Mid-month check-in

Happy Sunday!

While things have been fairly quiet here on the blog lately, if you follow me on Instagram you know that I’m still plugging along with my workouts. Working out continues to provide a much-needed escape from all that continues to challenge our country at the moment. It provides a quiet space to process thoughts and feelings and is also a very important piece of self-care.

Today is Day 14 of the Summer Streaker Challenge – the goal is 1 mile or 20 minutes of working out each day. I’m happy to say that I’m still on track. Over the past couple of weeks, running has been a fairly low-key affair with most runs hovering around 3 miles. My right hip’s been fairly cooperative until yesterday’s run – a reminder to not neglect my PT exercises or foam rolling! After some extra care yesterday, I had a solid 5 miler today to complete another Un-canceled 8K.

My husband, brother, oldest son and I just signed on for The Great Run Across Massachusetts. We’ll be running out and back across the state for 235 miles, which nets out to 58.75 miles each, but I know we’ll each be vying for bragging rights to see who’s going to carry the team. I’m still looking for my running mojo to kick in so I’m hoping this challenge will be the added boost I need, plus it supports some worthy causes.

Aside from the running, I’ve made good use of the Peloton app for strength training, found my way on to my yoga mat a couple of times, and got out for a few walks with friends. All-in-all it’s been a decent couple of weeks of workouts. The plan for the next couple of weeks is more of the same, except that I’d like to start to stretch my weekend runs a bit longer.

How is June treating you so far? Do you use challenges or virtual races to stay motivated?

I’m linking up with Deborah and Kim for the Weekly Run Down.

  1. High 5 on your workouts! For me fitness is both an escape and something that I’m pursuing seriously. I’m in a phase right now where I can make improvements in my running, but sometimes I just need to get our there and run, if that makes sense.

  2. It’s really fun to see how everyone is “running” across their states this summer. Fun thing to do with your family too. Plugging away over here as well. Thanks for linking up and have a great week

  3. I’m finding it hard to muster mojo for anything, but I think my weekly run down posts keep me going. Doing the run across Mass with your husb and son sounds like a great idea. Hope the competition doesn’t get too fierce. 😉 I hope your hip stays queit!

  4. I’ve been enjoying seeing you continue your streak on IG! I swear that if I wasn’t training for anything, I’d probably stop the blog. Its’ such a tough time. Hope the hip settles back down. I can say that after today’s long trail run, I’ll be hitting the yoga mat tomorrow!

    • I know what you mean….I’ve seriously thought about putting the blog on pause for a while. A lot on my mind, but very little is running related, know what I mean?

  5. Yay, we now have a Massachusetts runner taking on her state 😉 I’m doing Iowa (249 miles), but am hoping with all of my walking added in I’ll hit the 315 goal (which involved a bit of an out-and-back twist to the challenge). Glad to hear your hip had a change in attitude today and your run went well 😉

  6. Great work on the streak!
I love family projects and the 235-mile challenge sounds like a lot of fun! I can see how that can get competitive! 😉
Talking of which, how is the family plank challenge going on?

  7. Sounds like you’ve formed a great team for your virtual trek across your state. It is a fun concept and I think Zenaida and I just finished our trip across IL. Hope that hip continues to behave!

  8. Good luck on being team leader for your challenge!

Fitness is really a habit for me, so I’m not so much into the challenges. Anything that keeps you moving is a good thing, in my book.

    • Fitness is definitely a habit for me but my running mojo these days is almost non-existent. I miss having a race to train for and am not a huge fan of virtuals, though I have signed up for one or two – the challenges at least help to keep things interesting.

  9. Such a great week of workouts for you! I love that your whole family signed up for the Great Run Across Massachusetts – that should be a lot of fun. I love all of these virtual “race across the state” challenges that have popped up recently. It’s a great way to keep me motivated because you know I hate summer running lol

  10. How fun that you’ll be doing the state virtual challenge with your family!! I am doing the IL one (which I am sure Marcia and I are done with) but now doing one in CA. They have helped me stay on track and motivated.

  11. I’m glad you are still plugging along and it sounds like the challenge can help you stay a bit motivated! that and getting your peloton workouts in!

  12. GL with your challenge.

I signed up for NYS. at first 500k and then I stupidly upped it to 1000k.

That will keep me moving but there will be a lot of walks in there.
