Heat Runfessions

It’s the last Friday of the month which means Marcia has opened the Runfessional!

It’s also time for another edition of Fit Five Friday hosted by DarleneRenéeJennZenaida, and Me! So, let’s get started, shall we?

Heat Runfessions

I runfess that I almost didn’t write a post for this week because I’m trying really hard to not complain about the weather. I mean it’s summer, …it’s supposed to be hot, right? Clearly, I’m losing this battle!

Last month I runfessed that given how humid the weather can be in September that I was holding off on registering for the Philly Distance Run until I tried a couple of double-digit runs in July. Well, I runfess that I haven’t done a run longer than 5 miles this month…so you can see where this is headed.

I’m pretty sure I’ve used this meme before, but it fits!

Despite how I have been feeling about running in this heat, I runfess that I have surprised myself by actually enjoying a return to speedwork this month. It will be fun to see if this pays off in the fall.

Any runfessions to share?

  1. Summer running is rough. Scooby is making me keep my runs short! I need to get a little fan for my tread ….

  2. There’s hot and then there’s the heat I just experienced in Alabama. Thank goodness for the water. Running wasn’t even an option. I can’t imagine having that kind of heat every day! Ours is bad enough.

  3. You know I love the heat, but the past couple weeks have been pretty extreme. I’m glad I don’t “need” the extra miles on foot for any specific training right now. But, I have been enjoying my time on the bike 🙂

  4. I don’t envy you – summer running is tough. The only thing I like is that the days are longer so I’m able to run earlier in the morning and later in the day. Keep pushing, cooler months are ahead!

  5. well, I have debated about that Philly distance run for years now and never signed up! It is way too hot in Sept for a half. I am trying to wrap my head around my October half at the moment. It is quickly approaching 🙂

  6. I used to be the “woman on the left” kind of summer person, but after living in Florida for over 20 years, I’m turning more into the melting one. But, I do keep telling myself that summer is supposed to be hot. I’m glad you’ve been enjoying your speedwork! I agree- it’s fun to run faster.

  7. The Dog Days of Summer — that’s August (so of course I did my longest race ever in August a few years ago).

The good news is the race isn’t in August!

I don’t think the humidity actually gets to me as much as having to get up and out so early. It’s weird, I’m a morning person, but that just drains me.

  8. The weather this month has just been ridiculous! It’s hard to keep the mileage long with such depressing heat and humidity. Hopefully you’ll still make it to Philly!

  9. I have had to become a morning runner but it’s easier now that I am still working from home.

I was planning on 10 miles last weekend… nope barely did8.I’ll try again this weekend.

I’m running but some days I think I walk more than I run but I’m ok with it.

  10. I’m on team melts in heat, too!

About to head to Madrid where the highs are around 100. At least it’s a dry heat – LOL! #firstworldproblems

  11. Knock wood it hasn’t been too bad here lately. With a winter that seems like it’s 10 months long, I don’t dare complain about heat. It does suck the life out of me when I have to do marathon training in it though. I am grateful there is none of that happening this summer!

  12. Summer running is awful! This year it hasn’t been too bad which is a good thing. Now Winter is another story. It is interesting how here in September it tends to cool down a bit and we are closer to Fall. I love running in the Fall.

  13. I so hear you on the heat thing. Honestly. what is wrong with people who think it can’t ever be hot enough (my husband is one…). And YES I’m from the Southwest. And sure it gets hot in the summer, but 1) I haven’t lived there since 1986 (!!) and 2) it’s DRY heat (this humidity sucks the life from you just stepping out the door) and 3) It cools down in the evening enough that it would make for a really pleasant run.

speedwork is fun for sure especially in short intervals!

  14. I think this is a special kind of hot. Do I say that every year? I may say that every year.
