Adjusting

As the days roll on, I feel like I got my feet back underneath me this week. I did my best to focus on what I could control, turned down the volume on all the pandemic news, and just tried to take each day in stride.

Week 5 of social distancing/shut-down et. al. is in the books, here’s how the week’s workouts went…

Monday — With a Nor’easter raging outside, I opted for Slow Flow Yoga via Peloton and PT exercises

My son decided to join me!

Tuesday — 3-mile run. It was still a little windy but you couldn’t beat the sunshine!
Wednesday — 1-hour physical therapy session – boy was I sore after this one!
Thursday — Upper body strength training plus PT exercises
Friday — 3 miles.

The chalk work continues to make me smile

Saturday — Peloton 20-minute core strength plus PT
Sunday — 4-miles

While it’s no great surprise, I received the notice that Boston’s Run to Remember pulled the plug on the Memorial Day weekend race date. Given the logistical challenges, race organizers decided that postponing to a later date was just not an option, so this will be a virtual race, along with a generous discount on next year’s registration. So now I’m awaiting word on the Newport 10 Miler scheduled for the first weekend in June…I can’t imagine this one will go off either. #firstworldproblems

This week’s positives…

…another good PT session

…Zooming again with fellow run bloggers

…all in my “world” continue to be healthy and safe

I hope this last point is true for all of you as well!

I’m linking up with Deborah and Kim for the Weekly Run Down.

  1. Restricting my news time down to 10 minutes a day has really helped me. Like you said, just focusing on what we can control is the most important thing we can do right now.

Nice week of workouts! Monday’s weather was so gross but I’m glad that we ended the week with sunshine.

While I didn’t sign up for the Run to Remember race this year, I’m still on their mailing list so I got the email about the virtual option. I am considering doing it!

    • Sometimes it’s hard to strike a balance between staying informed and news overload, but overall restricting my time has helped so much!

I love that you’re thinking of doing RTR’s virtual!

  2. I am also barely watching the news anymore. It just makes me anxious. Glad to read you are enjoying all the Peloton workouts. I am feeling like this week went better as well. So great to see you yesterday! Looking forward to the next one

  3. I tuned out the news a long time ago but kind of got sucked in at the beginning of the pandemic and after a few days realized that it just wasn’t helping and tuned out again. I’ll check in with my state’s daily news conference a few times a week just to make sure that we’re up to date on shelter in place stuff but that’s it.

  4. We’ve cut way back on the news here too–especially because I get updates from work daily and they are way more reliable than anything I hear on TV. I go from sad to infuriated so it’s best that I tune out. Here’s to hoping for a good week for all! The sun is supposed to shine most of it, and no snow is a win.

    • Yes – definitely a roller coaster of emotions! Enjoy the sunshine – unfortunately, we’ve still got a fair amount of rain and frost in the forecast…where’s spring?!

  5. Glad everyone is well and safe in your world 😉 Like most, I am avoiding the news as much as possible. The hubby always has some “news” channel on, in another room, thankfully…so he knows to keep it in there LOL Hoping we can find a time to chat this week!!!

  6. I’m not sure I’m brave enough to try a 20 min core program! Yikes. Glad your running an PT are going well.

I definitely had to cut down on the news this week. I was getting panic attacks from the escalating volume.

  7. That is a good solution: switch to a virtual race and get a generous discount on next year’s registration. I have a race in July that could not yet decide what they’re going to do – I wish they would go for Boston’s option!

  8. Glad that in your world you are healthy and safe.
I am also avoiding to hear the news, on tv now the covid19 is the only topic!

  9. Its so important to try to focus on the positives. Sorry abut your races, but as you said its to be expected at this point. It was nice to see you this weekend!

    • At this point, I’m just kind of curious to see when the first in-person race will actually take place. It was fun to see you too – your son is adorable 🙂

  10. Darlene S. Cardillo says

    Yes. Healthy here. That’s important.

Just getting into a routine and not one I enjoy but getting outside when the weather cooperates. Miss my races!!!

  11. I stopped watching our governor’s daily Covid briefings and I think it’s helping me with stress. I’m glad you’re feeling a bit better as well. I can’t help but think some of the races that have been pushed to fall will not happen. I think your races were wise NOT to go that route.

  12. Glad things are feeling better this week for you! And that’s good news about the PT sessions going well 🙂

  13. I’m glad that you’re feeling better. I have significantly cut back on my time on Facebook and I think it’s helped substantially! That PT session sounds great, and that’s great you and your son practiced yoga together!

    • I can definitely understand cutting back on Facebook – social media has been tough at times during all of this. I’ve definitely been dialing it down as well.

  14. Yup. We are all (currently) healthy and safe and hope to stay that way. It’s not easy, but we will all get through this together.

  15. I watch the Governor’s press conference here and there. It is pretty much the same news. 🙁 Bummer about the Run to Remember race but I understand the reason for the decision.

  16. Having everyone stay healthy is a huge plus! And I love that your son joined you for Yoga. If only I could get someone other than the dogs in my house to join me. 🙂

I’m sorry about the races. I only had one half I was signed up for. Even if they decided to hold it, by the end of June, I just can’t really see myself doing it, what with all that’s going on.

It’ll be that much more special when we get to race again, right?
