Enjoying a Mid-Year Break

I’m soaking up the final day of a 9-day break from all things work-related! My office has an org-wide shutdown for the week of July 4th so I’ve been blissfully logged off my computer since end-of-day June 30th! I runfess that leading up to the time off my fuse was getting a little short – so this mid-year break couldn’t have come at a better time! I’ve used this staycation to catch up with friends and family, do some remodel-related shopping, read, lounge on the deck (when the humidity would allow), and generally just recharge.

And yes, of course, there were workouts – here’s a quick peek into how this week in fitness played out.

Enjoying a Mid-Year Break

Monday — 3 miles. My youngest decided to join me – so fun!

Tuesday — 1.5-mile walk, Upper Body Strength & Core
Wednesday — Rest day – I was feeling super lazy so I embraced it and spent the day reading and lounging. No regrets!
Thursday — 3 miles & Core
Friday — 2.5-mile walk, Lower Body Strength & Core
Saturday — 6 miles. The humidity was absolutely soul-sucking – this was definitely a character-building run

A sweaty mess at the halfway mark!

Sunday — Yoga and Hip mobility work

This weekend marks 12 weeks until the TC 10M. It feels good to be starting this training cycle already at 6 miles for my long run – I can ramp up gradually taking the weather and my upcoming vacation time into account. I plan to stick to running 3 days a week so I’ll also start to add a bit more to my weekday runs. I also just picked up a pretty new yoga mat which I hope will inspire me to get in at least 1 yoga session a week to complement my daily stretching and hip mobility work.

How was your week? Are you training for a race?

I’m linking up with Deborah and Kim for the Weekly Run Down.

  1. Sounds like you’re in a really good place & the “vacation” was just what the dr ordered. It’s nice not to feel a huge amount of pressure for a race, isn’t it?

  2. a break from work sounds amazing. FOMO.
My big race is in 17 week s. My base was 6 too but as you said, this humidity is no joke!!

  3. I’d love a staycation like you had! Love the pic of you and your son…I bet that was a fun run!! Our humidity took a bit of a plummet a few days ago (along with the “summer” temps), but I can tell it’s inching back up today. As you know, I’ll take that over snow, any day, LOL

  4. A nine-day break- I’m envious! But I know you were really stressed out leading up to it, so you need it. Sounds like you spent your time perfectly. I like how you spent Wednesday “reading and lounging.” I love my workouts, but I love my rest days too!

  5. How fun to have a 9-day staycation (and Wednesday sounds like the best day of all)! 😉

  6. So nice that you were able to take some real time off and spend some time with your kids. That humidity is pretty soul sucking isn’t it? I dream of October mornings 🙂

  7. Yay on your vacation — and you son’s interest in running!

It sounds like you are in a very good place for that 10M — I’m jealous!

  8. So excited for you to run MN 10 miler. I didn’t realize that anything less than a marathon was an option or else I would have done the same thing as you!

I love that your son joined you on your run!

    • Thanks Wendy – I’m looking forward to it. We should have compared notes on the Brooks races – it would have been fun to do this one together.

  9. I am in full support of vacations and staycations. I’m glad you got some time to do yourself and your family! Love that your son joined you on the run! Mine will go to the gym, but has no interest in running with me.

    • I was surprised he wanted to go along with me – it was fun. He’s not much for early runs so we’ll see if he joins me again any time soon lol

  10. I love that we can be 10M training buddies. I’m just a week before
That break sounds perfect. What are you reading? ANy recommendations?
LOve that your son made your shirt a thing.

  11. aren’t staycations the best? though I was told by several people if I didn’t really “stay” then it was a vacation haha. Ok fair enough, I was away for 2 days 🙂 I am in week 3 now of Half Marathon training. My kingdom for a 10miler though… I just can’t seem to let go of these long distances! I’m doing a real basic beginner program because it’s too frustrating otherwise – my weight is unfortunately keeping me very slow. My aim is to finish. You however are going to rock it – you’re already well on your way with training!

    • I’m glad you got some time off too! That’s great that you’ve got a half marathon on the horizon – when is your race? I do love 10 milers – there are far too few of them in my opinion. Thanks for the good vibes 🙂 Best of luck with your training – finishing is winning in my opinion!

  12. How great that your company takes the week off! It always feels so great to get projects done and just relax around the house. I keep putting things off telling myself I will clean it/fix it/organize it when the kids are both in college this fall. We’ll see how that goes! haha
