First Coffee of New Year

Happy Friday!

Oh my goodness while it was a short work week coming off the holiday break it has felt oh so long – why is that always the case? I’m more than ready for the weekend! I’m kicking off the first Fit Five Friday of 2024 by linking up with Coco and Deborah for the Ultimate Coffee Date. So let’s chat.

First Coffee of the New Year

Over coffee, I would tell you that I took the final 10 days of the year off from work and thoroughly enjoyed the downtime. Despite having to pack up the kitchen and other spaces before the demo, the days were lazy and relaxed. Just what I needed!

And speaking of demo, over coffee I would tell you that renovation life continues, and dare I say things are going relatively smoothly. Our kitchen officially bit the dust yesterday, but I am excited to see the new spaces taking shape.

Over coffee, I would tell you that one of the upsides of packing for this renovation has been the purging. Given that I have gone declutter binges before, I’m a little shocked at how much we’ve still been able to throw out or donate. It’s been very freeing.

Over coffee, I would tell you that the new Fit Five Friday calendar is up and ready to go! As always, you can write about whatever fitness topic strikes your fancy. We had a lot of fun with the suggested topics for 2023 so decided we would give it another go – of course, we’re still planning to continue to link up for both coffee and Marcia‘s Runfessions – I hope you will join us!

What would you tell me over coffee?

  1. I’m slowly easing into a major purge myself. A lot of stuff has already “but the dust” as well, but I’ve barely scratched the surface. Living in a big house has its perks, but it’s a Catch-22 with all the unnecessary goods that get buried in the storage space, LOL. I agree… I’ve had two 3-day work weeks, and they feel like “full” weeks at the office, especially with all the end-of-year paperwork & details.

  2. That’s so nice that you got time off.

I decluttered a lot when I redid the kitchen. I need to do the rest iof the house.

  3. Your kitchen renovation s so exciting! Decluttering everything is hard to do but worth it. I have my pantry on my mind this weekend but I am overwhelmed on where to start. Happy new year Michelle

  4. Short weeks always feel longer to me. It doesn’t make sense!

I remember when my kitchen looked like that! It was fun to see the daily progress.

I tried to do some purging in December, but there’s always more stuff!

  5. Oh, GOOD LUCK with the kitchen!!! How long is it supposed to take? We found it very hard to live without a functioning kitchen, but we kept reminding ourselves how worth it it would be in the end.
I think it’s hard to go back to work after a break- that’s probably why the week felt so long. I’m glad you had a nice vacation though!!!

  6. Space abhors a vacuum. 🙂 Just sayin’. 🙂 Glad the reno is going smoothly!

Just met with a new pet sitter for Bandit and now we have someplace to finally get rid of all the old dog clothes that do not fit Bandit, since our previous dogs were almost half his size. I’m so excited some lucky dogs will get these!

  7. Oh wow! I didn’t realize that the renovation was that extensive! I’ve been trying to declutter and give away things and one of my intentions for the year is to buy less! Can’t wait to see the finished renovation!

  8. Aww, yay! I’m glad you had a nice break! I’m excited to see what your kitchen’s gonna look like too! :]

I really need to work on decluttering, but it’s been so, so hectic lately. Hopefully in the next couple weekends, I can make some semblance of a dent… Hoping to pop into more of the Fit Five Friday topics this year! :]

  9. That is exciting about the renovation! How will it take? It is amazing how much stuff we accumulate.

  10. Happy New Year and Happy First Coffee of the new year! Purging is my jam! I can’t wait to get in the mental space to start attacking some of the areas that bother me most.

  11. 10 days off at the end of the year sounds DIVINE! Glad you were able to do that!

I’m excited to see how your kitchen turns out! We are also doing some remodelling this year… thanks to two shattered windows in our sun room that have to be replaced and finding out that the structure is not sound… why not do the whole back of the house then? *laughs hysterically*. Decluttering is awesome though, isn’t it!

Here’s to a great new year of Fit Five Fridays amongst other things!
