Harborside Wk 6 – Quick update

Week 6 of Harborside training is done and there’s not a ton to report this week. As I mentioned over coffee yesterday, it was another one of those weeks where I didn’t know if I were coming or going. But in an effort to stay consistent on recapping my training, here’s a quick review.

Monday – Rest day

Tuesday –  3.25 miles. I was starting to not feel so hot so I pushed the run to the afternoon. There was a lot of self-talk to get myself out the door, but once I was moving I actually felt pretty good, so I’m glad I went.

Wednesday – Week 2 of gym meet-ups with my friend E

Thursday – 5 x 800-meter repeats were on the plan, but I woke up feeling pretty lousy. I spent the day working from my couch and while I hated to miss time at the track, I decided rest was the better choice.

Friday – E and I decided to head outdoors instead of another trip to the gym. We did a 4-mile walk at a brisk pace and my legs were surprisingly sore after (funny how walking can do that!).

Saturday – Had a great run with my husband, despite the ridiculous humidity (c’mon Mother N!) and we were rewarded with this view as we reached the top our last hill.

Nothing flashy this week, but given how I was feeling most of the week, I’ll take it! As always, I’m joining Holly & Tricia for the Weekly Wrap.

How was your week? Do you still run when you’re not feeling great or do you take a rest day?

  5. Probably a good idea to take it easy and let the cold go away.

  6. Sometimes when I am not feeling well, running does me good. At a much slower pace of course. Hope this coming well goes better for you.

  7. I appreciate your comment about the 4-mile walk! I have a new respect for walking…I was hurting in places I’d never felt before after some of my walking excursions this summer. A friend and I did a crazy-paced 4-mile walk last week, and dang! That hurt more than a hilly marathon LO(L

    • Oh I have much respect for walking! My massage therapist has been encouraging me to walk more just to work some of those muscles running doesn’t hit.

  8. You know, I used to run even when I felt bad and most times, it always made me feel better. However, the older I get, the more likely I am to take a rest day when I feel bad …I’m not sure if that’s a “listening to my body” thing or “giving in to my body” thing. Lol

  9. Sounds like you needed the rest! And I’m always surprised how sore I can end up after a brisk walk too… walking gets a bad rap sometimes 🙂

  10. Rest is underrated and it sounds like you needed some. Glad you listened to your body, I tend not to do that and it gets me in big trouble.

  11. You had a solid week! I feel like running and walking just don’t use the same muscle groups or something. I have to remember to get in some walking if we are planning a trip that requires a lot of it. If I’m not “trained”, it will give me shin splints like nobody’s business. Thanks for linking!

  12. That’s a gorgeous view! I do not run if I don’t feel well. I always err on the side of rest.

  13. Wow, we are on the same wavelength. Battling the crud over here as well. Doesn’t help that weather is pendulum-ing between 75 degrees yesterday and 30 degrees today. I took today off, but definitely going to get back to it in the morning. Feel better soon!

  14. Rest is always better if your body is sending you signals to take it down a notch. Good call on taking that extra day!

  15. Sounds like everyone is getting sick lately! Hope you’re feeling better.

    What a beautiful sunrise!

  16. Aww sorry to hear you weren’t feeling well!

I usually keep working out if it’s a mild cold but definitely not if it’s a stomach flu!

  18. Sounds like a good week to me! I do a combination of running and walking, and the walking definitely hits some areas differently!

Sounds like a solid week getting it done! I love that your husband runs with you too 🙂

  20. Michelle, we’re in the same boat, I don’t know if I’m coming or going most days too!
Lets just stick it out and see what happens.
To answer your question, I’ve done both. I ran when I felt like I should rest and I’ve also rested when a run may have done me good! I never really know what to do!
