August runfessions

It’s the last Friday of the month which means Marcia has opened the runfessional, so let’s get to it, shall we?

I runfess that I didn’t last long in the Summer Blowout Challenge my kickboxing studio threw down for the month. While I held it out there as one of my August Goals, I runfess that my body just doesn’t love burpees…check that, my body doesn’t even like burpees. And, with a daily installment of said burpees, it does beg the question…what was I thinking?!

I runfess that the monotony of physical therapy is starting to make me feel a little restless. On the flip side, the work with the PT is paying off, so I’m just gonna suck it up and move on, right? Right.

I returned to the gym this week to avoid the heat and I runfess that some people’s gym-behavior never ceases to amaze me. Can someone explain to me why people insist on talking on their cell phones while on the treadmill (or any machine for that matter!). I sent most of my last run next to a guy who tried to carry on a conversation while attempting to walk/run on the mill. Really the call couldn’t wait?

I runfess that I’ve been wanting to “break-up” with one of my ambassadorships for a couple of months now. I’m not loving the direction they’ve gone with their products and have really come to prefer a competing brand. The ambassador program itself is also lacking and a bit disorganized – I’m not even sure who I should send my resignation email to!

So tell me, got any runfessions to share?

I’m linking up with  Rachel and Meranda and Lacey for the Friday Five.

  1. Burpees. Never done one and I am sure that I would hate them.

Yes, PT does get boring. When I had ankle surgery, I went for like 6 mos.

I hate when people talk on their phones as if they are the only person in the room or on the train, etc.

I have a few ambassadorships that I will not renew next year.

  2. I hate burpees too! Perhaps a necessary evil? I hope you figure out your ambassador dilemma.

  3. Burpees not so much over here either! Kickboxing i do love. i can see how the pT can get boring. I’ve only been going a few weeks and it’s already getting old. It takes up a lot of time too. Glad you are feeling better though

  4. I hate burpees but I only do them when I have to, like in boot camp class, lol.

People at the gym never cease to amaze me with their stupidity. Talking on the phone at the gym is one of my biggest pet peeves!

  5. That would drive me crazy at a gym (BOTH being on a treadmill and having to listen to a neighbor’s conversation). Ugh… what are people thinking???

  6. I’ve broken up with 2 ambassadorships over the years-interestingly, both sock companies! One company gave me the opportunity, which was nice. I wrote to the other company and got a not-so-nice letter in return. Sorry, but I didn’t want to buy their ugly kit and wear it at every race. Lesson learned.

  7. I am so not a burpee fan either. Life’s too short for shoddy ambassador programs. Plenty of them out there, sadly. Enjoy the long weekend!

  8. PT exercises get tedious, but at least going to the PT I usually got some sort of massage, so that was a trade-off I could live with. I think a lot of companies don’t do ambassadorships very well. They don’t understand how much they are asking for and don’t offer much/any support.

Ugh! I’m with you on people on their phone at the gym!! It’s so ridiculous!!

  10. I am not a fan of burpees either! And PT exercises can definitely get boring after awhile. At least they are helping!

  11. I think burpees are evil! I dislike them more than anything! If I am in a group class I do a modified version (basically really slow, or tapping one foot back at a time). I personally don’t see the benefits for me!
PT def can get boring! I am board with my current PT exercises, but I know they are helping me get better.
I have people take phone calls WHILE I am teaching classes! I am like, if it’s an emergency, take the call outside the classroom!!!!

  12. I don’t hate burpees as much as I used to. I just don’t want to do them. Clearly, I’m lazy.

It’s always disappointing when brands don’t honor their ambassadors. We typically do a lot of work for them and if we’re not being compensated with money, it’s nice to have the support of the company. I hope you come to a decision that brings you peace.

  13. haha, I’m not a fan of people talking on their phone in the gym either (this is why I tend to do Gixo at home, hehehe).

Best of luck to you on the ambassador dilemma!

  14. Ok now I really want to know who you’re breaking up with…

At my gym there are signs posted all over that there’s no cell phone use on the gym floor. Kudos to them!
