Fit Five Friday – Year-end Fitness Goals

Thanks for joining me, DarleneReneeJenn, and Zenaida for another edition of Fit Five Friday!

It’s hard to believe that in less than 80 days 2023 will come to an end! For this week’s Fit Five Friday, we’re inviting you to share your goals for this final stretch of the year. Of course, you’re always welcome to write about any other fitness-related topic.

Five Year-end Fitness Goals

Get back to running — I have been grounded for 4 weeks – 4 weeks without a run! Now that I’ve got my MRI results and know that there’s no tear, I’m ready to focus on a plan to get back out on the roads.

Continue to Opt Outside — I make no secret that the fall is my favorite season, so why not maximize my time outdoors before winter creeps in? I’ve been walking during my grounded phase and will continue to #optoutside daily as I work on returning to running.

Prioritize Sleep How many times have I said this?! My sleep has been junk lately and I’m really feeling it. I need to lean into my evening routine so that I set myself up for a good night’s sleep.

Meal plan While I’m great at consistently planning each week’s dinners, I’ve been totally winging it on breakfast, lunch, and snacks. My choices lately have not always been the best, as evidenced by the numbers creeping in the wrong direction on my scale, so time to fix that!

Find a race to do “with” my son — My oldest recently announced that he’d like to find a race to train for and we thought it would be fun to run one “together” – of course that’s in quotes because he will dust me at the start line but we’ll be running the same race. He wants to do a 10K in the Spring (before thinking about a half marathon). I’d love to be in a place where I can run a 10K with him.

Tell me, what have you got planned for these final months?

  1. That would be so cool to run a race with your son. I tried unsuccessfully to make that happen with my stepson even tough he ran track in hs.

I do hope your heals and you are running again.

Being outside is the healthiest too.

I get the winging it… there’s just enough time in the day.

  2. These are some great goals. I love the idea of you running with your son. Maybe your brother can run, too! Keep it in the family! 🙂

I agree on doing more outside, too!

  3. Opting outside is so great!

I love that your son wants to race with you! Can’t wait to hear how that turns out!

  4. HI – I am new to your blog. I recently started running (again) and at age 62, I wanted to read about other women over 50 or so that love running. The link-ups you share have introduced me to a few fun blogs. As for your goals – they sound great. Meal planning is a tough one as a busy working mom so I hope you can make that happen. It is way easier to eat healthy when a plan is in place.
I ran “with” my son this past weekend. It was his 33rd birthday and we did a race together. But he did the 10K and I did the 5K. He is fast and I know we won’t be running side by side. But we love cheering each other on and he is a great coach for me. Love the plan to run with your son!

    • Hi Bernie! I’m so glad you stopped by 🙂 I love that you recently started running again and that you ran a race with your son. I know what you mean about the “with” part – my son is so much faster than me lol. But like you said it is so fun to cheer each other on!

  5. Great goals! I’m looking to finish the Mammoth challenge to wrap up the year. I also have to make a decision on the Chicago Marathon. Registration is open–will I do it? I have to see if my youngest is serious about it. I don’t know if my body is up for it. I’m looking forward to starting my powerlifting cycle in the gym. Not sure about the powerlifting meet.

    • I think it would be amazing if you and your son decide to run Chicago. I had so much FOMO after seeing all of the RHT’s posts from the weekend and remembered how much I loved running that race. I love that you’re starting a powerlifting cycle – you inspire me to lift heavier this winter!

  6. I’ve been out of the loop and didn’t know you stopped running. Great news that there is no tear! It is exciting that your son wants to run a race with you.
