Hello September

I know we’re not at the official end of summer yet, but there was a noticeable shift in the weather towards the end of the week just as September rolled in. While I will never be one to wish days away (time really does fly by far too fast), I’m not at all mad about inching closer to fall weather.

I’m linking up with Kim and Deborah for the Weekly Run Down. Here’s how the week in workouts played out.

Week 35 – Hello September

Monday – Peloton Bike, Upper Body Strength, Core & Stretch. The weekend of travel and college move-in finally caught up with me so I kept my #nevermissamonday streak going with a quick and easy workout. I also had my first appointment with my new acupuncturist!
Tuesday – 3-mile run & Stretch. The humidity was just stupid thick, but surprisingly the run wasn’t terrible.

Wednesday – Rest day
Thursday – 2.5-mile walk, Lower body strength, Core & Stretch. I stacked a couple of Glutes & Legs classes along with some core, and have to admit halfway through Daniel’s class I was questioning my choices LOL (It was challenging and I’ll definitely be repeating it!)

Friday – 4-mile run & Stretch. Yeah, I definitely felt yesterday’s workout – my legs did not want to move uphill. But it was a beautiful and cool morning (see the photo in the header) so that was a win! And, since I had the day off, I followed it up with another acupuncture appointment.
Saturday – 2-mile walk, Upper Body Strength, Core & Stretch.
Sunday – 5-mile run and lots of foam rolling.

September Goal Setting

Of the 5 goals I had set for August, the one I came up short on was building up to 8-mile long runs. I didn’t run longer than 4, because August was oh so August weather-wise. Sorry, not sorry. Thankfully with no races until November there’s more than enough time to stretch these runs.

So for September, the goals are short and simple:

  • Build my long runs to 8 miles
  • Complete a 30-day #OptOutside streak
  • Continue my daily stretch/foam rolling

How was your week? Any goals for September?

  1. We had a brief break in the weather September 1, but it’s pretty summery today.

You’ve got some good goals from September. I’m going to keep striving for balance and keeping up with my stretching.

  2. Daniel does bring it on those glute classes! Nice runs this week for you. Daily stretching always feels good to me too,

  3. Nice work on your running this month. The heat sure does make it tough to accomplish much! Now I’m trying to figure out how I’m going to get ready for my October half.

  4. Well I went 6 then 8 so yeah you can build it quickly (when you’re experienced like you are, that is). I plan to repeat the 8 miles next week and then probably jump to 10 — which will be the first double digit run in like forever!

Hope the new acupuncturist is giving you some relief!

  5. Well, that’s what you get for taking an advanced strength class! : ) I usually stick to the intermediate ones. Yes, August is a hard month to do long runs. September should be better! But overall it sounds like you did great with your August goals.

    • I like to throw some of the advanced classes every now and then. I really like the way Daniel programs his classes – I’ve bookmarked this one to try again…just not before a run day 😉

  6. My glutes are aching just thinking about that class. Ouchie! Nice job though! All the best increasing your mileage this month. As soon as the heat dies down it’ll become so much easier. That’s what I tell myself anyway! Haha!

  7. You’ve got great goals for September and I don’t think you have anything to worry about by by pushing the 8-mile distance goal to September.

My glutes feel your pain after my lunges on Thursday. 😉 Thankfully, they’re all better now.

  8. HA! I took that glutes/legs class of Daniels a couple weeks ago, and I know EXACTLY what went down in those 10 minutes (and I had the DOMS to prove it)!

  9. Oh my comment never “took”. Well done on a good week. My distance has vanished, too, so I’ll share that goal of yours for September. Also need to work on my strength now I’m helping push my friend in her wheelchair!

  10. Oh, I’ll have to try that Daniel class, but advanced with him sounds scary! No wonder you were sore the next day. Sounds like you’ll have time to build up to 8 miles still. Summer running isn’t easy, I’m excited for fall as well!

  11. I need to get my runs up there, too. Let’s do this!

How is acupuncture going for you?

  12. Daniel’s strength classes are so good! I’m glad he’s back on the schedule after his shoulder injury.

Love your goals for September – I know you can do it!

  13. Wouldn’t you know it – it was hot and sunny on Saturday (and I was at the Fair), and now that I’m home on Sunday and Monday, it’s cloudy and rainy. So much for an end of the summer pool day! I have really slacked on strength work completely with my marathon training. I actually miss feeling sore from doing strength work. Maybe that will be my September goal! I don’t blame you on the longer runs. Fall running will feel so much better!
