Some Runfessions for February

It’s the last Friday of the month which means Marcia has opened the Runfessional. I’ve got a couple to share so let’s dive in, shall we?

By all accounts, this has been one of the mildest winters for the Boston-area in a long time….and yet I runfess that I’m over it. Last month I admitted that I had pretty much split my runs evenly between indoors and outdoors. This month while I’ve run outdoors more often, I runfess that I’ve taken to chasing the 40 and 50-degree temps, which has meant more mid- and late-day runs – anything to avoid an extra layer. I’m turning into a weather weenie.

I runfess that I’m bemused by the people at Orangetheory who are so possessive about “their spot” in the studio. I was practically trampled the other day by this one particular woman who felt she needed to beat me to the front desk to claim her favorite treadmill. I  got to the desk first and runfess that for half a second I thought of claiming her spot 😉

And speaking of Orangetheory, I runfess that I have learned the hard way that I must keep my reading glasses with me at all times. The other day I couldn’t read the card on the treadmill outlining the run/row workout block – thankfully, the woman next to me was sweet enough to keep prompting me so I could stay on track. Clearly, I cannot live in denial about my need for reading glasses any longer!

What are you runfessing this month?

  1. I agree. It has been a mild winter but as always I am ready to ditch those layers.

Luckily I wear contacts – one for near and one for far.

  2. Ha ha.. the trample you’re the favorite treadmill! As if I’d ever have that problem LOL When I’m walking on the ‘mill, I usually have to rely on my readers if I’m scrolling on my phone…I feel your pain.

  3. I’m with you on being done with Winter! I’ve definitely been scrutinizing the hourly forecast and trying to pick the warmest time of day to run if possible.

  4. I am newly realizing that the reading glasses are here to stay! Used to have the same issue with the bikes in spin class before I got my Peloton. I think I might have been the one that got there early to snag my spot 🙂

  5. We’ve been mild here too this winter but I will say, Boston was completely snow free when I connected there for Bermuda. That said, I too am ready for spring! Wow people can be so territorial. It’s crazy. Thanks for linking!

  6. I keep saying I’m “too young” for readers. My eyes don’t listen.
Treadmill wars is the one thing I don’t miss about a treadmill studio I used to take classes at. So much drama
30s is “too cold” today here too. Yep, weather weenie here too

  7. I confess I have a favorite bike at PT, but I certainly wouldn’t run over anyone to get to it. Especially when most of the other patients are seniors. That would just be so wrong! (the other bike makes loud squeaks once you get going, so it’s a little annoying).

  8. Thats kind of funny about claiming treadmills! When I used to go to the gym I had my favorite machines but I definitely didnt push anyone out of the way for them. I also used to set up my stuff in workout classes kind of early so that I could get the spot I wanted.

  9. I’ve been wearing glasses since I was 12, contacts since I got married. No getting around it for me. Although the eye dr keeps telling me to use readers & I refuse — I mean, shouldn’t I be able to read stuff if I’m wearing my contacts? If I don’t have them in, I can read close up — but can’t see distance. Ugh!

People at gyms are always possessive of their spots. Heck, even at our WW meetings, we have “our” seats.

The Winter has been mild. But not everyday! It’s really howling out there! That’s part of why I often choose to run by myself, because I can go later than my friends want to.

  10. Hah! You should have seen the stampedes before they implemented the card system — it was a mad dash when the studio doors opened. Since I start on the rower, it’s not usually an issue. I could never read the treadmill workouts — doesn’t the coach lead you through it anyway?
