August 2018 Goals

With no training plan in sight, most of the past week was about spending some quality time with the physical therapist (who introduced dry needling into the mix), grinding out the PT exercises on my own, with a couple of HIIT workouts thrown in for good measure.

There was a lot of time spent stretching and rolling, and I even made it to the massage table. I ran just once and the great news is there was no knee pain! While my hip didn’t feel great, it didn’t feel awful either  – so we’ll take that as a win. It’s all about progress.

So now that August is already off and rolling, it’s time to lay out my monthly goals.

  • Continue daily PT exercises along with weekly visits with the physical therapist
  • Return to running 3 days a week
  • Continue cross-training twice a week (kickboxing and the Arc Trainer)
  • Complete the “Summer Blowout” challenge – designed by the kickboxing trainers – think a crazy mix of sit-ups, push-ups, squats, burpees, etc.
  • Feel ready to start half marathon training by September

What’s your big goal for August?

I’m joining Holly and Wendy for the Weekly Wrap.

  1. I hope you’re able to kick the knee/hip pain for good this month! I suppose my goal is to ramp up miles for marathon training. Itd be nice if it cooled down first. 😛

  6. That summer blowout challenge sounds pretty intense! Yay for no knee pain, and hopefully soon your hip pain will go away too! I’ve been more consistent about working out lately, so my August goals include to keep it up and add more strength training as I move toward the Berlin and Chicago marathons!

  8. YAY for the successful run with a cooperative knee!!!! Now, hopefully the hip will follow suit 😉 You’re doing awesome with your commitment to PT and all the other non-running activity 😉 Keep it up!!

  9. Nice! I hope your knee keeps behaving! Keep with those exercises… it takes time, but it will help. Hope your hips follow suit soon!

  10. Even without a big running goal, you are getting in so much. Your commitment to this recovery has been truly incredible, and you should be proud of your determination. <3

Hang in there. I hope things get better soon.

  11. Hmm. Not awful is a good start — I hope it gets a lot better quickly. I don’t really have goals for August, although we just signed up for a metric century Aug 26 so I need to keep my bike skills up. I’d also like to figure out a new long run schedule — maybe on a weekday?

  12. Snoopy reminds me of my sister. We loved Peanuts as kids. It’s great to hear you are progressing with the PT. I plan to use this month to re-boot, concentrating more on pre-hab and cross training. My hip has been cranky for a while and needs more weeks of lesser mileage.

  13. Do you feel sore after dry needling?

  14. I just came off of 7 months of PT. Its so repetitive but it so helpful. Hope you are back to what you love to do soon. Your August goals seem like just what you need.

  15. PT is never fun, but def helpful to deal with nagging issues!
I hope you continue to heal and are ready to rock your upcoming training!

  16. My goal is to start marathon training and to stay injury free!

  17. Yes! I hope your knee pain and issues stay away. My current goals are to start re-upping my running mileage, to keep up with crossfit and to get out on my bike more!

  18. I love dry needling. I swear by it. It’s magic!!

good goals Michelle! The summer blow out sounds fun and challenging! I have zero goals. Oh wait I know 1) get through my marathon training without heat stroke and dehydration and 2) don’t gain weight from carb loading!

  19. Glad to hear that knee is feeling better. Hopefully you’ll be back to half marathon training in no time. Have you considered pool running? I’m an avid believer now that it got me through that last full marathon!

  20. I hope the pain goes away soon! The summer blowout challenge sounds pretty intense–I need to work on my cross-training (or just training consistently)!

  21. I hope that your pain is able to be resolved ASAP! Dealing with pain is never any fun, and I know that you’re eager to get your half training underway.
