Five Things Over June Coffee

We’re on the cusp of the weekend again – the beauty of a short work week! So it’s time for another edition of Fit Five Friday! And, since it’s the first weekend of the month, I’m joining Coco and Deborah for the Ultimate Coffee Date. It’s rainy and cool this morning so I’m sticking with a mug of hot coffee. Let’s chat!

Five Things Over Coffee

Adventures in Gardening

Over coffee, I would share that all of my work in the garden is starting to pay off! I had completely redesigned one section of my garden last summer and it’s nice to see the Peonies, and Roses already blooming so well.

Over coffee, I would also share that I had some interesting wildlife encounters in the garden lately. There’s a bunny who visits, but I have yet to catch it on film. Then there’s the large snapping turtle who thought one of my front beds would be a good spot to lay her eggs (my husband the honors of returning the turtle to the pond down the road from our house.) And, then there was the snake coiled around the base of one of the rose bushes. We’ve yet to catch him and I’ve stopped wearing flip-flops in the garden…enough said!

Vacation Planning

Over coffee, I would tell you that my husband and I are trying to decide where we want to go on vacation to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary this fall. Do we head to the Caribbean? Paris? Barcelona? Napa or Sonoma Valley? Other suggestions?

Could we end up in Barcelona this fall?

Streaming Obsession

Over coffee, I would tell you that my latest streaming obsession is “We Crashed”, which follows the true story of the rise and fall of WeWork. Jared Leno and Anne Hathaway were both so good! We recently finished the last episode. It was a good drama made better by the fact that it was based on a true story!

Basketball fever!

Over coffee, I would tell you that I am so excited to have the Boston Celtics back in the NBA Finals. I love the buzz in the city when one of our teams is in the hunt for a championship! And it doesn’t hurt that they won game 1!

What would you tell me over coffee?

  1. I said it yesterday: I wish I loved gardening! I finally planted my flowers. I love how they look, but I don’t love the actual process, lol. Which explains why our backyard garden is full of weeds. I promise to pull them this weekend.

We just finished watching The Gilded Age and Hacks and started The Staircase. I’ll have to check out We Crashed!
    Wendy recently posted…Coffee TalkMy Profile

    • Too funny about the gardening. There’s something oddly therapeutic in the process for me.

I’ve heard a lot about The Gilded Age, but I don’t know Hacks or The Staircase. I’ll have to check them out!

  2. Oooh, I’d love to see your garden in person! My peonies just started blooming this week, too. That’s exciting about the Celtics! Fingers crossed they continue their winning streak 🙂

  3. Deborah Brooks says

Well I am going to vote for Barcelona or Rome bc Italy and yummy food and wine. Sonoma and Napa are also amazing.
Your garden is beautiful I am not talented in that way and I kill my plants

    • Oh yes I loved Rome…all of Italy really. I’ve never been to Spain though…and I agree I love California wine country!

The crazy thing about the garden is I can’t grow a thing indoors – my houseplants always die lol!

  4. Your flowers look so lovely! Yikes on the snake though. That would scare me for sure!

I vote for Barcelona, I haven’t been but friends who have always rave about it.

    Thanks for the streaming rec!

    • I’m sure the snake is harmless but it completely unnerved me!

Let me know if you watch We Crashed – the characters are so off the wall that sometimes I had to remind myself this was a true story!

  5. Your garden looks great and is obviously attracting A LOT of attention from the “neighbors!” 😉

It’s out 20th in November and we’re still trying to decide. Barcelona is fab. We also loved Italy – Rome and the Amalfi Coast and Greece. We went to South Africa for our 10th so I want to go somewhere “big” this year – we’ll see!

  6. Your flowers look beautiful! And I love the wildlife, even the snapping turtle and the snake. I would stay far away from the snake, but I just like to see animals in the yard.
So it’s your 30th anniversary? That’s a long time! I’d say it calls for a fun trip. I’m sure any of the places you mentioned would be amazing.
Every year I’m sad when football season ends- I wish I liked basketball more! I’ll bet I could get into it if I just watched a few games. Go Celtics!

    • It does feel a little crazy to say 30th – it really doesn’t feel like it could possibly be that long. Definitely calls for a getaway…and after 2.5 years of no travel I’m itching for a getaway!

  7. Barcelona sounds like an amazing place to celebrate your 30th wedding anniversary! I’m sure anywhere you choose will be lots of fun.

    • I’ve never been to Spain and have always heard great things about Barcelona. We’re constantly debating new locations…at some point we’re going to have to make a decision so we can start planning! 🙂

  8. every year, half of my perennials don’t return or get eaten by deer. One peonies bush is blooming as are some irises.

Ugh on the snack. I would freak.
    ?
Happy anniversary. Sonoma sounds great. How about Paris?

    • The deer and I are in a constant battle – they treat one of my flower beds like a salad bar!

We had a fabulous vacation in Paris years ago and I could easily go back! And you can never go wrong with wine country. Too many options!

  9. Exciting to be plan for a fun vacation! I don’t remember what we did for our 30th. Pretty sure there was nothing exciting for our 35th, either (and really nothing for our 60th anniversaries!). We’re overdue!

Wow on the snapping turtle. We don’t have pond close by so we don’t see that. Your garden is looking lovely!

    • I still cannot believe that turtle traveled as far as she did! And, after all the work I’ve put into the garden this year the last thing I wanted was a turtle’s nest – can you imagine!

  10. Your garden is gorgeous! They are so much work though. So funny about that turtle. We saw one doing the same thing on one of our walks this week. Your travel options sound amazing. Barcelona is a wonderful choice! The Gaudi Cathedral is not to be missed!

    • Thanks, Marcia – and yes gardens are so much work! I don’t think I really knew what I was getting myself into when I started planting years ago – but I do love it! And, an interesting thing about the Gaudi, I just read that it is scheduled to finally be completed in 2026 on the 100th anniversary of Antoni Gaudi’s death.

  11. I’m so glad your work in the garden panned out! I planted geranium bulbs in the front garden area in Feb and literally nothing happened. All I have now is weeds, slug slime and cat poop (well, Ron removed the cat poop otherwise other cats will go there as well — it’s not from our cats by the way, they are indoor cats!). I’m really disappointed and ready to rip up even more of the bricks in the front and put all new dirt in there and just go to a nursery, buy a bunch of stuff and start over again. *sigh*. Why don’t you come here on your way to Barcelona and help me with my garden? 😀

30 years anniversary is incredible — definitely do something to celebrate that! I really aspire to that number and more – should be doable 😉

    • I’d love to swing by and help 😉 I have to be honest I have never had good luck with bulbs, except for the occasional tulip. I like to start with small perennials and let them grow over time.

  12. I will have to watch WeCrashed. That sounds interesting.

30 years??? No way! You don’t look like you could be married that long! Our last big anniversary trip was Antigua and it was fantastic.

  13. Your garden is gorgeous!! <3 That's cool that you've even seen a turtle! I just finished weeding mine and am trying to figure out what I want to add/take out, so we'll see what happens in the coming months, hehe.

I like tropical/warm, so I'd vote for Caribbean! Wherever you end up going though, I hope you have a lot of fun! :]

    • Oh thank you! It’s been fun to see all the garden work pay off. I’m looking forward to hearing what you decide to plant in your new garden 🙂

  14. Gorgeous garden! Wow, 30 years? You have so many. great options for your trip but my vote is for Paris or Spain. Can you do both?
