Five Things Over February coffee

And just like that the first month of 2024 is in the rearview mirror and we’re welcoming in February. For this week’s Fit Five Friday, as we roll into the first weekend of the month, I’m joining Coco and Deborah for the Ultimate Coffee Date. So grab a mug of something hot and let’s chat.

Five Things Over February Coffee

Over coffee, I would ask you how was your January? I feel like the first 31 days of the year flew and despite my best efforts to slow things down, a lot of the time I felt like I was hurling along on a runaway train. It was not a bad month just a bit more hectic than I would have liked. My goal for February is to hopefully pump the breaks a bit.

Over coffee, I would tell you how fun it has been over the past few weeks to watch the college acceptances roll in for my highschooler. The college application process can be a brutal one, so it’s been wonderful to see his anxiety lessen as he’s received good news. It’s great to have options that you’re excited about and I cannot wait to see where he lands.

Over coffee, I would tell you that thanks to my oh so long commutes to the office lately (why is there so much traffic?!?), I have been embracing audiobooks. I am currently listening to Cicely Tyson’s memoir, Just As I Am — what an amazing woman.

Over coffee, I would tell you that we’ve had a bit of a restaurant boom in my town which is helping me with my goal of more connection as I happily fill my calendar with dinner and brunch dates with friends. It’s great to support the local economy and the food has been so good 🙂

Over coffee, I would of course want to update you on my home renovation. After framing the addition and reconfiguring walls, this month will be all about putting things back together. One bath vanity was just delivered and the other vanity and the kitchen cabinets will be here by the end of the month. Things continue to roll along – my mantra is “if there’s pounding, there’s progress!”

How was your January? What would you tell me over coffee?

  1. January was better than December. I can run. My hubby is healthy. We have a new cat.

That’s exciting about college acceptances. Soon to be an empty nester?

Renovations are stressful. I bet you’ll be happy when it’s over.

  2. “If there’s pounding, there’s progress.” I love it!!! That’s a great perspective:-)I have mixed feelings on January…it really dragged on, especially with those two weeks of extreme weather, but it’s weird to think we’re already in February. Huh.

  3. I like your positive attitude about the renovation chaos — so true!

Congrats to your son. What a relief to have that stress dialed down.

We are in such a restaurant run — there are a handful of places we rotate through.

  4. Oh gosh I remember the pounding so well! I think I took videos of it when they were replacing our floors. The house literally shook. It’ll be worth it though! The college acceptance process is so exciting. Having good options on the table really boosts their confidence!

  5. You seem like you are in a great place with the home Reno and your son’s college status. Can’t wait to hear how it al turns out!

  6. I’m not really sure how you’re surviving- home renovations are hard and yours has been going on a long time! But the end result will be worth it.
Yay for college acceptances!!! The whole process is SO stressful- I’m glad things are working out and I can’t wait to hear where he ends up. I’ll echo Darlene- you’ll be an empty nester next year? You’ll have to tell us how that goes! I’m gearing myself up for that (I still have a few years, but I don’t think I’ll be ready!)

  7. My January dragged – too many gray and/or frozen days – LOL.

Congrats on the acceptances! Any decisions?

I love audiobooks for commuting (and running!)

  8. January definitely flew by! I hope to get more done this month, hehe.

Best of luck to your son for college decision-making! It’s a nerve-wracking time for sure, but yay for options!

I’ve definitely been embracing audiobooks for my commute too! Boooooo on the traffic (though because of that, I guess I get to “read”/listen a lot!).

  9. we’re still trying to get our reno project off the ground but knowing that yours is humming along gives me hope!

I’ve been thinking about audio books lately. I’m a little bored with music, not sure why.

when do you think your high schooler will be making some decisions?

  10. I can’t believe your youngest son will be heading to college! How?! Very exciting.

I love going to restaurants so that’s great you’ve got some new options and opportunities to catch up with friends.

I’ll have to add Cicely’s book to my list…I’ve been wanting to get back to more reading in February!

  11. January was a long month. Plus, it was cold and cloudy. How exciting about your son’s acceptance letters! I love that mantra and your attitude about the home renovations.

  12. January was the longest month ever! I couldn’t believe how long it went on.

I am excited to hear about final college decisions! That has to be so cool! What fun times for parents and kids.

I also can’t wait to see your renos! We are redoing our laundry room (against my will), so I get it.

  13. Congratulations to your high schooler!
I’ve been all about the audio books since September. Anything to read more. Boo on traffic!
