September Runfessions

Marcia has opened the runfessional and I’ve got a few things to share, so let’s dive right in, shall we?

I runfess that I am nowhere near “half marathon ready” with the Detroit half just a few weeks away. When Detroit race organizers announced they were going virtual I had every intention of dropping down to the 5K. For those not keeping score, I have done nothing in the long-distance department all summer – I’ve had zero interest. I kept saying “I gotta remember to change my registration” …well as you’ve probably guessed, I kept forgetting and when I finally logged in to do so, the virtual 5K was sold out! Doh! Ah well, the half marathon swag is pretty sweet and on its way, so always earned never given – I will get it done.

Which of course begs the question – why sign up for the BAA’s Finish Strong Challenge which includes a half marathon?! I runfess that fall weather running giddiness may have played a role. LOL! I really wanted a goal to push for to finish out the year so the Challenge seemed like a good idea (half marathon and all) – plus, I runfess, I know I’m going to want to redeem myself after the Detroit effort.

I runfess that while I’m looking forward to having some running challenges this fall, I continue to “drink the kool-aid” that is Peloton. My bike will arrive (finally) in a couple of weeks, and in the meantime, I continue to love the new content they’re adding. After doing the “Crush Your Core” program earlier this summer, I’ve been trying to keep a fairly steady diet of core workouts going, so when the Breakthrough Crew Facebook group (from this summer’s Pelothon) announced a core challenge for October, you know I am all in!

So tell me, what are you runfessing?

  1. The Core challenge looks really good! I runfess that I’ve neglected a lot of core work this summer and I need to change that!

I am also not half marathon ready, lol. My plan right now is the do run/walk intervals. I’ll give myself a few weeks to log some longer mileage so I’ll probably do the half on the 24th or 31st.

  2. I’m in that same place where a half marathon seems like a really long way to run! Haha! Running is tough! I’ll bet you’re so stoked your bike will be arriving soon!

  3. I’m hoping for better luck with my upcoming half marathon than I had with the previous one! This is a live race–maybe that will be the difference?

  4. Between running & walking yesterday, it was almost a half. I was definitely tired after that! I think some of it was just the time in the sun . . . that’s my story & I’m sticking to it. πŸ™‚

  5. You could always log a good 13.1 mile ride on your new bike after it arrives…just saying πŸ˜‰ Hey, it’s 2020…anything goes! (that’s my story and I’m sticking with it LOL) I have swag arriving in the next few days from an April half (and a 1-mile race) that was postponed…and finally went virtual. Well, Barb and I ran the 13.1 miles on the actual race day (because we were in condition), so I’m just gonna bike these 13.1 miles (in my event jacket). I might even write a “race” recap, too πŸ˜‰

  6. Putting off switching registration is definitely something I would do! Hopefully your fall races go well now that its finally cooling off!

  7. Oh, gosh, I keep forgetting to deal with my Richmond Half registration. I hope it’s not too late to defer …. Glad you are joining me for the Breakthrough Crew Coretober β€” it’s going to be tough! Good luck with your Half training.

  8. No worries, you will earn the swag. I know that I can run 10 miles but anything over that gets dicey so I will be adding in run-walk if needed without shame. No matter the distance fall running is going to be awesome!

  9. Still really want a Peloton! Still probably not going to happen.

I have to get half marathon ready soon! I’m supposed to do one on 11/7!

  10. I have a virtual half marathon with running club happening some time in October and I am up to about 10 miles maybe. Hm. But never mind, we will work our way around it. Good luck with all your efforts – autumn running is always fun anyway, right?

  11. I thought of your bike this week when I saw someone getting a Peloton delivery when I was out for a walk.
I feel you on fall running giddiness. We want to do all the runs sinice the weather is just perfect, and for me allergies aren’t the issue they are in spring
