Coffee Chat – Labor Day Edition

Happy Friday!

Today kicks off an extra long weekend as my office is closed today for our last “Summer Friday” of the season! I’m ready to kick back and relax and what better way to start off a long weekend than with a catch-up over coffee with friends? So for this week’s Fit Five Friday, I’m joining Coco and Deborah for the Ultimate Coffee Date. Grab your favorite beverage – I’ve got an iced coffee — let’s chat.

Coffee Chat – Labor Day Edition

Over coffee, I would tell you that my house is a sea of samples – cabinet doors, tile, countertop, paint, flooring, etc. We’re getting closer to finalizing our kitchen design and appliances have been ordered!

Over coffee, I would tell you that I decided to start a new Instagram account (MyRenoAdventures) to help keep a photo journal of the renovation process.

Over coffee, I would tell you that with school starting next week, I’m looking forward to settling back into the rhythm of the Fall. While these last few weeks of summer have been fun, I’m craving some routine.

Over coffee, I would tell you that I didn’t realize just how much vacation time I still have for this year until I got a call from our HR manager. She was actually concerned that I hadn’t taken more time off! Honestly between the hectic pace through most of the Spring and getting my team in place (interviewing and then onboarding) it’s been hard to see where to take days off. Looks like I’ll be enjoying some additional time off during the fall!

What would you tell me over coffee?

  1. Gee, I wish someone would make me take a vacation! I have so many little business trips this fall, they will put me far enough behind on my other work.

I love the samples you posted above. I know it’s hard to tell in pics, but those cabinets look similar to what we went with (a dark blue-grey) and I still love them!

    • If I don’t the PTO I’ll lose it – we can only carry 5 days. The challenge for me is there’s such a busy fall on deck at the office and I’m not sure I can afford the time out.

  2. Can you give me some of your vacation time? I don’t get much and take every day.

Good idea. I wish I documented my kitchen Reno more. It’s so much work.

Good luck. I’ll have to folliw it in UG

  3. I love your samples! Have fun with your Reno! Extra vacation days sound fab-where will you go?

  4. That’s a great phone call to get!!

I’ll check out your renovation account. That tile is really pretty.

  5. That’s great news on the vacation time!! I’m gonna check out your Reno page on Insta…I love following that kind of stuff 🙂

  6. Ha ha! I wish my boss would tell me to take more time off.
I can’t wait to see your new kitchen design. Yours is probably fancier than ours. We went with mostly white but at the last minute decided to add some color with the backsplash. Have fun with the renovation (sarcasm.) You will be eating a lot of takeout!

  7. That’s really awesome that you must take more time off!

Renovations are always tough, but always worth it in the end. Keep your eye on the prize!

  8. Ooo, excited to see what it looks like when you’re done!! Best of luck with the process!

I’m supposed to zero out my vacation days this year so your post is kinda a reminder to self that I need to see how many I have left that I still need to take, haha. Enjoy our time off in the fall! :]

  9. All the best with the reno! It’s stressful but so worth it! How great to have extra vacation days. I used a full 3 weeks this summer and I know I don’t have more. Sigh.

    • Having our office closed the week of July 4th plus the summer Fridays really helps to stretch our vacation time. I’m sure I’ll end up spending a few of the remaining days on fall college visits lol.

  10. So I assume your plans got approved for the addition? So exciting that you are finally moving forward!!!

Yay for having lots of vacation time! When you go to Minnesota, are you going to take some extra time?

    • I cannot wait to get started on this reno – I feel like I’ve been talking about it forever lol.

No extra time in Minn. – I’ve got a big presentation for work early in the following week 🙁

  11. I also love routine and one of the reasons I was excited to get back to work. The actual work? Nope. 🙂 I wish more companies would offer their employees’ vacation days to roll over. In a way it is good that you are “forced” to take time off but sometimes it isn’t always possible.

  12. Girl! Book some vacay!

that sounds like the best problem to have!

I hope your kitchen reno goes smoothly!

  13. That’s the kind of call from HR I love! LOL! Hope you’re able to take some of those days. If possible, you could add them to a few weekends to make for a long weekend here and there! Good luck with the reno process – lots of work but so exciting!

    • You’re so right about creating some long weekends – that’s probably going to be my best bet for working in some extra time off. And, who doesn’t love a long weekend?!
