Roaring into March

As I sit here sipping my coffee, I think this is the first morning this week that I don’t hear the wind. They say March either comes in like a lamb or lion and this week we certainly heard the lion’s roar in the form of the wind. Here’s how this week’s workouts went down.

Weekly Run Down Week 9

Monday — 20 min ride, 20 min Upper Body Strength, 10 min core, and 10 min stretch. Wind advisory outside so I was happy to stay indoors. I snagged a PR on this ride and this upper body workout left me with jelly arms..but in a good way!

Tuesday — Rest day plus 10 min core and a stretch.
Wednesday — 3 miles, 10 min core, and a stretch.
Thursday — 20 min ride plus 5 min cooldown ride, 10 min arms toning, and 10 min core. This ride had a lot of in and out of the saddle with heavy resistance – my legs were fried by the end. The playlist was a good one!

Friday — 1.5 miles, 10 min core, 20 min yoga. I woke up with everything feeling creaky – the yoga was so needed!
Saturday — Double workout day! I repped my state in the Zooma’s International Women’s Day 5K in the morning and then jumped on my bike for a 20 min ride, plus 10 min core, and 10 min stretch later in the day.

While I haven’t had much motivation for virtual races I liked that ZOOMA is using proceeds to help sponsor Women for Women International, an organization that supports women in countries affected by conflict and war.

Sunday — As I noted at the start of this post, I’m still sipping coffee, but with the wind being a non-factor, I’m sure I’ll be heading out for a few miles.

March Goals

As you know, I like to set monthly goals. I’m keeping it simple for this month…

  • 60 run/walk miles
  • Continue with daily core workouts
  • Focus on hydration – 64 oz/daily – I’ve let this slide a bit so I need to follow my own tips and get back on this!
  • 3 strength training sessions/week – 1 upper-body, 1 lower-body, and 1 full-body

How was your week? Did you set any goals for March?

I’m linking up with Deborah and Kim for the Weekly Run Down.

  2. Great job on your workouts!

Great minds think alike – I talked about March coming in like a lion, too! I’m so over the wind, and thankfully, today’s not as bad here either.

  3. good week Michelle! your race Saturday, was that live or virtual?? I think your March goals are definitely doable. I haven’t really set March goals, I’m kind of continuing and tweaking Feb goals a bit.

  4. We had alot of wind this week too and I didn’t like it! But at least we saw the sun, and it warmed up slightly. Good luck with your goals this month!

  5. Sounds like a full and fun week of fitness! Great job on your PR ride. I love your goals!

The wind was rough today here too…makes running a lot less fun!

  6. On my second round of coffee over here now 🙂 I have set a goal of getting out for walks at least 3 times a week and running btwn 70-80 miles this month. I am also enjoying the daily core and need to go do mine for today!

  7. Looks like a great week! Ironically, the wind hadn’t been bad…but it’s back today. At least most of the snow is gone & the streets are clean. Hope your run goes well…I’m headed out soon for a few miles with Barb.

  8. A wind advisory is no joke! Thankfully it’s been pretty calm here and next week is looking gorgeous weather wise. I don’t have any specific goals for March, except to run as much as I want and keep up with my strength training.

  9. I like your March goals! I need to work on hydration too.
Sounds like you had a good, well-rounded week!

  10. Compared to February, March has been downright lamblike! It’s a little breezy today but we haven’t had much in the way of wind lately. I’m sure it’s all going to change, but I’m enjoying it right now.

Nice week, Michelle! Have things gotten better at work?

    • Nice – I hope things stay lamb-like for you 🙂

Things are finally starting to take a turn for the better at work – thanks for asking Wendy!

  11. So windy here too. I’m just sick of it.

At least today it was sunny…but a rest day…it figures. I’ll do my NY Zooma 5k tomorrow.

    Good job with your goals.

I don’t have specific ones…I try to run 3x short and one long…plus daily walks and one hike.

  12. We had some gale warnings earlier in the week — and frigid temps too. Then it got warm.. Then it cold again. That’s our March!

I like your strength training goals and may adopt them, especially now that I can do more upper body with my rib and hand healing.

  13. The wind was fierce here too last week. A few days we had wind advisories as well, but we did have a lot of sunshine so that was nice.

I think Olivia’s nickname is “the glitter assassin” or something similar, and it definitely fits her, lol. I have that ride bookmarked too.

  14. I can’t believe I’m saying this but March has been very much a lamb here so far. It’s been amazing. You remind me I need to do better with hydration as well. Thanks for joining us for the Women’s Day 5k!

  15. Nice goals, Michelle, and a nice mix of workouts, too!

You look good in your photo for the 5k!

  16. March has come in like a jerk! I can’t remember it ever being so aggressive. Ugh.

Great work and great goals! I’m trying to do more strength training, but it’s been hard to squeeze it in.

    • I think it’s always a challenge to balance strength training and running. I’m going to try to focus on a couple of shorter workouts I can tack on after a run, and then one longer session each week.

  17. March is starting off good for us. Happy about it. Nice goals, Michelle. I have been pretty good about using the book but not strength training. Need to figure out when to incorporate it in my training.

  18. A good week! I did the Zooma run on Monday, I only do virtuals if they support a charity, so was pleased to contribute to Women for Women International.
