A Fall Race on the Horizon

Well, it’s been more than a minute since I last checked in with a weekly update. Life’s been busy but good – blogging has just taken a backseat. The workouts have pretty much been on autopilot but thanks to the Run Happy Team, I finally have at least one fall race on the horizon so in the coming weeks that will change. But for now, it was a pretty basic week…here’s a quick peek into how this week in fitness played out.

the view from Tuesday’s run

A Fall Race on the Horizon

Monday — Full Body Strength & Core
Tuesday — 3 miles & Core
Wednesday — Rest day
Thursday — 4 miles and a much-needed sports massage
Friday — 2-mile walk, Core & Upper Body Strength
Saturday — 2-mile walk, Full Body Strength & Core
Sunday — 6 miles & Hip mobility work

Medtronic TC 10 Mile

So thanks to the Brooks Run Happy Team, I was gifted an entry to the Medtronic TC 10 Mile which is part of the Twin Cities Marathon race weekend. I make no secret of my love for 10M races and this one has a reputation to be a good one! I was excited to be able to skip the lottery (yes it’s that popular) and so now I’ve got at least one fall race to look forward to!

How was your week? Any Fall race plans?

Five Things I’m looking forward to this summer

The Summer season is officially here – though you’d never know it based on the current thermometer reading. Nonetheless, I’m ready to embrace all that this summer has to offer. For this week’s Fit Five Friday, I’m sharing just a few things I’m looking forward to this summer.

Five Things I’m looking forward to this summer

Vacation! — We’ve booked our Alaskan cruise and I cannot wait! I’m looking forward to seeing the glaciers, wildlife, whales, and amazing landscape.

Brooks Hype Fest — I’ll be headed to LA in August for the Run Happy Team retreat. Added bonus will be getting to spend time with Wendy!

Catching up with friends — Between life stuff and my work schedule over the past couple of months, I’ve not spent as much time with friends as I’d like. So I’m changing that! I caught up with some friends for dinner earlier this week and have booked a number of lunches/ coffees/dinners/hangouts for the upcoming months.

Time at the beach — I love the beach and yet sadly did not get any time on the sand last year. I’m hoping to change that this year.

College visits — I’m still trying to wrap my head around the fact that my youngest son is now a senior and applying to colleges this fall.  It’s been so fun to watch my high schooler come into his own during his Junior year and I can’t wait to visit campuses and see what resonates with him.

Bonus item! — Breaking ground for our remodel! We’re scheduled to go before our town’s conservation committee in a couple of weeks and if all goes well we’ll be able to break ground this summer!

Tell me – what are you looking forward to this summer?

March Coffee Catch Up

February went by in a blink and just like that we are ushering in a new month! It’s the perfect time for a little coffee catch-up, so I’m linking up with Deborah and Coco for the Ultimate Coffee Date. And, of course, it’s Friday so that means another Fit Five Friday link-up! So grab a mug of your fave hot beverage and let’s chat. (This post contains affiliate links).

March Coffee Catch Up

Over coffee, I would start by giving you a quick update on our contractor saga…we have found two more contractors who have actually returned our phone calls…wish us luck! Moving on…

Over coffee, I would tell you that I just finished a galley copy of Des Linden’s book, Choosing to Run. This was a fantastic read! This book provides not only a great look at Des’ career, her willingness to gamble on herself, and the mindset and tenacity it took to gut it out in the crazy tough conditions of the 2018 Boston Marathon. I’m a huge Des fan and this book did not disappoint!

Over coffee, I would tell you how blown away I am by the welcome kit Brooks recently sent out to the Run Happy Team – so much goodness from tights to tops to bras to socks to hats…and of course, shoes! My favorite items are the Run Happy Team half zip and hoodie – so cute!

This photo doesn’t do the welcome kit justice!

Over coffee, I would tell you that we broke down and revived our Netflix subscription. Since then we have binged Wednesday which we both really enjoyed. I took advantage of my husband’s business travel this week to catch up on The Home Edit. So now to figure out what’s next.

What would you tell me over coffee? Any streaming suggestions? Any fun new run gear?

Trying to Settle In

Not going to lie, these first two weeks of this new year have definitely kept me on my toes. When I got to this weekend, I decided that this is a perfect time to hit the reset button and see if I can finally settle into a routine. But, before I look ahead, here’s a quick peek at the week that was.

Trying to Settle In

Monday — 1.5-mile walk, Lower Body Strength & Core.
Tuesday — 2-mile walk otherwise rest
Wednesday — 3 miles.
Thursday — Upper Body Strength and 1-mile walk. I decided to return to Robin’s Advanced 3-Day Split Strength Program on the Peloton app. Day 1 targeted chest, shoulders, and triceps.

Friday — 30 min interval run
Saturday — 2-mile walk and Day 2 of the Split focusing on legs and core.
Sunday — 4 miles

To give my runs some structure this week I started following Team Wilpers Half Marathon Challenge. The plan is designed to get runners prepped for their Spring races, and while I don’t have a Spring half on my calendar, I’m going to use this training plan to help smartly guide my mileage build-up, while getting me out of my “easy runs all the time” rut.

Run Happy Team Year 2!

A highlight of the week was being able to announce my return to Brooks Running’s Run Happy Team! I make no secret of my love of this brand and RHT is a great community of runners to be a part of.

Five Things Over January Coffee

Happy Friday! It’s time for another edition of Fit Five Friday! It’s also time for a little catch-up over coffee with Coco and Deborah for the Ultimate Coffee Date. So grab a mug of your favorite hot beverage and let’s settle in for a chat.

Over coffee, I would tell you how much I enjoyed having the week off between Christmas and the New Year – it really gave me the downtime I desperately needed. The week off was filled with streaming movies, board games, and just hanging out. We did venture out to see Van Gogh: The Immersive Experience, which was fantastic, and to visit one of those big drive-through light displays – otherwise we were homebodies and it was glorious!

Over coffee, I would tell you that my oldest has decided not to return to campus this month. Clarkson has not been a good fit and he wants to transfer. Sadly I think this is the downside of not having been able to make final campus visits before committing to a college (thanks covid!). Nonetheless, I’m glad he told us he wanted a change vs. just trying to stick it out where he’s not happy. He’s already registered for some classes for the spring semester locally and is busy figuring out his options for the fall.

Over coffee, I would tell you that I was offered a new job right before the holidays! I have been craving a change for a while and this new opportunity will be big and challenging in a good way. I start my new gig in a couple of weeks.

Over coffee, I would tell you how excited I am to finally be able to announce that I was selected for the 2022 Brooks Run Happy Team. Brooks has been my go-to running shoe for years so I’m really looking forward to representing a brand I love.

Lastly, over coffee, I would tell you that I’m really enjoying the “Mindfulness and Running” course I have been taking for the past few weeks. The course is offered by my run coach Marc. It’s been a great opportunity to explore different approaches to mindfulness and meditation and how mindfulness can positively support your running.

And now that I’ve talked your ear off, I’ll ask, what would you tell me over coffee?
