out new stuff!

    • We’re remodeling the kitchen and adding a new family room and master suite on the second floor so there will be lot of fun choices to make!

  6. I LOVED Black Cake.. My garden needs work… the deer are eating things and the weeds are overwhelming me.

Great news on a coach…. what is you next race?

I keep procrastinating on our deck redo.. GL to you!

    • The deer haven’t made an appearance yet but the rabbits are nibbling on everything!

I’m eyeing a couple of fall halfs but haven’t settled on a race yet.

  7. I always drink my coffee hot no matter the season. All of my friends think it’s weird when we’re super sweaty post run.

Remodeling is hard. Will you be living there or is this a new house where you’ll move to? The latter is obviously easier to deal with!

  8. Love the peonies, and loved Black Cake. Such a good one
I need to reinvigorate our office book club
Good luck with the renos! Can’t wait to follow along

  9. I’ve never tackled a really big remodeling product. We half redid the kitchen when we moved, but that was a LONG time ago (and so much fun with 2 cats & 2 dogs). Good luck!

    Nice job on your race!

  10. It sounds like you have a lot of good things going on- your garden, a book club, your race, a coach… hopefully it’ll all put you in a good place to deal with house renovations! I imagine there will be a little bit of stress that goes along with that, but I agree it’s exciting. Can’t wait to hear all about it!

  11. Good luck to you on the remodel. We only ever remodeled our basement and that was enough to stress me out…lol
The book club sounds fun. I enjoy reading books and often thought it would be nice to talk to others about it. Also, I’ll keep that series in mind cus my husband and I are always looking for new ones. Tonight we are going to watch the last season of Manifest that just came out.
Congrats on the Boston 5 miler. That sounds like the perfect distance!

  12. Yay for breaking ground!

I finally finished Lessons in Chemistry – I loved it but it broke my heart.

Your garden is gorgeous. I wish I could grow things.

  13. Yay for another garden lover! I am so enjoying ours as well!

Ron just mentioned Succession to me TODAY. How weird is that. I guess we will be putting it on our list. We just watched the Last of Us and are waiting for season 2 whenever that happens. And currently watching Silo.

I am always happy to read about book recommendations. I just don’t have the time to read. how do you all do it? between work, running, now gym, parkrun, and two different social activity groups that I help organise there is just no time. Maybe I need to evaluate this more.

good luck with the reno. I hope it goes smoothly. We only had our bathroom done and it was before we moved but they were literally working on it until the last minute. Stress!

    • Honestly audiobooks is the only way I’ve been able to keep up with my book club. I’ve been listening on my commute to the office and sometimes when I’m out for a walk. It is hard finding time to fit in “all the things”!

  14. The peonies are so pretty!

Lessons in Chemistry is on my list but I haven’t gotten around to it yet. I need to add Black Cake to my list!

  15. While I like hot coffee, I loved iced coffee even more. I even drink it during the Winter! Glad to hear things are moving forward with the renovation. I know that is an exciting time for you!
