Five Things over March Coffee

It’s time for another edition of Fit Five Friday hosted by DarleneRenéeJennZenaida, and me! We look forward to linking up every Friday to share YOUR weekly fitness favorites!

This Friday, I’m kicking off the weekend with a little catch-up over the Ultimate Coffee Date hosted by Coco and Deborah. So grab a mug of your favorite beverage and let’s chat a little!

Five Things Over March Coffee

Over coffee, I would tell you that spring cannot get here fast enough. I cannot wait for more time outdoors – to break out the deck furniture, get back in my garden, set up the fire pit on the patio…and of course, run without all of the layers!

Last month over coffee, I shared how crazy things were at work. I wish I could say that since then things have improved but the days have still been long and stressful. At least I have re-gained my weekend time back.

Over coffee, I would tell you that I just received an email announcing that the 1st race New England 10 Miler Series (the Portland 10M) has been postponed from April to September. I registered to run this 3-race series last year before COVID and was grateful that the organizers deferred the series instead of going virtual. The first race will now be the Newport 10M in June. With the RDs offering a deferral credit, the question is to wait and see if RI lifts restrictions in time for the June race or consider deferring the whole series to 2022.

Over coffee, I would tell you how much I’m looking forward to having my oldest son home for spring break in a couple of weeks! Given the quarantine restrictions of both my boys’ schools, I’m sure our spring break plans will be pretty low-key – but no matter, I’m always happiest when we’re all together under one roof.

Over coffee, I would tell you that I’m looking forward to diving into my MasterClass subscription and trying out some new things this month. I’ve had the subscription since Christmas but haven’t made the time to explore any of the classes yet. I think I’m going to start with Gordon Ramsey’s cooking classes.

What would you tell me over coffee? Would you wait to try to run

  1. There are a few local races here that are supposed to be in person this summer/fall but we keep getting Emails that they don’t have confirmation yet that they can he held in person. I haven’t signed up for any of them because they are pretty expensive and I dont want to pay alot to do a virtual race.
Hope work settles down for you soon!

    • I’ve been holding off on registering too for the same reasons – I think it’s still going to be a few months before things settle down here.

  2. I just found out yesterday that my favorite 10 miler is taking place next month in Chicago! Will wonders never cease? They have a guaranteed refund policy if the race is canceled. Fingers crossed it happens!

    Hang in there, friend!

  3. I have a half marathon in mid/late April that offered an early bird promo a few months ago. The race had a virtual venue at registration, but there was hope it could go live. Still haven’t heard what the status is, but the price was too good to pass up so I registered anyways. Fingers crossed it does go live! I am excited, though, for the hubs and I to pin-on race bibs tomorrow!!!

    Cooking classes sound so fun.

And yes yes. So tired of grey skies wind and layers. Come on spring.

Hope you get to run a real race.

Cape Cod. Hooray. See you there.

  5. It’s such a crapshoot with racing right now. Seems like everything is pushed to fall. Our college girl does not get a spring break this year due to the extended holiday break. Even our high schooler only gets 4 days. Oh well. Enjoy having your son home!

    • Originally my oldest wasn’t suppose to have a spring break, but the school altered the schedule. He’s ready to get off campus and I can’t wait to see him 🙂

  6. My husband has watched a few of those Master Classes and enjoyed them. Gordon Ramsey is fun to watch and he is different than he is on Master Chef. Yay for races opening back up! I am hoping we start to have some here in June. Enjoy your kids at home!

    • I’ll be curious to see if Gordon actually cooks something the home cook can master. Hopefully as we move into the summer more races will start to go live – fingers-crossed.

  7. I feel your pain about work, but hopefully their will be a light at the end of the tunnel for us!

The Masterclass subscription sounds awesome! You;ll have to let us know how you like Gordon Ramsey’s class.

    • There are so many options in Masterclass – it’s almost a little overwhelming. But I love Gordon Ramsey, so I figured that was a good place to start.

I hope work settles down for you too!

  8. Well, I’m glad at least you’ve got your weekends to yourself again. It seems as though everyone is really crushed with work.

That’s a tough decision about the RI race. Good luck, Michelle!

  9. I’m glad your son is able to come home! I know all schools are doing it differently, and I know some didn’t want the kids traveling back and forth too much so they don’t have spring break.
Hang in there! Remember March goes in like a lion and out like a lamb (hopefully.)

  10. Ugh, I hate having to make decisions without all of the facts up front so I’m afraid I’d be in the same quandary as you.

Enjoy having your son home! There’s nothing like having them all under the same roof once they start going off to school.

    Have a great weekend!

    • There so many variables on the race decision – this voice in my head keeps saying to play it safe and kick the whole thing out to 2022…but gosh that seems so far away!

  11. Bring on spring!! It got cold here again but hey at least the sun is shining? Sorry to hear it’s still crazy at work for you. This week was also a boat load of cray and I am so glad to see the back end of it.

You know, I’m not even paying attention to any of the events here in NL. I just can’t anymore. I have no idea when I’ll get the vaccine and to be honest I don’t think that this is the end of corona. I honestly think I’m just going to wait for 2022 and do other things this year in the mean time. Also I want to be fit and ready to go for Chicago 2022 (if that happens). Whatever you or they decide, I’m sure it will be the right thing.

    Enjoy your togetherness!

    • The vaccine is a big question mark for me too – the rate of distribution is getting better, but I think it could still be quite a while. I completely get just waiting it all out until next year – it will be so awesome for you to finally get to run Chicago!

  12. Spring cannot get here fast enough for me either. I wrote in a post last week that winter is my 4th favorite season. Sooo ready for warm weather and more daylight.

I might be interested in doing that Newport 10-miler. My sister lives on the Cape and we go up to visit her each summer. Newport is less than 1 hour from her house. I will have to see what our vaccination status is at that time. I will check it out!

    • The Newport 10M is a good one – I ran it the inaugural year and have been dying to go back! Half of the course is along the water and the other half takes you by the mansions. Let me know if you decide to register.

  13. Ooo, I did a one-month free trial of MasterClass and it was awesome checking out all the cooking classes on there! Definitely made me really want to start cooking again, and I like that you can download the PDFs of each class for notes!

  14. Glad you’ve been ab le to at least re-claim your weekend. Hugs

  15. I’m with ya! U cannot wait until Spring gets here. I feel like it’s been to long of a cold snowy winter. This will be the first spring in my new house and I’m looking forward to buying patio furniture for it.

  16. Oh, how cool on the Master Class series! I hope GR is a kinder instructor than he is on his tv shows! My work is still crazy too. I’ve managed to reclaim 1/2 my weekends ….

  17. I’m sorry work has been so crazy for you. Things have finally calmed down with my work. I actually have gone home early a couple of times.
I don’t have any plans for an in person race but there are a couple possibilities in the Fall.
I would love to do the NE series! Newport must be cool. As a kid the mansions was always a school field trip.

  18. That is exciting that your son will be home soon! Yay for Spring Break! I would love to do a race but am not ready for any race but I guess at this point who cares? A race just for fun, right?

  19. We have had live races back for a while now, but it’s been great. I’m not doing our big 15K (it’s the largest in the country), and even though they’ve limited it to 8000 (down from 20K), that’s still so many people. So. Many.

I hope work eases up soon.

    • Wow 8000 does feel like a lot right now – I know I would not be ready for that! Interesting fact about it being the largest 15K in the country.

  20. I’m jealous that your kid is coming home. My son’s college did away with Spring Break, so he stayed at school for the two days they got off. I haven’t decided if I’m going to drive up for a weekend or not in March since they are done in late April.

I’m so ready for spring. Definitely need the warmer weather asap.
