RtR Training Week 6 – Time to build an ark?

The story of the past week around here was the weather – honestly, it rained or was overcast every day! It’s been more than a week since we’ve had a nice sunny day and I’m starting to think if this keeps up, building an ark would not be out of the question!

As far as training weeks go this one was pretty uneventful…

Monday – Rest

Tuesday – Strength training – upper body

Wednesday – Started May off with 3 miles

Thursday – Rest

Friday – Strength training – leg day

Saturday – 5 Miles

Despite all the rain, the trees are pretty!

Sunday – 4 miles – derailed by a bad stomach!

Sunday’s run was supposed to be 8 miles but for some crazy reason when my alarm went off this morning my stomach was churning big time. I kept pushing off the run hoping things would improve, but eventually, I knew I needed to get out if I was going to attempt the distance and get back in time before heading out to see Avengers Endgame with my family (The movie was excellent, by the way!). My husband J offered to pick me up if I needed so off I went. In the first half mile, it was pretty clear that I wasn’t going to make it to 8 so the goal was to just keep going until I couldn’t…and did I mention it was raining … again?! So as they say, some miles are better than no miles, and 4 miles was it.

We might actually see the sun on Tuesday otherwise it looks like another washout of a week. While I’ve been trying to avoid stormy conditions, I’m trying to stick with outdoor runs – one, I’m no fan of treadmill running, and two, you never know what race day will bring!

Tell me, are you seeing the sun where you are? Rain runner yay or nay?

I’m linking up with Deborah and Kim for the Weekly Run Down.

  1. Same here with all of the rain and overcast weather. I think we might actually have a rain-free day today – yay!

Sorry to hear about your stomach issues on your long run – that’s definitely no fun 🙁 But like you mentioned, some miles are better than no miles!

    • I hope you were able to get out and enjoy the rain-free day. I keep hoping this weather’s going to break once and for all before it just turns to summer!

  2. We’re having ALL THE RAIN too. Although the weekend was nice. The upcoming week looks wet and cold again. I hope this isn’t our pattern for the summer!

  5. Glad you liked the movie! I need to see it again to process a little more!

I am absolutely not a rain runner. I just can’t stand being wet. The weather has been iffy here. We have had some storms come through but they are never more than a few hours and then the sun is back.

  6. The rain has really been a pain recently! Great job getting out there in spite of the rain. I’ve mostly been trying to schedule around it but have not always been successful with that.

  7. ah Michelle, it sucks that the weather has been so bad. ours changed too – I guess I shouldn’t have celebrated a couple weeks ago that spring was really here… although, this is the Netherlands and this IS spring. Psycho weather from 5 min to the next. Today it was sun, overcast, sun, rain, overcast, rain again, sun, rain, hail, overcast. oh and it’s cold. yeah. I actually needed gloves this morning and didn’t have them with me so my fingers were frozen all morning (from being on the bike).

you got in what you could and it is a bummer that your stomach wasn’t having it on Sunday. I hope this new week is a much better week for you.

Hey are you doing the 5K as well in Chicago? Just curious. I signed up last week.

  8. LOL at that Ark meme. And I similarly chuckle when I see Noah Droddy’s social handles.
    Enough already with the rain

  9. It’s been pretty rainy here but if you don’t run in the rain in the UK, you will never run. I only avoid thunderstorms, really. Or hail. Or ice. Hope the stomach settled – a sensible run I think!

  11. Boo to all the rain. Like Wendy said, it’s super cold/wet here as well and we’ve got 5 days of straight up rain in the forecast this week too. I’m over it!

  13. It has been raining a ton here too! I’m just ready for Summer and some sunny weather!!

  14. Rain is the theme of the week it seems!
We had such bad rain and flooding it took me AGES to get to and from work! I think I spent over 2 hours in the car today for my commute which is usually 12-15 min each way.
Glad you were able to get in some miles and fun family time!
Hope the sunshine comes out soon!
