WRD – 4th of July Edition

Heat and Humidity – that was the dominant theme of the week and then suddenly Mother Nature decided to flip the switch! We were under an extreme heat emergency at the start of the week and then finished the week in the rainy 60s. I’ve given up trying to figure out what the weather will serve up next. Nonetheless, the workouts happened…here’s a quick look at how things played out.

Weekly Run Down – Week 26

Monday — Kicked off the week with a lower-body strength day. I did a couple of Glutes & Legs Peloton classes, with a core class in between. So many variations on squats and lunges – thankfully my hip had no complaints!

Tuesday – 20 mins stretching otherwise a rest day. Didn’t sleep well, woke up with a headache  – toss in ridiculous heat and humidity (hello feels like 109!) and I waved the white flag on this day.

Wednesday – An early morning 5K through town to close out June. I still have no idea what my mileage was for June.

Thursday — 25 min Ride, 20 min Upper Body and 10 min Core.

Friday — 3.5 miles. The rain and cooler temps rolled in, but a short workday gave me the chance to wait out some of the heavier rain. Everything about this run felt so good and I was rewarded with negative splits!

Negative splits = Happy runner

Saturday — 20 min Core and 20 min Glutes & Legs. The day was a complete washout so I took advantage of it to deep clean the house – it was a workout after my workout!

Sunday — 5 miles. I was definitely feeling yesterday’s strength sesh when I headed out this morning so this run was slow and easy. I had the roads to myself and, best of all, the rain held off!

And, now as I sit here sipping my coffee, the sun has actually made an appearance! Looking forward to cooking out and enjoying the day with the family.

Wishing everyone a happy and safe 4th of July!

  1. I love your green I run top!

What crazy weather you had this week; glad you were still able to keep up your regular level of fitness!

  2. A nice solid week for you. Hope you all have a great day together today

  3. The weather really did change drastically this week! It was so nice when it cooled of a bit. Great week of workouts!

  4. It’s steamy again today–but we’re home now from the lake. Someone (not me) wanted to come home…

Great week of workouts. Enjoy your day with the family! Don’t you go on vacation soon?

  5. We had the same weather – heat advisory and then rain rain rain humidity and cooldown.

    Love that green top.

Hope you had a nice day today.

  6. I’ll bet your hip liked those squats and lunges- you’re keeping everything strong!
I’m shuddering at your “feels like” 109- we have a “feels like” of 102 today and we refuse to go outside. I hope you have some nice weather for your cookout!

    • Honestly, the situation with my hip’s been pretty confusing lately – it doesn’t squawk at the hard stuff, but sometimes complains after sitting too long. I figure I’ll just keep babying it and hope for the best.

  7. Our weather was crazy too. I think we get similar weather a day ahead of you. It’s heating up again ….

    That green top is fantastic!

Happy Fourth! I hope you can enjoy time in your lovely yard.

    • I think we’ve got potential thunderstorms forecasted for every day this week…sigh. At least the garden will be happy 🙂

Hope you had a great 4th!

  8. Wow, that heat advisory approaching 110! YIKES! I have not even looked ahead to this new week’s weather…I’m assuming more of the same heat and humidity. We’re actually about due for some more rain…all the recent heat has dried out the crops (again).

  9. Love that green on you! This weather was so weird. We had the same on Saturday but it didn’t end up a complete washout on either Friday or Saturday, which was good for mischief/bad for a day of planned cleaning.
Glad your hip survived the lunges

    • Thanks Cari – I recently re-discovered this shirt in the back of my closet. I had forgotten how comfortable the cut is!

I’ve given up trying to figure this weather out and it looks like we’re in for more weird weather this week.

  10. Hooray for negative splits! I’ve just been tired lately so basically runs have been slow & slower. 🙂

Deep clean? What’s that? My house really needs it but . . . I need my sleep more!

Sounds like the week ended on a high night. Those cooler temps help, right?

    • Those cooler temps definitely help! Those negative splits were a nice surprise – generally, my runs have been a turtle pace lately thanks to the heat & humidity. And with the upcoming forecast, it looks like we’ll be returning to our regularly scheduled programming shortly.

  11. good week despite the weather! man you guys are really getting the heat and humidity!! we’re back to grey and rain again… whomp whomp.

I do love that green top on you by the way. And congrats on your negative splits!

    • Thanks Renée 🙂

It seems like the rain has been non-stop for you! I have a feeling that it’s just going to be one of those very swampy summers here. I promised I wasn’t going to complain about the weather this summer…but…

  12. I enjoyed the cooler temps this weekend but just wish it didn’t rain most of the day on Saturday. We’re back to the heat tomorrow (100 degrees) and I’m already dreading it – ugh!

Awesome job on your negative split run and I hope you had a great long weekend.

    • Thanks Kim – fun weekend despite the rain. We’re heading back to close to 100 here too so I’ll be hiding in front of the AC for the next couple of days LOL

  13. Whoo hoo negative splits! That’s always a great feeling!

I hope you had a fabulous holiday as well. It was a nice day here, and I’m glad the rain gave us enough of a break to be able to celebrate.

  14. Good work, we have weird weather here, too, Sunday it literally alternated bright sun and freezing pouring rain and we’ve had rain rain rain since …
