May Coffee with a side of April Runfessions

Happy Friday!

This week went by in a blink but with a fun weekend to look forward to, I’m not complaining! So how about we get this Friday started with a little catch up over coffee.

I’m joining Coco and Deborah for the Ultimate Coffee Date. And, for an added bonus, Marcia’s opened the Runfessional and I’ve got a few things to share.

If we were having coffee, I’d tell you that I’ve really been looking forward to this weekend – we’re going to see Alvin Ailey on Saturday and the Avengers Endgame on Sunday!

If we were having coffee, I’d tell you that around here we can see the finish line of another school year, as both of my boys will finish classes by the end of the month. I runfess that as I look the calendar filled to the brim with all of the end-of-school-year events, in addition to the lacrosse games, the boys’ exam schedules…and oh yeah I’ve got a half marathon coming up, I seriously wonder how it’s all going to get done. But that’s typical May Madness around here and somehow we always find a way to make it happen.

If we were having coffee, I’d tell you that I’m turning into a bit of a paranoid runner. I mentioned in my last weekly run down that I seem to be finding my running legs. In fact, April was a great month of pain-free running which I’m celebrating but I runfess, given my recent history, part of me is holding my breath waiting to see if the other shoe will drop.

If we were having coffee, I would tell you that after fully indulging during our vacation that I quietly returned to counting my macros during April. While I dropped a few pounds and, better still, a couple of inches off my waist, I runfess that I find the whole process of tracking just too annoying to continue.

So what would you tell me over coffee? Any runfessions to share?

  1. OMG…fitness *itch LOL I hear ya on the “waiting for the other shoe to drop” thing…that’s why I decided to pull back and NOT do any races for awhile. I know the momentum is not gonna last forever, and I’d prefer to be the one choosing when it happens. Good luck with all your May busy-ness 😉

    • Thanks Kim – And I so get your decision to pull back a little. Hopefully when you dive into racing again that momentum will come right back 🙂

  2. You have such a fun weekend planned – enjoy!

Wow, you’ve got a busy May planned! I know that you’ll get it all done though 🙂

I’m not sure if I could count macros for an extended period of time. I know that all that logging has to get cumbersome at some point.

    • Hopefully, by the time I see you Memorial Day Weekend, I still have my sanity! LOL!

And the counting just gets old really fast! Props to people who can stick with it.

  3. Ah, May mayhem! It’s rough in the moment but will be fun to look back on. 😉
I hope the other shoe doesn’t drop before your Half.

    Thanks for joining us!

  4. May is always super busy in the high school years for sure. I also feel better about my running but always wonder what the next injury will be. We runners are an interesting bunch!

  5. whoah sounds like a LOT on your plate coming up!!!

why didn’t I think of my fitness bitch???? because YES to all of that. I am so. very. sick. of all the counting. i gained 3 kilos already just from NOT running. it’s not like I’m eating all the things or throwing caution to the wind. i’m not. I was full on low-carbing this week and while the scale finally moved downward, so did my spirit knowing that this is really my life if I want to keep my body at some sort of normal running fitness. I don’t need to be thin! I just hate it that I’m affected but just a few kilos! Grrr.

    • Yep – everything you said right there – that’s the crux of it. I’m not looking to be skinny but my body seems to be in a perpetual struggle with the same handful of pounds. I feel better with them off, and feel like I move better, run better…but all of the counting to help get there is oh so tedious!

  6. I could not agree more about the tracking thing. I can do it for awhile but inevitably I drop off. It just basically sucks. Good luck getting through this last crazy month of end-of-school MAYhem!

    • I always thought your description of “MAYhem” was spot-on. If I get through the end of the month with my sanity somewhat intact it’s a huge win 🙂

  7. I don’t understand the whole macros thing and personally, I don’t care. I just eat what I want and when I can’t button my pants, I cut back…

Maybe we should be doing a wine date instead of a coffee date!

  8. I remember those crazy May days when my kids were younger. My youngest is graduating from college in just a few short hours! The years sure did fly by in the blink of an eye! I don’t necessarily track my intake but I do have to be careful as those pounds tend to quickly pile on if I’m not careful.

  9. i hope you enjoy Alvin Ailey – I saw them years ago and they were amazing!

I’m glad you’ve been pain-free and I will definitely send some positive vibes your way!

I’ve tried MFP a few times and I just can’t bear to keep up with it, all the tracking just becomes so cumbersome!

    • Alvin Ailey was fantastic! I hadn’t seen them in a few years – always an amazing performance!

I appreciate those pain-free vibes – I’ll talk all you can spare 🙂

  10. I finally watched Endgame earlier this week! :] It was awesome!

I intermittently use MFP and when I was counting my macros, I did get really awesome results, but I was too lazy to continue with it, haha. I might get back into it sometime though!
