Time for Some July Runfessions

It’s the last Friday of the month which means Marcia has opened the Runfessional!

It’s also time for another edition of Fit Five Friday hosted by DarleneRenéeJennZenaida, and me! So, let’s get started, shall we?

July Runfessions

Vacation Re-entry — Can I start by saying this week felt so l-o-n-g! Why is it that re-entry following a vacation is always so hectic?! I runfess that I didn’t realize just how much I needed this vacation until I actually got a chance to step away. While I enjoyed my staycation in May, nothing can beat time away. I’m determined to strike a better balance between work and home life moving forward.

New Shoe Delay — You may remember that I was lucky enough to win a pair of Brooks Glycerins as part of a Dick’s Sporting Goods giveaway. When they arrived at the end of June I couldn’t wait to run in them. Then my hip started acting a little wonky and I got skittish about changing shoes. Well, call me paranoid, but I runfess that I didn’t take them out for a run until just this past weekend.

Weather fatigue — OK…you know it’s coming so I’m just going to say it… I runfess that I am so over this weather! We had one of the rainiest Julys on record, and when it wasn’t pouring, the humidity was off the charts. I bracing myself for August.

Ready for training? — The time off from running while on vacation seems to have done my hip a world of good! But now with my fall races on the horizon, it’s time to start to increase my miles and I runfess that I’m a little nervous to see how my hip responds. I’ll be building some extra time into my schedule to return to some of my key PT exercises and I runfess that I’m willing to sacrifice some miles, if necessary to keep injury at bay.

  1. I’m so glad your vacation was wonderful…time away from work is necessary!! That said, my work life has been absolutely nutzo these past two weeks because one of my team members was on vacation last week, and another has been gone all this week LOL I was so excited to see you’d won the Glycerins! I hope they’re working out well for you. I think you’d told me you’d wore them before (previous models), but new “updates” aren’t always “improvements”.

  2. I hope your training for Fall races goes well & the hip cooperates!

As I type, it’s pouring again (7 am). The rain was supposed to be over by now. I had planned to be out there already so I could walk Bandit while it was still cool, but it looks like there could be some heavy downpours — and alas the mill is still DOA (hopefully will be revived next week).

A staycation is not the same as a vacation. Just like visiting relatives is not the same as a real vacation. I’m crossing my fingers that we actually get to the short one we have planned for in August!

  3. We seem to have missed most the rain you speak of but the heat and humidity have been ridiculous. I am sad though that back to school is creeping up, even though both of my kids are excited to go. Your getaway sounds divine!

  4. What Judy said. It rains almost everyday. And I don’t have a tm. Makes it a challenge esp when you work full time.

I am taking some days off in August. I need it!

    Hope your hip behaves.

  5. It doesn’t look like I’m going to get a summer vacation, but I do have another long weekend planned in August. I will treasure every moment, but it won’t be the lazy days at the beach I wanted.

Glad your hip is happier now. Very smart to ramp up slowly, as hard as that can be.

  6. I am a little nervous about increasing miles as well. I am starting to feel little things I don’t want to feel. Hope you love the Glycerins as much as I do. Sounds like your vacation was just what you needed! All of our rain has come in the form of nasty evening storms. I can’t take the humidity anymore!

  7. I’m feeling some deja vu as I have some similar runfessions, lol. This week was my ‘staycation’, the second half of my 2 week time off. It has been a long week, made longer by being stuck inside. I’m with you on the weather! It’s so uncomfortable. I hope your hip cooperates with the new training cycle.

  8. Yep… nothing compares to actually going away on vacation. Looking back on it, July seems like an incredibly long month and I think it’s because we went away for a week. It really made the summer more special.
Good luck with your hip!!! If you do all your PT exercises it should be fine. Hope you like your new Glycerins.

  9. So did you like the Glycerin? I’ve run in them but the Ghost and Launch are my favorites. I hope you don’t have much trouble with your hip during your training. Excited to follow along on your training!!
