Not another rest day!

I have not run since last Tuesday and I’m starting to get cranky!too much rest

By Friday morning I’d come to the decision that with just 6 weeks until my December half, I didn’t want to risk further injury running the local 5K. I had to admit to myself that my foot was still sore and rest was the best bet. A conversation with Coach Bennett and a review of the upcoming training plan confirmed that this was the right call.

But I can’t take it any more – I’ve run a grand total of 9.55 miles since the B.A.A. Half. At first I really welcomed the days off, but that only lasted a couple of days… then I started to get edgy. My hat is off to those of you who have sat on injured reserve for much longer! I’m grateful to be able to head back out this morning.

What’s the longest you’ve gone without running because of an injury?

  1. Sorry Michelle! It’s such a frustrating feeling, I know. Rest as much as you can stand and then give it a test run. Good luck!

  2. Good luck!

  3. When I had a stress fracture in my right foot earlier this year, I couldn’t run for 3 months. That was rough. Right now I’m in my second drought with over 7 weeks of non running after a scare during a 5K. I’m a fan of active recovery…helps with keeping your sanity!

  4. Glad you’re listening to your body and resting up for the big race! Feel better!

  5. Resting definitely stinks! The longest I’ve been out of commission is around 4 months with a severe hip strain. It was terrible!

  6. I know it’s hard but the rest will pay off. Hang in there. I’ve had some doozy injuries. At least 6 weeks without running a couple of times. But I sub in pool running. Good times.

  7. Ugh! Injuries stink. Over the summer I was out for 6+ weeks. The previous summer it was 8+. Trust me, don’t rush it. Running will still be there waiting for you when you are healed and ready to run. Sending healing vibes your way!

  8. How did your test run go?
