Summer Running in Full Effect

In a blink of an eye, June is in the rearview mirror. As the month wound down, the temps definitely dialed up, and there’s no doubt now that summer running is in full effect. Here’s a quick look at how the week’s workouts played out.

Week 26 — Summer Running in Full Effect

Monday — 3-mile walk, otherwise rest
Tuesday — 2-mile walk & Bodyweight strength (upper & lower body)
Wednesday — 3.5-mile run, Core & Stretch
Thursday — 3-mile walk, Lower Body Strength, & Stretch
Friday —  3.5-mile run, Core & Stretch
Saturday — 2.5-mile walk, Upper Body Strength & Stretch
Sunday — 4-mile run, Core & Stretch

Overall, it was a pretty low-key week. I finished the month with 94 run/walk miles and I’m closing in on the century mark for my #Optoutside streak. Thursday’s strength training brought a return to heavy lifting (and some serious DOMS!) which will definitely be a focus for the summer. I have no summer race plans and am still debating my fall options, so for now, the goal is to focus on the things that will help to keep me strong and injury-free.

Tell me about your week? Any summer race plans?

  1. Great month, Michele!

Enjoy your time off this month!

  2. That is a great month of miles! I feel like I slacked off a touch with the travel and the heat. Enjoy your time off the next few weeks

  3. Nice miles Michelle! I’m definitely living the DOMS life these days with all my strength training.

    Enjoy the holiday weekend!

  4. I love your Opt Outside streak. I pretty much exclusively walk and run outside, so I guess I’m right there with you!

I don’t have any races planned. I was going to run in a 5K on Monday, but changed my mind. I’d rather run on the beach.

  5. Awesome job on closing out June with 90+ miles!

You already know my hatred for summer running – I’m just hanging out and waiting for September to come, lol.

    • I’m right there with you on the summer running! If we could just go from an extended Spring to an extended Fall I’d be so happy LOL 😉

  6. Great miles, well done! I have bought a book about being strong through the menopause which I think will have some lifting, so will need to start waving my pretty light weights around in preparation. Necessary, though, I’m sure!

  7. Great job on the opt outside streak! Very impressive.

  8. Great job getting those miles done. Esp in the summer.

I do have a race tomorrow. A fun. 4 miler.

    Enjoy your holiday weekend.

  9. I’m focusing on strength this summer as well. I think it’s the only way for me to (hopefully) run injury free. I can’t say I’m doing “heavy” lifting, but I’m doing Peloton classes with 15 lb dumbells, which seems heavy to me right now.
Great job for June! I do have some summer race plans (starting with a 5K tomorrow) but here our summer lasts from May- November… so I might as well suck it up and get used to it.
    Enjoy your holiday!

    • I definitely think strength training is the key to staying injury-free. Let me know if you find any Pelo classes you really like – I’ve been enjoying Daniel and Rad’s classes lately.

      Hope your 5K was fun!

  10. You’re totally rocking the #OptOutside streak! Great job on all those miles and workouts, too. We’ve been DOMS’ing together 😉

  11. I think getting outside as much as possible is the best way to make the most of a fleeting summer season. Nice work Michelle!

  12. Quiet can be good, especially with the amount of work you’ve been doing!

No races on tap here. Summer racing has never been a favorite of mine. I would’ve like to do the July 4th race but no way to swing it with going to my mom. We have to leave before the race starts & I don’t have a time machine, LOL!

  13. We were almost mileage twins. Go us!
90 tomorrow and 75 Thursday. I literally cannot
Going to message you and Kim so we can find a central fall race
