Weekly Wrap – Summer mode

It’s been almost 2 weeks since my last post and somehow a full month since I last linked up with Holly and Wendy for the Weekly Wrap. How did that happen?!

Well, the truth is life happened and I haven’t really been in training mode. Once the cranky hammy/glute thing crushed my plans for the Run to Remember Half at the end of May, I kinda threw the training plan out the window.  I have been keeping busy and tailoring my workouts to how the body is feeling on any given day.

So, how did this week shake out?

Monday – 400-meter repeats. I haven’t done speed work in what feels like forever, so I decided to try some repeats on the mill. I also did W3D1 of Rachel’s Abs & Arms Challenge.

Tuesday – I was on the road for work again this time for a trip to the state house, but I did get in the plank jacks and bicycle intervals for the Abs & Arms Challenge.

Wednesday – Rest Day.

Thursday – Strength day on my deck included D3 and D4 from the challenge along with hip/glute work.

Friday — It was an early start to the day for event set up for work, but I was pretty pleased to squeeze in a 3-mile run and W3D5 of the challenge.

Saturday — I was up and out before 4 a.m. to get to the event site and finish prepping before registration opened at 6:45. The event went smoothly and I managed to log 5.4 miles along with the challenge workout.

Sunday — Oh my gosh I was just so dang tired! My whole body screamed stay in bed. I went out in hopes of getting 5, but everything felt sore and it was already ridiculously hot (despite being just 8 a.m.). It started to feel counter-productive to just keep pushing, so I called it at 3 miles and headed home to enjoy the day celebrating Father’s Day with my family.

We’re supposed to be facing record heat this week so sunrise runs will be in the plans. I’m also looking forward to my first kickboxing class (more on that later)… and oh yeah, I’ll be running the BAA 10K with my brother and husband on Sunday.

Tell me how was your week? Are you training for anything at the moment?

  1. This heat is just awful for everyone, isn’t it. I’m in the UK and it’s not so bad here although has been humid, which I hate. There’s only so early you can get up and out, isn’t there. I’m not training for any races at the moment, which is blissful! Just enjoying running!

  2. Hope you stay cool during the heat wave this week!

  3. We’re on track for record temps (again) this week, too. It was 76F at 5:30 already this morning, and the humidity was thick. It was 103F when I came home from work around 3:30. UGH.

  4. Good luck next weekend. I hope things cool off.

It was a hot one here today. I planned on 4 and quite after 2.5.

  5. Those back to back early morning wake ups would do me in for sure! Have fun this weekend with the 10K

  6. I am right there with you, my friend. It’s cooling off here as we speak–so we’ll see how it all works out. Hang in there.

  7. Gosh, that sounds like a long and exhausting day on Saturday. I’m impressed you even made it out for 3 mi on Sunday. I hope the 10K goes well this weekend.

  8. It’s good to have you back! Life can totally get in the way, more often than not. I think everyone understands that.

I’m glad things are kind of calming down a little for you!

Still training although kind of without direction. I don’t have any half marathons on the calendar for this fall or winter, but I need to change that.

  9. I’ve been having to wake up early, too. It’s either that or hit the treadmill.

  10. Sounds like you had a busy week. Great job fitting everything in! Good luck on your 10k.

  11. Welcome back!! It’s always nice to have a break. I hope the heat dissipates for you soon so you don’t have to wake up at 4 a.m.! That’s crazy!

  12. What a week! I’m tired just reading about everything you got done. Whew! The heat and humidity here this week is brutal. I did Grandma’s on Saturday, so I’m still taking it easy. The humidity is 96% right now and storms are on the way, so I think I might just do a little recovery work in my home gym today. Enjoy your Sunday race!

  13. The heat is bad here in NC this week! I was out there at 6:15am and it wasn’t too bad but next time I’m pushing it back to 5:30! Enjoy your kickboxing class!

  14. I feel ya. It has been a crazy few weeks in my world also.
Way to get out there and get some miles in and participate in Rachel’s challenge!
Hope you have a great week ahead!

  15. I completely understand the whole “life got busy and I didn’t have much time for blogging” thing. I’ve been doing by best to keep up with everything but its definitely hard, especially when a child is involved.

Kudos to you on a great week on the fitness front. Here’s to another great week!

  16. I’m feeling a little busy and pressured to be blogging right now too! just so much going on!

sometimes those long run attempts can just be so hard. it’s ok to just call it a day sometimes! running in heat and humidity sucks to be honest, just keep pushing and trying to get out there and if you need rest, then rest!

  17. I’m glad to see you back! I can only imagine how tired you’d be after working an athletic event like that, especially if it was hot. Good luck with your 10k this weekend! Thanks for linking.
