Sharing Some February Runfessions

Happy Friday!

A big thank you to everyone who’s linked up or stopped by to support the new Fit Five Friday link-up! My co-hosts Darlene, ReneeJenn, Zenaida and I really appreciate the support!

And, speaking of link-ups, it’s the last Friday of the month, so I’m linking up with Marcia to share some Runfessions…let’s get started, shall we?

February Runfessions

I runfess that I am winter-weary. While I love cold weather running, all of the snow and ice this month have made outdoor running really challenging. I’ve done my best to take it all in stride, but I’m really ready to move on.

February wraps up this weekend and with it, the enCore28 daily core challenge. After my daily yoga challenge in January, and now this core challenge, the obvious question is what’s next? I runfess that after two months of daily challenges, I’m kinda looking forward to having no daily “challenge” on the plan for March.

I runfess that I have finally put an in-person race on my 2021 calendar –  the Narragansett Summer Running Festival! This is a great local race and I’m psyched that they’re making a go of it this year. I also runfess that what sealed the deal for me was the RD’s promise to offer a full refund and to not go virtual if COVID restrictions prevent a live event from taking place. It’s not until July and more and more things are opening up here in MA, so I’m hopeful!

Lastly, I have been jonesing to buy a new pair of run shoes. I runfess this is not about need, my running mileage has been on the low end and I have a couple of pairs in rotation…and still I stalk the websites.

Any runfessions to share? Have you registered for or run any in-person races yet? How many pairs of running shoes are too many?

Here are the guidelines:

  1. I still haven’t heard about any in person races happening around here. Maybe this summer we will start to see some? Theres one in June that is scheduled to be in person but I can’t find any info about covid protocols so I’m not signing up at this point. (Im sure they will have them, I’d just like to know what they are). Its nice to have the option to get a full refund and not just have to run virtual or defer your entry!

    • Aside from this race, I have just seen one other local race group promote their races which start in June. All the protocols have been announced, but they’re saying they’ll go virtual if necessary. I really appreciate having the option of a full refund.

  2. I need need running shoes, too! I just need to get my buttocks to a store and do some sampling (I really want to try some shoes on, since my foot is recovered and I know my favorite models have probably been tweaked in the past year). I’m also winter weary…hoping the worst is in the rear window.

    • I’ve been stalking websites, but really need to venture into a store. I had thought about just ordering the Adrenalines again, but like you, I’m concerned they’ve tweaked the model again.

  3. Funny you should mention shoes…I just went to Brooks to check out the colors of the Adrenalines! I didn’t buy any yet. I’m supposed to get a pair of Mizunos to test, so I’m waiting on that.

  4. That’s very promising they plan on having the race in July. ZOOMA Cape Cod is looking like a go in September but the city has stopped just short of giving the official OK. I think I’m ready for new shoes. Heck I’m always ready for new shoes. Thanks for linking!

    • I was wondering about ZOOMA’s Cape race. I’m managing a charity team a race held in the same town. The race is usually held in August, but I heard the RD just put a permit in for a back-up date in November. I’m hoping Zooma happens – I’d love to run it this year!

  5. Darlene S. Cardillo says

Definitely sick of snow and gray skies. That’s why I had to go south.

Those challenges seem intimidating. Good for you in doing so many.

I have a friend in RI. That race is tempting. And yes too many take your money and then go virtual. I’m so over virtual.

  6. Yes!!! on the running shoes. I think you need a new pair. I need a new pair too. Let’s give each other permission! 🙂 I hope you get to run your race this summer. There are some races happening here in PA, but they are very small. There’s a 250 person maximum in place and that includes volunteers, timers, the RD, etc. And everyone wears masks before, after, and sometimes during the race.

  7. I hope we don’t have to wait until April for nice weather! We actually got some spring fever days this week.

Matty’s got a new strength (not just core) schedule for March, but I need a break from him!

    Yay on IRL racing!

  8. I enjoyed the encore 28 challenge and will probably repeat it for March. I will take on his new strength challenge but mix the days up to fit my schedule. He is my go to for strength at them moment. No in person races yet here hopefully in May

    • I had only taken one or two of Matty’s strength classes before the encore challenge. I like his approach and will definitely plan to check out some of his other strength classes in the future.

  9. Obviously I haven’t been running much either, but I have been looking at shoes too. Although I do like to change them out every 6 months or so.

Good luck on the in person race! That’s awesome that the RD has made those promises.

Aren’t we all weary of Winter up here? I try to embrace it, but eventually I get so tired of being cold!

    • Yep same here – I do my best to embrace winter but like you said I’m just so tired of being cold at this point! Hopefully, spring is just around the corner!

  10. My in-person races so far have all been postponed. Rock ‘n’ Roll San Diego just sent out word it will be held on October 24, which works for me. I hope my other race doesn’t reschedule for the same day!

  11. Winter is really my least favorite season – at some point I’m just done. And you guys have had it so rough!! I don’t blame you for being winter weary!

I am fairly sure I am doing no live races this year.We are so behind on vaccinations and people continue acting like asshats so I fear it will be another long year. We have a population of 17+ million and vaccinations are currently just over 1 Mln… so yeah.

Runners ALWAYS need new shoes. Don’t let anyone convince you otherwise!!

    • The vaccination process is finally picking up steam in my state so I’m keeping my fingers crossed. OF course, at the end of the day, it all depends on whether the numbers keep trending in the right direction.

  12. I love winter running but the snow/ice here was a challenge. We had it worse than usual this year. I’m lucky that our path (right outside my house) has been cleared quickly most days. I’m LOVING 30s and sunny now.

  13. I’m also totally over Winter at this point. Well I’m more over the snow I guess – i just need it to stop, lol.

That’s so great that the RD of the race is offering refunds. That would definitely entice me to sign up as well.

  14. Hs, I like the 5 stages of winter- that really sums it up.
I say, get the new shoes! Why not? You’ve been working hard and you deserve it! It’ll be something to cheer you up while you’re waiting for April. : )

  15. Oooh! I am always up for new running shoes. I think I have three or four pair in rotation right now.

I have run a few in-person events and am looking to increase on that. It has made a huge difference.

    • I’m always up for new shoes too 😉 I usually like to keep 3 pairs in rotation, but only have two at the moment so there’s definitely room for more, right?!

  16. Well, you know how I feel about new shoes. Go for it! Why not? And about that race, the RD’s promise would have convinced me too to sign up.

  17. Yay for an in person race! I’m just waiting for the day that I see a local one to sign up for!
    Have a great weekend!

  18. I remember those long MA winters all too well. I hope you get to run that race, a sign that things are normalizing I hope.
One can never have too many shoes…running or otherwise. 😊

  19. Because I enjoy the first couple of snows, I would add to “The Five Stages of Winter” meme: anticipation, excitement, enjoyment, so over it, and then the ones listed. LOL

Yay for signing up for a live race! I have a 5K scheduled for April 17th.

  20. I went a little virtual bonkers of late, but no in person yet as the one I signed up for was cancelled (snow & ice, not COVID) and it turned me off again

  21. Yay to a live race! I hope it all works out, it does sound like fun! I hear you on the monthly challenges. I challenged myself to daily yoga in January and February and now I’m at the point that I really don’t want that kind of pressure anymore, lol!
