Week 21 – Chillin’ on a Staycation

This week was all about enjoying some much-needed downtime from work! This time off gave me a chance to finish my garden beds, take care of some projects, enjoy time with family and friends, and get my second vaccine. Of course, there was also time for working out – here’s a quick peek at how the week played out.

Weekly Run Down — Week 21

Monday — 30 min Bike Bootcamp, 15 min Ride, 10 min Core & stretching. This was my first bike Bootcamp, so of course, I took it with Tunde. She did not fail to kick my arse – it was a great mix of intervals on the bike and lower body strength. I wanted a little more cardio so I tacked on a short 15 min ride.

Tuesday — 2.5-mile run, 10 min Core, & stretching. While I have been riding and walking, this was my first run in a week. My ego was definitely pushing for more, but the body said listen to the IT band and keep it short.

Wednesday — 2nd vaccine! Stretching and rest.

Thursday — Vaccine hangover in full effect! After a rough night of sleep, I woke up with that “too much cold medicine” feeling. The sluggishness stuck with me for most of the day. I managed to rally to meet a friend for lunch, but I was quickly home and back on the couch after that outing.

Friday — 3.75-mile run, 10 min Core, & stretching. Up and out early and feeling like myself again! I also spent a couple of hours in the garden, finishing all of my plantings, pruning, and weeding.

Saturday — 30 min Ride, 15 min Upper Body, & 10 min Core.

Sunday —  5-mile run & stretch. It’s been raining fairly consistently since Friday night. The hourly forecast showed a break early this morning so I rushed to get out and take advantage of it. Well, the forecast was wrong – within the first mile the rain was falling and the wind was pretty steady. Raw and soggy, but done!

It’s supposed to rain all day today again, so once I warm up I’m looking forward to a lazy day of movies and board games with the family.

How was your week? Are you enjoying the long weekend?

  1. Yay for getting the vaccine! The weather was just awful this weekend. We were inside all day yesterday. Hoping to get outside tomorrow if the sun finally makes an appearance!

  2. How nice to be at home all week and just work on projects?! I was on a roll earlier this year with home improvement stuff, but now I’m stuck. It doesn’t help that our street is completely torn up for sewer replacement.

Hopefully, tomorrow will be a nicer day!

  3. Hooray for the 2nd dose of the vaccine and I’m glad that your hangover didn’t last too long.

That bike bootcamp with Tunde was really good. I love how she rides so effortlessly on 50 resistance lol.

  4. A five-mile run in the rain and then relaxing for the rest of the day with movies and board games sounds like heaven! Glad you’re enjoying your staycation! I hope your IT band is feeling better.

  5. I’m sorry the radar lied to you this morning. I hate when that happens! We managed to walk Bandit before the steady, cold rain began today.

Congrats on the second vacinne. Glad the hangover didn’t last too long.

    Hooray for a staycation!

  6. So happy to hear that you got the vaccine.

I really need a staycation but I never take off unless I have something to do or some place to go.

This weekend the weather could not be worse. The forecast hinted t hat it wouldn’t pour today until noon…. I started to rain after 2 miles…like 10 am…grrrrr

    • The thing I love most about a staycation is the flexibility to get things done (or to do nothing but sit on the deck and read!) without any restrictions on my time.

The weather this weekend was terrible – I’m glad most of my week off was picture perfect!

  7. Glad you were able to get some downtime this week. Sounds like the vaccine wasn’t too bad. A huge step towards normalcy! Have a great week ahead

  8. I channeled my “gardening Michelle mode” yesterday and finally got all my hanging baskets and front porch planters in order. Tomorrow, my “weed-pulling Michelle mode” will have to guide me, because I have LOTS on deck. Glad you had a nice week away from work…bummer the vax hangover didn’t play nice for you either.

    • Ha! I hope all that channeling helped 😉 I do feel like the weeding is a never-ending thing though.

It was such a good week – I don’t know how I’ll cope with working on Tuesday LOL.

  9. A break from work sounds divine! I’ll live vicariously through you on that front. I only had one non-work day over the holiday weekend and we spent it at the inlaws’ house so I feel like I didn’t get to rest. Ugh. Nice job on all the gardening!

  10. Hooray for the second dose and glad the side effects weren’t too long lasting! It sounds like a lovely week other than the one rough day. I love a staycation!

  11. Yay on the second vaccine! Glad the effects didn’t last too long. You did so much more than me during your staycation. 🙂

  12. We had a quiet long weekend as I am still recovering. I feel mostly fine, but my mouth won’t open enough to get anything in me to eat. RAGE!

I am glad your vaccine hangover seemed short lived.

    • It’s so frustrating that you are still having trouble eating 🙁

I definitely got lucky that my vaccine side effects were pretty minimal compared to some.

  13. glad you were able to have some down time. and definitely good that you listened to the reasoning part of the brain rather than the ego with running! last thing we need is more of us longer-term injured!!

also good that you got your 2nd dose! I had J&J so only one shot – and I had no side effects but a massive headache during the night and next morning. So weird of these things have varying effects on people!

  14. Glad to hear you are back to feeling good after the 2nd dose! Also that you had time for your gardening and more relaxing with your family and friends. Staycations and vacations are so needed sometimes! So beneficial!
