Harborside Half Training Week 2

Happy Sunday!

I swear I blinked and this week went by! I was plagued by a migraine that slowed me down a little this week, but I did my best to get my workouts in. Here’s how the week played out…

Monday  – Migraine hell. I managed to get through the work day, but not much else.

Tuesday – While I was definitely feeling some better, I was pretty sure a run was not the best choice, so I opted for my yoga mat.

Wednesday – It poured rain so I took my 3-mile run to the mill.

Thursday  – I dodged the downpours and got 3 miles done. It was crazy humid, but at least there was cloud coverage. I also got a much-needed needed sports massage after work!

Friday – 60 mins of legwork with the physical therapist. Walking lunges, hamstring curls, glute bridges, single leg squats, and a ton of band work – hello jelly legs!

Saturday – My legs were not feeling it when my alarm went off so I opted to push my run to the afternoon – but the day turned out to be a pretty busy one and the run never happened.

Sunday – 4 miles on the struggle bus. This was a tough run from the first step. The hammy was quiet – I was just feeling off and never found a rhythm. I got to 4 and pulled the plug. Have I mentioned how tired I am of running in the humidity?!

Definitely a mixed bag of a week! On the plus side, my PT was really pleased with where I am and it looks like I could be “graduating” before the month is over. Unfortunately for the second week, I haven’t been able to figure out how to fit in a kickboxing class, and I miss it. And, since I’ll be single parenting it this upcoming week, I’m not holding out much hope for getting to the studio. As it is, I’ll need to be creative to get the runs done.

So that’s a wrap on week 2.

In case you missed it – check out my Fall Race Calendar

Are you still dealing with humidity where you are?

  1. I feel you on the hot weather running. My race recap is coming up and the heat was a factor. Ugh. But other than that, can we have more summer?

    I’m so conflicted.

  2. Sorry about the humidity – it caught my friend Ruth out in the Great East Run in the UK on Sunday, suddenly all hot and horrible again. It’s raining here today and has been OK, here in the Midlands, though.

I find if I put a run off to the afternoon it very often doesn’t happen, so I’m glad I’m not alone in that. Wishing you strong and mighty scheduling skills for next week!

  3. Sorry to hear about your migraine earlier in the week 🙁 I don’t suffer from them, but my sister does and she tells me how painful they are.

I think it’s hard to fit in everything we want to do fitness wise once we start training, but I’m sure you’ll figure it out!

  4. I can’t even imagine how people function with migraines.

I am not at all conflicted about summer. The humidity is driving me insane & I’m really hoping it blows out of here before my next race! The leaves are changing & falling anyway, can’t we have the cool temps to go along with that?

  5. I love summer and hate to see it go. Not a fan of humidity but hate the shorter days worse.

I escaped the rain last week. Barely. Not sure I’ll be that lucky this week. I will not run on the mill.

Migraines are the worst. I used to get them regularly but as I aged, they rarely (knock on wood) happen.

  6. Fingers crossed for you that you can graduate from PT soon! I am sorry about the migraine. I get those too and they are the worst and can sometimes linger into the next day.

  7. while I do not get migraines, I had a small sinus infection last week and it was brutal. Thanks to fall allergies. Still waiting for that humidity to break here too

  8. Yes, our summer came rushing back (humidity and all). I don’t mind it, but I’m sort of on my own island with that LOL Glad to hear your PT is going so well!!!!!

  9. Sorry to hear about the struggles last week 🙁 But that’s great news about the PT going so well!

  10. How wonderful you may be graduating from PT! I’m so glad the therapy did the trick. You really don’t want me to get started with the humidity… It won this year! I cried uncle. Is there some type of modified kick boxing workout you can get on-line to do at home? Thanks for linking!

  11. Hope your migraines ease up. Single parenting and getting to classes is hard. My husband does shift work and is away often so I tend to do lunch time yoga to fit in a class…..when my schedule permits, ha!

  12. The humidity is just disgusting. I am humiliated by how much I sweat when I run (and even go outside). Everything is just constantly wet and sopping. Ew ew ew.

I wish we could get a taste of fall soon.

  13. I was hoping these rain storms would bring us cooler weather, but so far all we’ve gotten is more humidity. So glad your PT is going so well – those exercises are tough but effective.

  14. Sorry about the migraine. Those must suck. I get occular migraines that stop me in my tracks. We had a break in the heat but its back with a vengeance. Makes running brutal.

  15. Nice job with your workouts, even though there were some struggles. I haven’t really been running much since going through PT, but I remember how miserable the heat and humidity can be so I feel for you!

  16. The humidity is the only reason why I’m ready for fall to finally arrive. Otherwise I’d be more than okay with summer sticking around. Can we just enjoy the beautiful sunshine and warmer temps without the humidity crashing the party???
