May Goals

It’s the usual custom around here to make monthly goals – I find it helps me to stay on track and keeps me accountable. But somehow, I let April slip by without setting some. So now that we’re knocking on May’s door, it’s the perfect time to make some plans for the month.

May Goals

Run, run & run some more! — With my first race of 2019 coming up on Memorial Day weekend, this month will be all about mileage. Coach Marc is always tweaking my training plan, but I’m thinking 75 miles for the month is totally doable.

Prioritize rest & sleep — Quite simply I’ve been running around like a chicken with its head cut off for most of April…actually ever since I got home from vacation. My sleep has been poor. Not a good path to continue down….

Return to early morning runs — Lately, I’ve been really been all over the place with when I run, but I prefer to get out and get my runs done early. This is especially a must once the weather turns hot so I might as well get back in the habit now, right?

Reach the starting line healthy — So in addition to prioritizing sleep, this means regular trips to the acupuncturist, take my supplements, and keep up with the glute/hip prehab no matter how mind-numbing it is!

And, that’s it! I’m keeping it simple and focused.

What are your goals for May?

I’m linking up with Kim and Zenaida for Tuesday Topics.

  1. It sounds like you’ve set reasonable goals for yourself! I know I’ve struggled with getting those early morning runs in. I used to be so good at getting up and out the door, but now I like to sit and drink coffee and kind of ease into the day. It’s been so cold that it hasn’t been an issue for me. We’ll see if I continue my lazy ways into summer!

    • Yeah I definitely have not been in a hurry to get out there in the morning since it’s been so cold – but I have a feeling Mother Nature’s going to turn quickly on us and all of the sudden it will feel like summer!

  2. Great goals, Michelle, and oh-so-doable!! I’m up early every morning, whether I’m running or not LOL…need me to give you a call? 😉 I love that beautiful title pic with the tulips!!!!

  3. These sounds like great goals. I have no doubt that you’ll be more than ready to run that race in a few weeks!

  4. You’ve got some great goals! I would also like to get more sleep. Even though sometimes I do go to bed early, there are days that I also go to bed late and then struggle to get up in the morning. I plan to run more the next couple of months for my next half in June, so I need to make sure I get plenty of sleep.

  5. Wait. How is it MAY?? I feel like I’m just coming up for air after the marathons. I have no running goals this month. I think my focus will be on strength training and getting my diet under control. And then there’s all the graduation stuff.

  6. April was all about adding back in mileage for me as well. Hoping to keep that up for May but I have lots of travel so I have to get very creative with my running in the next few weeks. Sounds like you have a great plan in place. Happy May!

  7. I am definitely working on prioritizing rest and sleep. It has helped to keep me healthier this winter. I am also getting ready for my goal half marathon.

  8. I’m with you with the sleep!!! I have actually made a shared spreadsheet for my little group of sedate lady runners so we can all get various good habits going. Good plans, I’d say.

  9. That’s a great list of goals! I’m also thinking that May is when I’m going to transition to morning runs because we’ve got a couple really hot days coming up and I’m sure that will continue.
