Recovery Mode

November has been a fun month…and I’ll freely admit that I’m tired! After 3 straight weekends of being on the road, it has felt so nice to be at home this weekend. My workouts this week were intentionally minimal as I shifted into recovery mode.

Week 47 – Recovery Mode

Monday — While I’m usually a proud card-carrying member of the #nevermissamonday club, I took a pass on working out. My hip flexor was letting me know just how much it hadn’t appreciated being pushed during Sunday’s race. So I took a rest day…I didn’t even plank for Planksgiving…no regrets.
Tuesday — 2-mile walk, Core (including planks), & Yoga.
Wednesday — Peloton Bike, Core with planking, & Stretch. It’s been quite a while since I’ve done any indoor cycling! I’m grateful that riding doesn’t bother the flexor so I have a feeling I’ll be doing quite a bit in the coming weeks.
Thursday — 3-mile of virtual running with friends! Grateful for the connections running has brought into my life.

Thanks to Cari for organizing!

Friday — Rest day with Planksgiving. Yep, a second rest day…it was rainy and cold and a lazy day with the family, hanging on the couch reading and checking out the online deals seemed like a good plan. Giving my body what it needs.
Saturday — 2.1-mile walk, Upper Body Strength, & Core (with planking).
Sunday — 3-mile run, Planking & Stretch.

Now that my races are done, I’m looking forward to settling into a new routine with rehabbing the hip as the main focus – there will be mobility work, time on the bike, and yes, some easy running.

So tell me, are you training for something, in maintenance mode, or somewhere in between?

I’m linking up with Kim and Deborah for the Weekly Run Down.

  1. Looks like a nice restful week! I need to check out some of the new mobility classes on Peloton, have you tried any of those yet? We should coordinate a virtual ride some day!

  2. Happy Thanksgiving! It looks like you had a lovely week and listened to your body 🙂

Cari did a great job on the collage!

  3. You’ve been super busy recently. It’s always smart to listen to your body and I’m sure your hip flexor appreciated the rest.

  4. Yeah, a cold rainy Friday spent lazily reading on the couch sounds pretty amazing. I would have taken a rest day as well!
I hope the hip flexor improves with your rehab plan. Good thing the cycling doesn’t bother it- you can focus on that for a while. Good luck with it!

Hope you can rehab your hip and be back to racing next year.

I have a 15k this coming weekend and then my next big one isn’t until Feb. No pains so I plan to keep up with my running and I hope he weather cooperates.

  6. Smart runner! I need to do a little bit more mobility work and rehab. We’re wrapping up our heavy strength cycle, so that will be a good time to step back a bit.

No races for me until that Frozen Gnome 10k in January.

  7. We also had a lot of travel and it caught up with me this week too. I would say I am in maintenance mode but doing the run challenge to keep things interesting. Hope you had a great Thanksgiving

  8. Super smart to take those rest days this week!

I think we got all your rain from Friday today. It was cold and pouring rain for most of the afternoon. It was the perfect time to finish all of our Christmas decorations.

  9. Sorry your hip flexor flared up after your race. Mine isn’t happy and I’ve hardly been running — so unfair!

Spending the next few weeks on rehab sounds like a good plan.

  10. Yup, sometimes our bodies speak to us. Good thing that you’re listening!

I’m in maintenance. Nothing on the horizon for a long time & Winter running isn’t always easy.
