December Coffee – The last coffee of 2022

I swear once we hit Thanksgiving it always feels like a sprint to the end of the year. Well, I’m doing all I can to slow down and enjoy this last month of the year, and that begins with a little catch-up over coffee with Deborah and Coco for the Ultimate Coffee Date. And, of course, since it’s Friday, it’s also time for the Fit Five Friday link-up! So grab a mug of your fave hot beverage and let’s chat.

December Coffee — The Last Coffee of 2022

Over coffee, I would tell you that I’m looking forward to breaking out the Christmas decorations this weekend. My husband still insists on getting a real tree so we’ll wait on getting one right now for fear that it will be a fire hazard before Christmas – but we will take care of all of the lights and all of the outdoor decorations, along with most of the indoor stuff.

And, speaking of Christmas, over coffee I would also share that I am really struggling with gift ideas this year. By now I usually have some inkling of what I’m getting everyone, but this year I’ve got bupkis. I’m trying not to panic.

Over coffee, I would tell you that I’m really looking forward to my son’s school concert next week! It’s been more than two years since the school has hosted a concert and in that time my son has switched from the trumpet to the drums – a much better fit for his personality! The drummer is always spotlighted in these performances and I can’t wait to see him perform.

Over coffee, I would tell you that we had a fantastic trip to Sonoma last month! And, we’re still enjoying the effects of the trip as shipments of wine continue to arrive. Clearly, we were enjoying ourselves because we didn’t fully remember what we had ordered LOL. Now the question is what do you do when you have more wine than you have wine rack space?

What would you tell me over coffee? What are you looking forward to this month?

  1. We don’t have any decorations up yet either–i really do like to wait until the calendar turns, at least! We’re going to tackle it this weekend. And by we, I mean me, lol

I guess when you have too much wine to store, you have to drink it, lol! What a great problem to have.

  2. I’ve begun to remove my fall decor but I runfess it’s sitting all over the kitchen counter because I haven’t retrieved the storage been…or I’ve acquired so much new stuff maybe I don’t have a bin…not sure. Haha! Enjoy all that wonderful wine! How fun!

  3. I put our tree up last weekend because it was then or December 18, and I figured by then I might not bother! That is one advantage of having an artificial tree.

Enjoy that concert—I am sure it will be extra special this year.

Nice to get those shipments of wine. We did a subscription for two years starting in the pandemic and have a lot of catching up to do!

  4. Wow on all the wine! it will make the holidays bright. 🙂

We don’t exchange gifts in general in our family (again, Jewish — and no young kids).

I hope you have a relaxing holiday season!

  5. I managed (ahem, emphasis on the I) to get our trees up last weekend. They’re all beautifully lit, but the ornaments are still in-waiting, LOL. But, from the street, everything looks finished 😉 I’m going to tackle most of the remaining decs this weekend. My kids usually just want money or gift cards anymore, but the son and youngest daughter asked about me making them “ugly” sweaters with their collegiate colors. Well, I bought the yarn and have been sketching out some patterns, but it’ll be a major stretch to get them done before Christmas. Too bad all that excess wine is at your house and not mine 😉

  6. It is fun to see all the wine coming in from the drunken tastings! Have fun with your holiday shopping I have no doubt you will figure it out!

  7. Ha, that’s funny- you had a few glasses of wine and can’t remember what you ordered? So now you have some fun surprises coming in the mail. Any chance you could give some of them as Christmas gifts?
One of my daughter’s holiday concerts was last night (they have several.) The holiday concerts are my favorites, and this was the last one of middle school (sniff, sniff.). Enjoy your son’s- yes, the percussion parts are fun. My daughter plays the flute which honestly I can hardly hear- but that’s okay. I can see her up there.

  8. Too much wine is a good problem.

With a new cat the tree will not happen this year.

Not buying too many gifts. I think we will just do things together.

  9. Hi there, I’m new to the linkup. 🙂
That must be lovely to see your son perform in that concert – especially since it’s been so long!
I haven’t really taken out any Christmas decorations yet, only the electric Scandinavian Advent lights (there certainly is a shorter word for this!). Perhaps I should start pimping our house too.
Wow – about your wine parcels! That must be nice. Now you need to redecorate one of your rooms as a wine cellar!
We used to drive to Italy (when we lived in Sweden) and then brought home a lot of olive oil and wine, but one year we were in a car accident and had to fly home, and the owner of our accommodation helped us send the oil and wine to us – it arrived months after so it was a nice surprise, I barely remembered either what we had bought!

  10. What fun stuff in this post! We went to Napa (years ago!) and we also had wine shipped back. Great memories, and a great souvenirs! That’s so exciting to hear your son perform – and switched instruments? Percussionists get to do so much in the band. Cool!

  11. hahaha, I love that graphic. 😛 No decorations this year–I’m actually gonna be gone for the later half of December so we kinda didn’t bother — we’re hoping to get a tree + actually decorate next year though!

I’m terrible with gift-giving and have been asking for wishlists so I know that they’ll definitely like what I’m giving em’.

  12. Hi! I found your blog through this coffee talk link up.

That does look like a great and festive haul from Sonoma. Wonderful!

This weekend I hope to put up a few decorations but I’m not quite ready to undertake the tree yet. Maybe next weekend. Love that some e-cards meme – hilarious.

The Christmas-gift panic is real! I feel good about a couple of people on my list, but have bought NOTHING for a few others yet. They all live far from me, too, so I have to really get on top of ordering and wrapping and sending off to their homes. I hope it will all get done in time!

  13. My anxiety can’t take the live trees anymore. I am terrified of fire. And things dry out so fast in Florida. No, thanks.

We have our first concert of high school this week, and i’m stoked! It’s going to be great.

Yay for wine shipments. I need to get back on a plane.

  14. No decorations here for me. I have a little tree and the cats manage to knock that one down. Too funny about the wine! I guess now you have to drink it all since there is no space for it.
