Hello December!

Here we are at the last month of the year…can you believe it?! I’m looking forward to soaking up all the festive vibes this month has to offer!

As always, I’m setting a couple of monthly fitness goals to help finish the year strong. But, before I get to my December goals, here’s a quick peek at my workouts this week.

Weekly Run Down – Hello December!

Monday — Peloton Ride, Core & Stretch. This was my first time taking a 45 min ride and, as always, Robin delivered a great class! It was a long day back at work after having last week off, and this ride gave me the boost I needed.

Tuesday — 1-mile walk and Yoga Flow: Hips. Way too much time sitting at my laptop left me feeling creaky – time on my mat helped!

Wednesday — 3-mile run, Core & Stretch. Kicked off Day 1 of the #3for31 Challenge hosted by Peloton instructor Robin – the goal is to walk or run 3 miles each day or move for 30 minutes daily from December 1 -31. I’m already participating in the #FFHolidayChallenge with 30 mins of movement daily from Thanksgiving to New Year’s, but I couldn’t pass up a challenge hosted by one of my favorite Peloton instructors so I’ll be double-dipping.

Spied the last bit of fall color on Wednesday’s run

Thursday — Peloton Ride, Lower Body Strength & Stretch.

Friday — 3-mile run & Stretch. The wind was wicked and I just didn’t have it in me to face it again, so I hit the mill for the first time in I cannot even remember how long!

Saturday — 4-mile run, Core & Stretch. Mother Nature showed some mercy with the wind and I was very happy to get back outside.

Sunday — 3-mile walk & Stretch. My husband J and I continued our Sunday morning walk streak before prepping for a busy day of decorating.

December Goals

  • Complete the #3for31 Challenge and the #FFHoliday Challenge – This means at least 30 minutes of movement every day.
  • Continue to keep my right hip happy — Things have been going well with my right hip so of course, I want to keep doing the things that are keeping my hip happy focusing on lower body strength (especially Peloton’s Strength for Runners classes) and daily stretching/yoga.
  • Extend my “long runs” to 6 -7 miles. I’m still in base-building mode but would like to see my overall mileage nudge up just a bit.

Any goals to finish the year?

  1. Looks like a good week for you! I’ve been having some right hip pain and I’d like to keep it happy too. Let me know if you find the secret sauce. Lol

    • Ugh, I’m sorry to hear about your hip pain. I think the daily stretching combined with the strength training is finally helping me to turn the corner.

  2. The 45 min cycle classes are tough for sure. I did like that class a lot too.I am liking the fitness challenges this month too! Have a great week

  3. I thought Robin’s Turkey Burn class was great! I also did Alex’s (last Monday, I think?) and his was a doozy (in a good way). I guess I’m unofficially doing the #3for31 challenge, but never officially sighed up for it. Thanks for the reminder…I need to checkout those Strength for Runners classes!

  4. I like your challenges for December! I enjoyed my yoga challenge so much last month- I wanted to do another challenge for December, but then this week got crazy and here we are, already at the 5th, ARG! I can’t start a challenge five days into the month! I’ll just have to follow along everyone else’s challenges this month.
Glad your hip is happy! Keep doing your yoga!

  5. Love that you’re also doing the #3for31 challenge – it seems like this challenge resonated with a lot of people because I see the hashtag constantly online!

You just reminded me that I should probably try to do some longer runs at some point since I’m registered for a half in March lol

    • Which half are you doing?

It does look like the #3for31 is pretty popular. I think the fact that it’s flexible resonates with people vs. doing a straight streak.

  6. I’ve got to my mileage total I wanted (OK, my C goal not my A or B but I’m OK and still running, so …) and OK after my cold, that’s all I really want. I think the girls and I are going to run round the advent window trail around the streets near here for our Christmas run (even I will break out the Little Miss Christmas leggings …) if we don’t manage the running club’s Christmas Tree route with its Terrible Hill. Happy December!

    • I’m glad you’re still running! I’ve let go of my original mileage goal – I’m just happy to be running pain-free these days. Your Advent window trail run sounds like fun!

  7. Yes! Keep that hip happy!

I want to stretch my five mile runs to six, but I’ve been so lazy. Let’s hold each other accountable for that.

  8. I am always hesitant to take a 45 min ride, but they aren’t as bad as I fear. I still haven’t done any Turkey Burn rides though ….

So glad your hip is happy — here’s to it staying that way into the new year1

  9. For obvious reasons, i really do not have goals to “finish strong”, more like just hang in there.

Sounds like you’re in a really strong place, Michelle. Good luck with your goals this month!

  10. You have a fun plan for December!

Glad your hip is feeling good. Great to have the treadmill option on those windy cold days!
