Catching Up Over October Coffee

It’s time for another edition of Fit Five Friday – and what better way to kick off a weekend than with a little coffee catch-up with friends? I’m joining Coco and Deborah for the Ultimate Coffee Date, so grab a mug, and let’s chat!

Over coffee, I would tell you how happy I am that October has arrived! I love fall and I always feel like October is when fall is at its best! Bring on the apple picking, leaf-peeping, hiking, and evening fires on the patio. My husband and I will also be celebrating our 29th wedding anniversary.

Over coffee, I would tell you how much I am looking forward to visiting my son for parents’ weekend at the end of the month. I was surprised that the weekend was scheduled so late into the semester (like Halloween weekend late!), but we’ve got our hotel room booked and hockey tickets reserved (trust me both are precious commodities!) While it’s great to see him on the occasional FaceTime, I’m really looking forward to giving my son a big hug.

Over coffee, I would tell you that I’m hooked on the show Only Murders in the Building. It’s a 10-episode comedy-mystery starring Steve Martin, Martin Short, and Selna Gomez. A new episode drops every Tuesday and there are only 3 left.

Over coffee, I would tell you that I’ll be running the Ocean Road 10K on Sunday! I ran this race a couple of years ago and am really happy to see that the race organizers were able to make it happen as an in-person race this year. I’m looking forward to running with my brother again – we always have such a good time together 🙂

And speaking of races, over coffee I would tell you that I’m excited to volunteer at the Boston Marathon next Friday! I’m assigned to bib distribution and am hoping that I’ll see some familiar faces. From the many emails I’ve received from the BAA, it looks like there will be a lot of covid safety procedures in place.

What would you tell me over coffee? Any big plans for this month? What are you streaming?

  2. Have so much fun at parents’ weekend! It is SO much fun to see them in their new surroundings and to be on campus. I’m excited for you to volunteer at bib pickup. It’s such an electric atmosphere. All the best with your 10k!

  3. Happy anniversary to you and the hubs! We celebrated our 33rd last week. Time sure flies, doesn’t it? Enjoy parents’ weekend too. It never gets easy having the boys gone…

  4. We are streaming Westworld. Because yes we are very behind the times. A thrifty husband.

Our anniversary is this month too!

Enjoy your time with your son & your race — plenty of fun things to look forward to; that’s great!

  5. Ooh, thanks for the show rec! My Hulu subscription has been collecting dust. I totally get the need to hug your son — thank goodness they still let us do that! 😉

    Good luck with the 10k!

  6. I like October, too! It’s going to be 80 here today so more like Aug-tober. Hopefully it will cool off for Chicago Marathon next weekend.

  8. Yay in person races! Happy anniversary and so glad you have an October full of good.
Freshman year parents’ weekend was this or next and mom had to overnight me a coat as I didn’t expect it to get so chilly so early in Rochester.

    • Funny – I’ve been wondering if I’ll have to ship up a jacket to my son before parents’ weekend cause he’s super close to the Canadian border and I doubt he even packed a sweatshirt.

  9. Oh, while reading your post I suddenly wanted to hug my son : (
That is late for parents weekend! Ours (although we weren’t there) was last weekend. Well, it gives you something to look forward to and makes October extra special.
Good luck with your race! Glad your hip is feeling good and you are able to run it with your brother.

  10. I hope you have fun at Parents’ weekend + the 10k! That’s awesome that you’ll be volunteering at the Boston Marathon! :]

  11. How exciting to get to see your son for parents’ weekend! It does seem late in the semester and not all that far from Thanksgiving break.

Yay for running a race with your brother tomorrow. Have fun! My brother used to be a runner (bad knees now), too, but we never ran a race together.
