Friday Five – Great cause, Burpees and other stuff

Hello Friday!

Coffee cup in hand and dog by my feet and a little this and that coming your way….

Stop Stroke Shuffle — Dani over at Weight Off My Shoulders is hosting the Stop Stroke Shuffle 5k virtual race. Dani is once again representing Tedy’s Team at the Boston Marathon and raising money for the American Stroke Association. Proceeds from this virtual race will go towards Dani’s goal of raising $5,000. I plan to run this in honor of my grandfather. Click on the cute medal below to join in!

FFBURPEE#FFBurpee 1000 Burpee Challenge — OK I’ll admit this is a tough one for me….I loathe burpees! They’re hard and truthfully I’m not very good at doing them, but they are effective.

FitFluential is teaming up with Under Armour for this challenge – the goal is to complete 1,000 burpees by February 28th. No that’s not a typo…1,000! Need some extra incentive? How about a complete outfit from Under Armour…not to mention the positive effects on your physique! Check out the details HERE and join me (I’ll need the encouragement πŸ™‚ )

Race Bait & Switch — Have you ever registered for a race only to have the race director announce just days before the start that there’s now a pace restriction? Yep! When I registered for this Β 5-miler last month there was no mention of needing to maintain a particular pace, yet in the race director’s email yesterday he casually mentions that they’re facing time constraints and runners should plan to maintain a <9 min pace or drop down to the newly added 5K. Not cool in my book! I had already decided to take a pass because this head cold has made speedwork non-existent.

Super Bowl — As a diehard football fan I would be remiss if I didn’t acknowledge that Super Bowl Sunday is just days away. I still haven’t gotten over my beloved Patriots’ u-g-l-y loss in the AFC Championship game. But, we do love football in the RWA household so I will be making jambalaya for the event (it’s tradition), and cheering on the Seahawks! Β Any traditional Super Bowl dishes in your house?

…oh and don’t forget the Bulu Box deal ends today!

  1. I’m doing the burpees challenge too…trying to get better at them, ugh!

  2. I’m also still on the fence with that burpee challenge. Ugh :/

  3. Yeah, on the fence is a nice way to say I’m not burpeeing….yet…

An 11th hour pace change is bogus. Especially such a restrictive one. πŸ™

  4. Clearly I have been living under a rock as I have not seen the Burpees challenge… hmmm must look into!

  5. 1,000 burpees sounds like torture. Extreme, unfair, I want my mommy torture. Holy moly. On the other hand, maybe if I did 1,000 burpees, I’d turn into such a bada$$ that everything after that would be easy. =)

  6. A burpee challenge? No thank you! I do enough of those torturous things as it is! HAHAHA

That time thing about that race is not cool. I’d be pissed if that were me. Guess it was good timing with you not feeling well though.

  7. First of all Go Pats! SO sad they didn’t make it in this year, and we gotta hurry before my beloved Brady is out of playing time πŸ™ Enough of the sadness, that’s super messed up to not have the pace restriction posted at registration….not cool race director!

  8. Debating about the burped challenge… I like burpees and do them often just don’t want to feel like I need to count or track something else… we will see πŸ™‚

  9. As much as I love a challenge I wasn’t in the least bit tempted to join the burpee challenge. That probably means I should have πŸ™‚

  10. A pace restriction? that is crazy. I would definitely speak up about that.
And no, no burpee challenge. I probably should do it, but it does not sound like any sort of fun.

  11. That Pace restriction is CRAZY. I am ok with pace restrictions placed on races ahead of time, but usually they are really generous, like a 15-16 minute mile. not everyone can run a 8:50 mile. I mean, thats kinda my speedwork these days. :/

I’ve never been able to get the DM widget on my WP blog. can you tell me how?

  12. That’s 37 burpees per day (cause I just missed the first)! That’s 18.5 in the AM and then again the PM – ‘I gotta think about this one….. And as far as Superbowl, even though the Giants didn’t make it – at least we got a family member in (Go Peyton), and another lane on Rt 3 (finally, more than three lanes going into the Lincoln Tunnel)

  13. I should have thought to break it down before I signed on! LOL! Off to do some more πŸ˜‰

Trackbacks

  1. […] Saturday’s long run so it seemed like a perfect time to put some of those miles towards the Stop Stroke Shuffle 5K. I had so wanted to do this run on the road but after taking a quick trip in my car to survey the […]
