Week 6 on the Corona Trail

Happy Sunday!

I just got back a little while ago from a really nice 3-mile walk with J and our pup. I had originally planned to run this morning, but my right hip had different ideas, and the one thing my PT made me promise was to not run if I had any pain. The truth is I only had one run this week and I’m oddly ok with that. Here’s how my week went down…

Monday — 1-hour physical therapy session
Tuesday — Peloton 20 min Chest & Back Strength and 10 min Bodyweight Strength
Wednesday — Peloton Yoga for Hips, plus PT exercises
Thursday — 4 miles logged plus PT exercises
Friday — Another marathon PT session
Saturday — Strength training via yard and garden clean up and prep. Never underestimate the number of squats, lunges, upright rows and bicep curls you’ll do over the course of a few hours of yard work!
Sunday — In addition to this morning’s walk I’m planning on some yoga this afternoon

For some reason, I had no real desire to run this week so I focused on other things. My PT sessions were challenging and humbling (it’s amazing how some of the smallest moves can be so hard!) but I like the plan my therapist has laid out and I’m willing to put in the work so it’s all good.

Some other positives for this week…

…there was lots of extra virtual bonding with friends. I was especially happy to get to connect with Kim for a FaceTime walk.

…my new kicks arrived! While I’ve been running in Brooks Glycerin – the newer model seemed a little too mushy for my liking so I’m going to give these Ghosts a try.

Brooks Ghosts

Aren’t they pretty?!

And that’s my rundown for the week. How was your week?

I’m linking up with Deborah and Kim for the Weekly Run Down.

  1. Sometimes we need to take a break from running! Nothing wrong with that. Hopefully that will give your hip some time to calm down.

    Have a great week!

  2. I’m about to head outside for some garden squats and lifts…sound familiar? It was so nice chatting last week! Yes, that needs to be happening on the regular 😉 I hope your PT continues to keep you our of trouble…hope that hip is feeling better, too!

  3. I was not feeling too much running this week either. My hip things also flares up from time to time and I have to listen to it. I also wear the Glycerins andI was wondering about the newer model. I hate it when they change them up too much. Have a great week!

    • I really loved the Glycerin 17s…makes me crazy when shoe brands feel the need to mess with the design. I may still hunt to see if I can find some 17s to keep as back-ups if my new Ghosts don’t work out.

  4. There’s a huge difference between “running” and “running in pain”. Down the road you’ll get the miles that you wisely did not run this week. Let me know how you like the Ghosts, I’ve only tried Launch and love them. As soon as our local running store reopens I’m going to go there and try on all of the Brooks.

  5. Oh, new shoes are always a mood booster! I hope these work out for you. I ran 3X this week, but didn’t do any Peleton treadmill workouts, so I never got super-sweaty — I might have to fix that tomorrow. I’m glad your PT is going well and you are listening to your body.. I hope your hip just needed a day off.

  6. Ha, yes, PT sessions can be humbling! Who knew that standing on one leg could be so difficult.
Yard work is a great workout – and useful, too!

  7. I ran less this week too and was ok with it. Sometimes when life gets stressful I either run alot to deal with it, or I find myself backing off because I need a break. This week I definitely needed a break. Glad the PT is going well!

  8. Good choice to not run with pain. And love the blossom tree in your photo.

I’ve got five runs in and 21 miles so back to normal with the mileage but still shorter runs as earlier. I guess running this often a week, something I’ve never done before, isn’t actually destroying me, though!

  9. I hear you on the workouts in the garden. I swear I got injured from a marathon weed pulling session one year. Hips are so incredibly finicky. You are smart to pull back on the running and focus on PT.

  10. I hope that you like the Brooks Ghost sneakers. I think that’s probably the most popular model of Brooks sneakers. I have a pair that I use for shorter runs.

I’m glad that you took it easy with the running this week. Always smart to listen to your body, especially to avoid any unwanted pain.

  11. Ooooh. Love the new shoes. My birthday is coming and I’m debating if I should just go for it and order a new pair.

You had a good week, despite the hip pain. I hope it’s feeling better.

  12. Nice job! I hope your hip feels better – it seems like your PT has been going really well!

I have the Ghost 12’s and I don’t know, I really liked the 11 but the fit of the 12 seems off…I had Glycerins but they were too mushy for me to run in too!

  13. I get it. Some days, I just feel like walking. And even when I do go for a run, I feel like walking. I think it’s the weather, the stress of the world, etc. Plus NO RACES!!!

  14. New kicks are always great! Alas the ones I bought for the June half remain in their box.

I actually like PT. Going, that is. Luckily I haven’t had to go much. Although continuing to do the exercises — pretty much forever — that’s hard!

Sometimes you need a break from running. Nice to connect with Kim, too!

    • It’s funny I actually don’t mind going to PT right now – it feels productive…and it’s a good reason to get out of the house for a bit!

  15. Yard work is my nemesis!!! I always feel like I ran 2 marathons back to back the day after doing yard work. Ugh. I am trying to figure out what PT work I need to do. I’ve seen someone at least 3 different times for my hamstring issues, so I’m trying to piece together a progression of what exercises I need to do to get back at it. Apparently I’ve done a really great job in the past since I keep repeating my injury LOL!!!!

    • Ugh – so sorry about the hamstring issues 🙁

I sometimes forget how taxing yardwork is – I always get a little over-ambitious while I’m out there and then pay for it later LOL!

  16. Sometimes we need to rest and to take a break to come back stronger and faster.
I hope your hip feels better.
Brooks Ghost are my favorite shoes.
