March Movement

I mentioned in my Runfessions the other day that I was toying with the idea of a March run streak – something to help shake things up and maybe help me find my running mojo. While an intriguing idea, in the end I’m not convinced that 31 straight days of running is really for me. I’ve come to embrace my rest days and know how important they are for keeping my legs happy. Plus, with more snow last night and more to come later in the week, the thought of trying to do the streak on a treadmill might just push me over the edge.

What I do like about the idea of the streak is committing to doing something every day – so that’s become my goal for March…. 31 days of movement in the form of strength work, yoga and running. I was psyched to see that Black Girls Run! Boston is doing another 50 mile challenge – these are always fun as we cheer each other on, so I’ve joined in and am hoping to get in on some group runs if the weather cooperates.

yoga-pose-rodney-yeeI’ve also dusted off my yoga DVDs and kicked off March Movement yesterday with a little Rodney Yee! If I can swing a studio class in with my schedule than that will be a bonus, but at least the DVDs will guarantee I’ll get two days of yoga a week — along with 3 days of running, 2 days of Trainer Stacy’s strength work should make for a good week.

So that’s my plan for March! What are your goals?

  2. Great goals! Run streaks are not for me for the same reasons. I tend to get injured running every day and there are other things I want to do.

  4. Could not agree with you more: run streaks are not for me. My goal this month is to build some endurance base for my April races. Running just hasn’t been my focus and it needs to be.

  5. I always like the sound of run streaks but then I think the pressure on myself wouldn’t work because my schedule is so unpredictable! I’m really trying to get focused and on track with half marathon & half Ironman training in March. Hoping the weather clears up for more outdoor running!

    • I know what you mean about feeling pressured – I think it might end up negatively effecting my running. And I’m so with you on the weather, I need to get back to more outdoor runs!

  6. I could never do a run streak but I am also committed to moving everyday. Some days are more intense than others of course but I find it’s the best way for me to stay on track. Good luck!

  7. I think you made a great decision on not doing the run streak!! Mixing it up is great – love the yoga!! I am really starting to see a small difference in my flexibility with doing yoga a couple of times a week
The 50 mile challenge will be so fun!
Goals: I will be running in the pool and biking a lot this month! πŸ™‚

  8. After doing the Runner’s World Streak I’m not sure I could ever do it again haha…but I love the idea of doing different strength, yoga and running throughout the month! I’m still focused on Cherry Blossom but making sure I keep it all in balance!

  9. I’m with you on the run streak. It always sounds like a good idea in theory and to motivate but I don’t think I could run every day for a month either!
