Monday Motivation: Each run gives you something

You know those runs where you feel like you’re just flying…the wind is at your back, your legs are firing on all cylinders and you could just keep going long past your target miles for the day?

Yeah…well this morning for me was NOT one of those runs! It was already pushing 80 at 6:15 this morning and when I stepped out my door my arch enemy humidity was waiting for me. Less than a mile in, I was a drippy, sweaty mess and I knew this was going to be one of those runs where I’d do a lot of bargaining with myself…”just 3 more telephone poles,” “OK, just get to the next stop sign.”

The good thing about this morning’s run? I pushed through and finished it. And, no matter how bad it felt while I was in the middle of it, it felt really good to have gotten it done.

After having a string of really good runs all last week, this morning’s run was a reminder that not all runs are great…but each run gives you something. This run made me focus more on my form, it tested my will when I just wasn’t feeling it and it kicked off my 3rd week of training…getting me just a little closer to my goal.

What did your run give you today?

  1. Those mental toughness runs are just as important, if not more important, than the physically challenging runs!! Props to you for pushing through

  2. Great run Michelle. This is how my run felt this morning…but I got through it. And you did too. Congrats.

  3. GREAT job pushing through that sucker. Heat and humidity are beasts. BUT you’ll emerge that much stronger come race day. Count on it!

  4. I love this quote….GREAT job Michelle on pushing through and finishing! The air is SO thick! I saved my run until tonight…hoping it will cool off. Wishful thinking!

  5. Haha, I have to push myself with telephone poles too. So glad you pushed through it. I’m waiting out the heat a little bit and gearing up for my run around seven. So hopefully it treats me nicely!

  6. I know that feeling so well, Michelle…..that was how I got through the half-marathon I ran down in Rhode Island on Saturday. Thankfully, today was cross-training in the gym, but I’ll be out there in the humidity tomorrow morning….already looking forward to it……NOT!!! LOL

  7. I’m right there with you today! My run was hot and sweaty and the route that is usually easy peasy for me was TOUGH. Tomorrow is another day and it will be better. A not great run is better than no run!

  8. I’m not sure how you guys do it in humidity land…we don’t have much humidity in Colorado and so I’m a huge wimp when I have to run in it. I fear Chicago Marathon is going to make me melt. Great job, girl – those runs you push though when you really don’t want to are the best ever!!

  9. Good job on finishing a tough run, those runs are very important. It helps to train your mental strength and to prepare you for the moment when it gets tough during a race. Good job!!

  10. i try to remind myself that those sucky runs help me really love teh great one’s. But seriously the heat and humidity is making it harder in general

  11. Way to get through a tough one Michelle. I personally got handed a couple of dogs running out at me about 2 miles into my run from an area where I’ve never had that issue. Sort of put some zippidy in my do-dah !

  12. My run yesterday was pretty challenging after not having run for 12 days due to vacation. I’m so glad I stuck with it. Never regret a workout, right?

Great job in the heat, that has to suck.
