Spring Runfessions

Happy Friday!

Wowza what a long week it’s been! I’m looking forward to the weekend, but first things first – today is the last Friday of the month and Marcia has opened the runfessional so let’s share, shall we?

I runfess that this year’s weather has really gotten into my head more than usual. I’m not usually such a fair-weather runner, but I am just so done with wearing “all the layers”. Thankfully, Mother N seems to have finally settled down and the past few days have felt like spring!

I runfess I’m more in love with the idea of running than actual running at the moment. My runs have kind of been all over the place lately – I’m either feeling like I’m in a groove or even the easy runs feel ridiculously hard. There’s no rhyme or reason to it. Running has its ebbs and flows, and I’m currently in an ebb.

I runfess that I’ve been having a hard time watching some of the trainer-led workouts going on at my gym lately. While I do not profess to be an expert, if someone’s doing a plank and they look more like a triangle, shouldn’t you correct them? I watched a training session going on next to me the other day and couldn’t believe it. The trainer seemed more concerned with looking at his phone than what his client was doing. Then again, the trainer was also dressed in jeans…so there’s that!

I runfess that while I was fully committed to Rachel’s Tricep Dips, Push-ups & Jump Squat Challenge, my mojo has waned this week as the number of reps reached the 90s – the dips and push-up are leaving me with jelly arms. I’ve been doing them usually in sets of 20 and admit to not always getting back to finish the final sets this week.

I runfess that today is the 8th anniversary of this blog! (You can read my very first post here). When I realized earlier this month that it was coming up, I had grand plans for honoring the occasion, but then promptly forgot about them in the hubbub of daily life. Perhaps I’ll get it together for a belated celebration in May.

Tell me, do you ever see trainers re-inforcing bad form at the gym? Do you celebrate your blog anniversary?

I’m also joining Rachel and Lacey & Meranda for the Friday Five link-up!

  1. Happy blogiversary! Cheers to 8 years! I am right there with you on wanting to commemorate in an auspicious manner but never getting around to it. Haha! The extended winter totally ticked me off.

    • Let’s just hope winter has finally left the building! The local weather guy here reminded everyone the other day that it’s snowed in May before and I’m thinking don’t even go there!

  2. Happy blogiversary! Your runfession about the trainers at your gym cracked me up because it’s the EXACT same thing at my gym. Plus the trainers are constantly asking me if I want to sign up for a session – um…no thanks, lol

  3. Wow 8 years! What an accomplishment! Congratulations. 🙂

  4. Wow, congrats on the 8th blogiversary! And those training sessions at the gym sound horrible 🙁

  5. Happy anniversary. Mine was 10 in March. I blogged about it when I remember.

I think you will get your running mojo back when the sunshine comes back.

  6. Happy blogiversary! I think you know I’m a huge fan of your blog 🙂

I’m so glad spring is here (though it’s raining today). The winter messed with all of us, I think!

And that trainer, oh man it must have been hard not to say something!

  7. I had to bail on a few of the recent workouts for the Challenge as well. Those higher numbers are difficult to squeeze in if you’re “non-fitness” schedule is already over-booked. And the trainer ignoring the bad plank form? What the what???

  8. 8 years is a long time! Congrats! I think we all fall out of love with running from time to time. No sweat!

  9. Happy blog anniversary! I stopped celebrating my blog anniversary as it’s right before Christmas but I do acknowledge it.
I took feel like the idea of running is great, but my running is just hard lately!

  10. I forgot about my blog anniversary, too. I had plans! Ah well, I’m over it. 😉

That would peeve the heck out of me watching a trainer not train his client. Ugh. I hope that person fires him soon.

  11. Happy Blogaversary!!! I’m so glad I’ve gotten to “know” you through your blog.

I have a pet peeve not only with poor training but also poor form on blogs and social media. There’s really no excuse with the number of selfies people take these days.

Yeah, the weather is messing with me. We were supposed to have a heat wave but ahem. Where is it? High of 48 tomorrow? Really?

    • Thanks Wendy! I’m glad I’ve gotten to know you too – one day we’ll have to meet in person!

And the selfie thing? Don’t even get me started!

  12. There is a really nice trainer at my office gym, but I would never hire him because he doesn’t ensure his clients have proper form — and that’s would be so important to me! I am hoping spring weather improves my running mojo too.

  13. Happy blogiversary! That’s a great milestone! Congrats!! And yes, as a CPT, I don’t like to see bad form demonstrated either…in particular, if it’s something that looks unsafe.

  14. I can’t believe the trainer was looking at his phone while with a client. I hope he was looking up proper form…lol.

Let’s hope this weather is the start of something beautiful!

  15. Running is most certainly a roller coaster experience car. I seem to have been stuck in a “low” point lately, where a lot of my runs feel harder than they should. Hopefully I’ll start to climb back up sooner than later.

  16. I’m with you on Rachel’s challenge. It has gotten hard to complete as the reps increase. I have missed a couple of days myself. I, too, have a hard time getting motivated to run these days …I’m blaming hormones!

  17. Happy blog anniversary! I celebrated 5 years this month and also meant to go big but life!

I feel ya with the bad form! It drives me nuts! I deal with bad form in my classes and it takes everything in me to not stop class and correct everyone.
