A Couple of June Runfessions

Happy Friday! It’s time for another edition of Fit Five Friday – and since it’s the last Friday of the month, I’m linking up with Marcia to share a couple of Runfessions. So let’s dive in!

A Couple of June Runfessions

While I’ve done great with my goal of daily walks this month, I walk-fess that my mileage took a hit this week thanks to Ma Nature who thought it would be great to usher in the start of summer with a heatwave. Feels like temps of 80+ in the wee hours of the morning and tripple digits by midday are clearly not conditions for racking up the mileage!

Tuesday’s weather map. Heat like this usually doesn’t hit until later in July – and even then triple digits are rarity!

I also walk-fess that while I do own a treadmill, I’ve had zero motivation to use it during this heatwave. Thankfully the temps are supposed to settle down over the weekend.

I runfess that for the first time since my surgery I’ve allowed myself to start checking out running shoe reviews. I’ve been debating between returning to my long-time favorite Brook Ghost or going to my favorite run shop for a fitting. I’m still probably a month or so away from being ready to return to running so there’s no rush, but it’s kinda fun to be looking at running shoes again 🙂

  1. Yeah, this week’s heat was no joke! I[‘m so glad my trip to Boston was last week — much better running weather. 😉

It must feel great to have a return to running on the horizon! I like going to the running store because you never know what they did to the new model.

    • I hope one of these trips to Boston we can catch up!

And I think you’re right about not knowing about the changes to new models. I feel like running shoe companies often tweak a design for no reason.

  2. Really, you don’t like triple digits? HA. I’ve been on the treadmill all week and I have no regrets.
I would go to the running store- it would be fun! You might find something new that you love. And how exciting that you’re able to start thinking about running again. It’s been a long time, right?

  3. These 100 degree temps were just defeating for sure! I did many of my walks on the tread this week too. Stay cool!

  4. I’m due for new shoes as well. My right hip area has been feeling pretty cranky recently, and I think my time-worn shoes are a factor. I am also planing to hit up a running store and have a gait analysis to get some feedback on what I should be wearing. I have a long-standing loyalty to Brooks Adrenalilnes, but they have tweaked them so much recent years, it may be time for something different. I hope your transition back to running goes well!

    • Yeah I think both the Adrenalines and the Ghosts have been tweaked a lot over the last couple of models. Sometimes I wish companies would just change the color ways but leave a good shoe alone.

Sorry to hear about your hip – hope it settles down soon!

  5. That’s great news to hear that you’re starting to think about running shoes again! We got away from the east coast just before the heatwave hit. It’s been delightfully cool in the mornings, mid-80’s for the high, and low humidity here in Utah this week.

  6. No pressure, but I totally think you should go for a fitting. Things might have changed and it’s a great way to try all different models to see what might work best.

  7. Yeah that heatwave was no joke here either. The 80s overnight is just ridiculous. How exciting you’re getting close to a return to running. At this point it feels like I’ll never get there. Ugh.
